Our History.In 1999, two private companies, both born as spin-offs of Universities in the Stuttgart area, decide to merge in order to create a leading-edge structure to research natural solutions, for both people and plants: SOURCON, from the Tübingen University, has its focus on the research for antibiotics for human health; PADENA, born in the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim, leads its research towards the discovery of new means for the organic control of plant pathogens.

These two companies shared the heart of their researches: microorganisms.

At the end of the 20th Century, Sourcon Padena starts to concentrate totally its efforts upon the defense and bio-stimulation of the plants, isolating, in a research targeted to discover a biological mean of control for Phytium ultimum, the bacterial strain Pseudomonas sp. DSMZ 13134, a biological solution against soil-borne diseases.

In 2012, Pseudomonas sp. DSMZ 13134 has been authorized as fungicide active ingredient after the inclusion in Annex I of the 91/414 EC Regulation. It was the second Pseudomonas authorized as bio-pesticide in EU, but the first one to be applied on vegetables.

In 2014 Sourcon-Padena has become part of an Italian group entirely focused on the agribusiness industry, integrating the R&D experience with commercial and industrial expertise.

Secondary to the acquisition, the name changed into SP Sourcon Padena.

Our philosophy is entirely based on Nature. Nature is for us the Source where we start our researching program; Nature is our Mean, because Sourcon Padena develops only products that exists naturally in the environment around us; and Nature is our Goal, as the environment and plants’ care is what we work for every day.

Sourcon Padena works only with non-GMO strains of microorgnisms, isolated from Nature, bringing on the market natural bio-pesticides and bio-stimulant products that sustain the growth of organic as well as conventional farmers, in Integrated Pest Management strategies, leaving no residues on the crops, therefore assuring healthier products to the customers.

All the products of Sourcon Padena are allowed for organic production by either FiBL or InfoXgen.

R&D.The Sourcon Padena intent is to create an ever-sustainable agriculture thanks to a unified activity of research, development and production. SP cooperates with different research institutes, either private or public, such as science-leading universities, in the name of new, forceful and completely natural solutions for farmers, in total regard of Nature.

The R&D activities take place in the college town of Tübingen (Germany), in the SP Laboratories and Headquarters, where the fundamental biological and efficacy screening of the microorganisms are carried out. In this location, small-scale productions and new formulas are developed that later on would be tested on an industrial scale in our production plant.

SP Sourcon Padena through the years has created a wide and efficient partnerships’ network, both European and International, overseeing the efficacy trials of their products.

Bringing to the market.From the R&D, the microorganisms are brought to production industrial scale using three liquid state fermenters, with a maximum working capacity of 1.000 L.

Once the microorganisms are ready, Sourcon Padena, supported by STI Solfotecnica Italiana SpA, European leading toll formulator, belonging to the same Group, formulates and packs its finished products in Cotignola (Italy), ready to be shipped to its customers all around the World.

The powder formulation plant is totally devoted to the formulation of microorganisms-based products, in a dedicated area, in order to avoid cross contamination with chemical pesticides.

As well as the formulation plant, even the packing line, that can range from 10 g up to 20 kg bags, is dedicated to the microorganisms, in order to have a fully organic product.

Proradix®

Proradix® is a Wettable Powder preventive bio-fungicide based on the bacterial strain Pseudomonas sp. DSMZ 13134, with a concentration of 6,6 x 1010 CFU/g, capable of improving the potatoes’ production, both in yield and quality.Its ubiquity in nature, low eco-toxicological and environmental profiles and efficacy against the most important soil-borne pathogens make of Proradix® a solid alternative to the common chemical pesticides for covering the whole life cycle of the tuber.Alternatively, it can be used in association with the most common fungicides.Thanks to the different Modes of Action, the pathogens will scarcely develop any resistance against Proradix®.

Deposan® is a preventive bio-fungicide, containing the active ingredient Pseudomonas sp. DSMZ 13134, effective to control Silver Scab (Helmintosporium solani) on potatoes in post-harvest.Not only Deposan® helps to reduce the number of spores of Helminthosporium solani per mm2 of lesion on the tuber, but also inhibits the spores’ germination, not allowing disease’s reproduction and spreading.Deposan® increases its efficacy in post-harvest, if Silver scab’s field infections were controlled with Proradix® at sowing. It can also be used along with chemical pesticide, in an IPM strategy.

SALAVIDA is a biostimulant, containing the Non-GMO naturally-occurring bacterium Pseudomonas brassicacearum (ex trivialis), isolated in Germany from Potato tubers and owned by SP Sourcon Padena.Pseudomonas brassicacearum is part of the broad group of the PGPRs - Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria, living in the rhizosphere and, after having colonized the root system, cooperating with the plants and bringing them several benefits.The application of SALAVIDA, due to its different interaction modes with the roots’ system brings several benefits to the plant, such as higher roots’ stimulation, better uptake of water, fertilizers and nutritive substances even in stress conditions and an enhanced crops’ production in terms of both quantity and quality, helping farmers to achieve higher returns.

The advantages in use of SALAVIDA are: – Biostimulant effect on roots, plants and fruits. – Higher efficiency in nutritional uptake, reducing the use of chemical fertilizers. – Production of siderophore substances that make the iron more available to the plant. – Higher resistance to abiotic stresses (osmotic, oxidative, salt, thermic …). – Healthier fruits: less nitrates and more Antioxidants. – Induction of Acquired Resistance in the plant against diseases.

EKOseed® TURF is a biostimulant for the treatment of turf seeds, made of different Non-GMO strains of soil bacteria and fungi, owned and produced by Sourcon Padena.In EKOseed® TURF, there are strains of:

– Pseudomonas sp. – has the ability to produce siderophore substances, which, chelating the iron naturally available in the soil, make it more easy assimilable for plants.

– Bacillus sp. – enhances salinity tolerance and absorption of nourishing elements, thanks to the production in the rhizosphere of organic acids and phosphatase.

– Trichoderma sp. – has a great ability to colonize the space in proximity of the roots. It is able to secrete enzymes able to release Phosphorus and substances useful for the plants’ metabolism.

– Mycorrhizae – enter in symbiosis relationship with the roots, stimulating their growth and enabling them to explore new soil zones, thus helping the roots to better uptake nutrients which would not normally be available.

The advantages derived from the application to the turf seeds of EKOseed® TURF are: – Higher seeds germinability. – Higher efficiency in water and nutrients absorption from the plant. – A more intense green coloration, given by a higher availability of Iron, made more available from Pseudomonas sp. – Higher tolerance to abiotic stresses (hydric, saline, climatic, …). – Thanks to a more efficient assimilation of nutrients, the turf shows a better resistance to soil-borne pathogens’ attacks.

To maintain the lawn for all the season, SP Sourcon Padena suggests to apply every 4-6 weeks EKOprop® TURF, that, strengthening the microbiota applied through EKOseed® TURF, helps the turf to resist stresses.
