Nestled in the picturesque Finger Lakes region of New York State, Sonnenberg Gardens & Mansion State Historic Park offers one of the few remaining late-19th century Victorian estates. Sonnenberg Gardens features a Queen Anne-style mansion and nine beautiful historic gardens of the world created by Mary Clark Thompson as a living tribute to her late husband Frederick Ferris Thompson in the early 20th century.

This 50-acre estate is distinctive for the extraordinary collections of period architecture, statuary, floral displays, fountains, and conservatory greenhouse complex. Also returning this season is our Community Vegetable Gardens and our very popular children’s historical adventure trail.

Sonnenberg also has a unique wine cellar experience featuring the wines of 40 Finger Lakes wineries as well as many interesting quality gift items in our Bay House gift shop.

The lake cruise is via an authentic paddle wheel boat with lunch cruise or excursion only options available. $45/person lunch cruise and $30/person excursion only.

Fall into Autumn in the Finger Lakes, September 15 - October 31See the brilliant fall colors of 140 varieties of deciduous trees throughout the Thompsons’ estate and gardens. Special reduced rate of $9/person.

Wine Tasting, May 1 - October 31A tasting of five regional wines is available in Sonnenberg’s Finger Lakes Wine Center for all group tours for an additional $6/person.

Sonnenberg Gardens

Perched atop a sun-bathed hill in Canandaigua for more than 100 years is the estate known as “Sonnenberg.” Sonnenberg, thought by many to be the premier tourist destination in the region, is a 50-acre estate featuring a 40-room Victorian mansion, nine elegantly restored gardens, and a greenhouse complex.

Sonnenberg began as a summer home for philanthropists Frederick Ferris Thompson and his wife, Mary Clark Thompson. In 1973 the “Sonnenberg Gardens” non-profit organization obtained the title to part of the original estate and opened Sonnenberg’s gates to the public.

In 2005 this historic gem became a New York State Historic Park and while Sonnenberg operates in cooperation with the State of New York, it is supported entirely by the activities of its non-profit organization.

Today visitors can tour the mansion, gardens, and one of the few remaining Lord & Burnham greenhouses of its age in the entire US. Besides being a

popular tourist and wedding site, Sonnenberg is true to its educational mission and features a wide range of public, historical, and horticultural-based programs and events.

All admission and group tour fees go directly to the support and operation of Sonnenberg Gardens.

We are only a short drive from three major upstate New York cities which are accessible by bus, train, and air travel. From Sonnenberg:

• Rochester is 40 minutes northwest

• Syracuse is 80 minutes east

• Buffalo is 1 hour and 45 minutes to the west
