How Do You Want Your Sine Wave to Look?

The secret of the Delta Conversion On-line technology lies in the ability of its two inverters towork together as a team. The main inverter keeps synchronized with the utility's power andprecisely controls the output voltage to the customer's infrastructure. The delta inverter is acurrent controller that processes only the power difference (the delta) between an unregulat-ed input voltage and a regulated output voltage. This is accomplished by using a power feed-back loop.

Why is 48V DC used in the telecom industry?

In contrast to the IT industry where loads predominantlyrun on AC and where loss of input power is handled byinstalling AC UPSs (Figure 1), the telecommunicationsindustry evolved an infrastructure using a 48V DC bus(Figure 2) and lead acid batteries to power up the tele-phones irrespective of the AC utility’s condition.

Modern DC systems used by the telecommunicationsindustry, are powered from the AC utility and convert-ed to 48V DC using a switched mode power supply,commonly referred to as a ‘rectifier’.

APC employs a number of Telecom grade rectifiers intheir power plant, specifically designed to convert ACutility inputs to a stable, regulated 48V dc with capaci-ties of 1.75A through to 50A.The latest rectifier in thisrange is the MRF17, whichprovides 25A per moduleand is designed for paralleloperation, and hence allow-ing systems up to 600A to beconfigured.

ing modules for easy system expansion and

ability, power modules can be added in

steps of 200kW. A unique slide-in module
