2016-2017 Officer Elections Both clubs will be electing officers for the new 4-H year during the APRIL Meetings.
This is a great way to learn leadership skills. If you’re interested in running for office,
you will need to prepare a quick speech on why you would be perfect for the job!
Leadership Lab
Leadership Lab is held annually in June and 4-H members from ages 13-18 may
attend. This event provides a variety of leadership, recreation, and project
enhancement workshops that participants are challenged to take back to their own
county and implement. Entries will be due in May! CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION

The last 4 years have been so much fun.
I’ve made some great friends and memo-
ries with wonderful kids and families. I
will really miss that. I can’t say Thank
You enough to everyone for your support.
Glen Rose is an amazing town, full of
some of the very best people. Thank you
for letting me be part of it. I’ll be around
until April 29th. If you need anything,
don’t hesitate to give me a call! I hope to
still see you around at 4-H events in the
future.
Thanks again,
Brianne
Johnson County’s gain, is our loss.
Brianne will be transferring to the
Johnson County Extension Office in
May. As many of you know, she has
been splitting her time servicing both
Somervell and Hood Counties. She
has been a true asset to our communi-
ty, and we will miss her greatly.
Please stop by to see her before she
leaves. She is usually in the Som-
ervell County Office on Tuesdays and
Wednesdays.

Extra-Curricular Activities & 4-H Eligibility
As an educational agency, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Ser-
vice supports the Texas Education code and academic responsibil-
ity of student 4-H members. The Extension sponsored 4-H youth
programs must comply with provisions of the Texas Educational
Code in order for the 4-H program to maintain status of an extra-
curricular organization.
When 4-H members participate in competitive events or when a
member is participating in any 4- H event that will require him/her
to be absent from school, the Extension Agent must submit a
written request to the appropriate school official prior to the activi-
ty. The school will determine if the students are eligible for partici-
pation and notify the agent. If parents have any questions they
should contact the school administration.

Location: T Bar M Resort & Conference Center, New Braunfels, Texas
Includes a trip to Schlitterbahn!
Registration on 4-H Connect: May 2016 (Exact dates TBD)
Registration Fee: TBD
Description: 4-H members who have completed at least the 8th grade at the time of lab may participate. The registration fee covers
2 nights of lodging, all meals, program activities, insurance, curriculum, and T-shirts. The attire is school appropriate
(casual). Each evening there is a dance and many kids want to dress up. However, there are kids who wear summer
clothes and each night is a theme dance so costumes are permitted.
Objective: To prepare teen leaders from the 21 counties in District 8 for leadership roles. These roles might be at the county level,
or county committees, or their clubs. The hope is that participants will take information back from Lab and share it with
members back in their counties. Lab is set up to be enjoyable and fun, but there is work too. Many workshops are set up
that will require concentration and serious participation. Speeches are delivered for officer elections. We work and we
play. Play time is set up with activities that build team work skills and camaraderie in the district.
Forms Needed: Upon submission of registration, please download the “Release Forms” packet with the following forms: Medical Au-
thorization and Health Statement forms. Don’t forget that a copy of your insurance card needs to be attached to your
release forms packet. All forms must be completed with the appropriate signatures. Reminder this year! Release forms
will need to be completed, signed, scanned, and uploaded to 4-H Connect during the registration process.

These are exciting times for the Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador program. The program has
been developing agricultural leaders and advocates for 8 years now. New for 2016, we are ex-
cited to include West Texas A&M University in partnership with Texas Tech University to con-
duct the Panhandle 4-H Livestock Ambassador Short Course. Ambassador candidates will split
time between the two universities to gain a better understanding of agriculture in the Texas Pan-
handle. Furthermore, in 2016 we will embark on an international agricultural experience to
South America. We plan to take 25 high performing Equine/Livestock Ambassadors to Uruguay
and Argentina.
