PRINCIPAL’S NEWS
I hope you all enjoyed your long weekend! It was lovely to see the sun shining all
weekend, great for some outside adventures.
We have well and truly now settled into our school routine and there has been
some wonderful learning and fun happening in all classrooms. I have had the
pleasure of having K/1 coming to the office to share their outstanding writing
with me. What a pleasure it is for me to share their learning and see how proud
they are of their achievements.
I am looking forward to seeing more wonderful work from the superstars at
Somersby PS!
Band News
Band will not be resuming this term. We will be re-assessing the resumption of
band next term, Term 3. If you have any questions, please contact the office. In

Uniforms remain available for purchase online. Payments can be made via the

to students at school to bring home. Skorts have been ordered and we are
expecting school polo shirts to also be available soon for those who are waiting
on them. We will let you know as soon as these items arrive.
“Fluoro and Fit” Mufti Tennis Day
Last term we applied for a grant from the Australian Sports Commission to run our annual Term 2 tennis program. We have just been advised that our application was successful however, due to the COVID-19 restrictions the amount of our grant and the method of delivery will be modified.
On Friday 3 July, 2020 we will be running a “Fluoro and Fit” Tennis Day, which will also be a Year 6 fundraiser. Students will participate in tennis round robin games, tennis skills and fun fitness activities. The day will be mufti and students are encouraged to come to school in something fluoro or something to do with fitness, or both!
As we will be active on the day, suitable clothing and footwear should be worn. A gold coin donation would be appreciated on the day to assist Year 6 with their fundraising efforts.

Charcoal Art
In my previous years of school. I was taught charcoal
art. During an afternoon, I was able to teach 5/6
different techniques of Charcoal like the swivel, the roll,
dotting, smudge and then I taught the class how to
combine all of the techniques together to make a
picture. It was so much fun and by the looks of it I think
5/6 had a great time too!
