Resource Conservation Programme
Solving the Energy Puzzle
Over the last few years, you have been part of theTata Power Club Enerji movement and have workedtowards saving energy by saving electricity.
Thanks to your efforts, Tata Power Club Enerji hassaved more than 3.4 million units of energy andsensitised more than 2 million people nationwide.
The 3.4 million units of energy saved is equivalent to theamount of energy used to light up 1,496 houses for a yearand save 3,300 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
But saving electricity is just one piece of the Energy Puzzle
So, what are the other pieces of this puzzle?
Save Energy
Save Water
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
Plant Trees
Save Fuel
Save Power
Save Energy
Save Water
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.
Plant Trees
Save Fuel
Save Power
Over the next year, Tata Power Club Enerji is going to work with you to solve the Energy Puzzle…one piece at a time!
Every piece of the Energy Puzzle i.e.
• Save Power
• Save Fuel
• Save Water
• Reduce. Reuse. Recycle
• Plant Trees
has a direct impact on the amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere!
CO2 is greenhouse gas that acts as a blanket surrounding the Earth.
This blanket prevents the Sun’s heat from escaping into space, keeping the Earth warm.
But when we release more greenhouse gases into our atmosphere, the Earth gets even hotter, leading to
Global Warming
The Greenhouse Effect
How does Global Warming affect us?
All these are signs of Climate Change!
To prevent Climate Change and reduce Global Warming…We need to reduce the amount of CO2
released into the atmosphere
Unseasonal rains have ruined mango crop
Our cities are becoming hotter
Polar ice caps are melting
Floods and storms have become more common
You already know how to save electricity…
Can you tell us how?
To measure electricity use we can use the Electricity Bill
If you use 10 electric bulbs of 60 watts each and they are used for 8 hours everyday.
Then your daily energy consumption for electric bulbs =
10 x 60 watts x 8 hours = 4800 watt-hours
Your monthly energy consumption for electric bulbs =
4800 watt-hours x 30 days = 144000 watt-hours = 144 kilowatt-hours
OR 144 units.
1 Unit : 1 kilowatt-hour

So this year we will focus on Saving Fuel
while continuing our efforts to Save Electricity
Why fuel?
Did you know: 80% of the observed increase in atmospheric CO2
results from the burning of fossil fuels.
Fuel is any material that stores energy that we can extract to perform mechanical work
Fossil Fuels include coal, fuel oils like petrol and diesel and natural gas, which are extracted from the Earth
We use fuel primarily for
Transportation and Cooking
To measure fuel use we can use the Carbon Calculator

Assessment
16 to 20 points: Your high carbon footprint is stressing the planet out! You need to start saving energy by cutting down your electricity and fuel consumption.
11 to 15 points: You are energy-conscious but can still do more to reduce your carbon footprint.
5 to 10 points: You have a low carbon footprint and are a friend of the planet. Make sure to spread the message of energy-saving!
An Energy Champion will be one who
- Pledges to save fuel and power i.e. who practices energy conservation at home and at school
- Spreads the message of energy conservation among friends, neighbourhood and relatives
- Records and shares the effective practices adopted and results achieved within the immediate circle
- Brings down the power and fuel usage in their homesand demonstrates the same by tracking and recording electricity bills and the carbon calculator
- Introduces www.tatapowerenergyclub.com website at every point of contact
- Students who show the highest savings will be recognised as Energy Champions and felicitated by Club Enerji with certificates and badges.
- Their pictures and projects will be put up on www.clubenerji.com
- Their efforts and testimonials will be featured in RobinAge and other publications
- Unique initiatives will be covered in the Energy X-Change
You and your friends can form mini Tata Power Energy Clubs in your schoolsand societies too! Members can undertake any of these projects and come upwith other ideas as well
o Organise, drawing, theatre and other competitions around the themeof Energy Conservation
o Organise rallies and special events and rallies on the following dayso Earth Day – April 22
o World Environment Day – June 5
o World Car Free Day – September 22
o Make posters and conduct a ‘Switch Off’ rally in your neighbourhood
o Organise a ‘Car Pool Registration Day’ to encourage carpooling in yourschool or locality
o Conduct a campaign to increase awareness about public transport, especially commonly used bus and train routes in your area
The efforts of all the mini TPECs will be featured on the Tata Power EnergyClub website. The Best Mini TPEC of the Year will be felicitated andrewarded at the end of the year.
Mini TPECs will have an Energy Council comprising of:
- Energy Mentor who will be the teacher in-charge
- Energy General who will be the student in-charge
- Energy Monitors will be the top five active members
Names of these Energy Council representatives from the school, including the total number of club members, needs to be submitted to Tata Power at [email protected]
I,
a proud member of the Tata Power Energy Club,
pledge today to tirelessly strive
in spreading the message of energy conservation
in my home, college and neighborhood,
not only by showing and educating everyone I know
on how to save precious energy
but by demonstrating energy conservation at work
by putting it into place in my daily life.
I promise to abide by the rules
and meet every expectation set by the Club.
I will never cease to champion the cause
and in doing so, we will save this valuable resource,
