What is trigonometry?
It is a branch of mathematics that studies triangles and the relationships between there sides and the angle between
these sides.
In this topic we shall make use of
trigonometry ratios to find the height of a
tree, a tower, a water tank, a width of river, distance of ship from
lighthouse etc.
Line of sight
We observe generally that children generally look up to
see an airplane when it passes overhead. This line joining their eye to plane,
while looking up is called line of sight.
Angle of elevation
The angle which the line of sight makes with a horizontal line drawn away from their
eyes is called angle of elevation of airplane from
them.
Angle of depression
If pilot of the airplane looks downward at any object on the ground then the angle between his line of sight and
horizontal lines drawn away from his eyes is called angle of depression.
