When you travel to South America with Scenic Tours you’ll be rewarded every day with exciting and diverse encounters. The Inca ruins at the mountaintop citadel of Machu Picchu. Cuzco’s old town and architecture spanning from pre-Inca to Spanish colonial times. The thundering cataracts of Iguazu Falls. The fascinating culture of the local communities at Lake Titicaca, one of the world’s highest navigable lakes. The trio of cities abuzz with life – Santiago, Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires. And these are just a few.
The South American ExpertsWe have many years of experience in South America and carefully plan our holidays so that you
get maximum enjoyment from your travels. Our tours are scheduled during the best times of the
year to travel. In Peru we make sure that you’ll gradually acclimatise to higher altitudes over several
days, by starting in the Sacred Valley, continuing to Machu Picchu and Cuzco before arriving at Lake
Titicaca. And there are exciting cruising options too - into the Amazon wilderness, to the Galapagos
Islands, amazing Antarctica, or along the Chilean fjords.
The Scenic Tours DifferenceThere is so much to absorb at every destination, and we let you do just that with extended stays.
After your day touring the archaeological site at Machu Picchu you’ll have the next morning free
to revisit the ruins, spend time wandering through the township of Aguas Calientes, or just relax
in your fabulous Scenic Special Stay hotel. You’ll spend three nights in Santiago, Rio and Buenos
Aires, with lots of included sightseeing and activities as well as time to explore on your own. You’ll
have two relaxing nights at Iguazu Falls, staying inside the national park, where we take you to the
falls three times - touring the spectacular Brazilian Falls, travelling by boat upstream to the ‘Devil’s
Throat’, and taking the rainforest train to view the falls from the walkways on the Argentinean side.

Antarctica is high on the wish-list of travellers who dream of the excitement of adventures in this untouched wilderness. The launch of Le Boréal takes expedition cruising in Antarctica to a new level. In 2011, Scenic Tours guests will experience Antarctica in style onboard.
The Allure of the White ContinentThere is no other place on earth where the impact of mankind is so small. In the frozen realms
of Antarctica, the natural world thrives in a landscape which is both inhospitable to man and
majestically beautiful. From the comfort of your luxury ship, you can access this place by Zodiac in
the company of an expert crew of naturalists and historians. All of the guides are fully accredited
and they will make your zodiac excursions and encounters with seals, penguins and marine life
incredibly rewarding.
A Brand New Cruise Ship – Le BoréalWith her maiden voyage in May 2010, Le Boréal’s first Antarctica cruises are in high demand,
setting new standards of luxury and comfort. Employing the latest in marine technology and
eco-friendly practices, the ship has been designed and purpose-built for expedition cruising. In
the spirit of a private yacht, Le Boréal has an intimate and luxurious atmosphere. There are just
132 beautifully appointed staterooms and 94% have private balconies. Dine on fine French cuisine
or light and healthy options in either of the two restaurants. Attend informative lectures in the
theatre, find a quiet corner in the library or pamper yourself in the Beauty Centre.
In 2011, Scenic Tours offers a fully escorted Antarctic expedition cruise combined with the luxury

A wilderness expedition meets luxury travel aboard the new MV Aria. Fly into the remote town of Iquitos and sail along the northern Amazon River into the Pacaya Samiria Reserve. This protected wildlife area is blanketed by rainforest and jungle and is only accessible by boat. Here you’ll have the chance to observe thousands of brilliantly coloured birds, monkeys, the three toed sloth, caymans, iguanas and the endangered pink Amazon dolphin. You will interact with local people living in villages alongside the river in much the same way as they have for centuries.
Introducing MV Aria Launching in February 2011 the new MV Aria is an intimate cruise ship, exclusively chartered by
Scenic Tours, catering to a maximum of 32 guests in complete luxury. There is plenty of space to
relax onboard including an abundant outdoor observation deck with Jacuzzi, a comfortable lounge,
bar and intimate dining room. The luxurious oversized guest suites include sitting areas and floor
to ceiling glass windows for panoramic Amazon River views. Elegant dining is a feature of life
onboard and the menu reflects Peruvian and European influences. Fine South American wines are
complimentary with meals. Four highly trained English-speaking naturalist guides will take you on
up to three expeditions a day, aboard comfortable motorised skiffs. They’ll share with you their
boundless knowledge of the flora, fauna and history of the Amazon.
Scenic Tours’ Amazon AdventureScenic Tours are the only travel company who will fully escort you on your Amazon cruise. In addition
to the ship’s guides, your Scenic Tours Tour Director will be onboard. Because we exclusively charter
the entire ship, you can be sure that your fellow passengers will be like-minded travellers. Only with
Scenic Tours can you combine South America touring with cruising on the Amazon and a Galapagos
Islands cruise. This fully escorted luxury holiday is sure to be the trip of a lifetime.

The Galapagos Islands are one of the natural world’s last frontiers. Scenic Tours offers you the opportunity to combine your South American holiday with a deluxe expedition cruise aboard the MV Galapagos Legend that will allow you to explore this incredible ecosystem. And, you can add an Amazon cruise to create a fully escorted South American holiday full of memorable highlights – exclusive to Scenic Tours.
The Greatest Wildlife Sanctuary on EarthSurrounded by the vast Pacific Ocean, these dramatically beautiful volcanic islands were the
inspiration for Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. Their complete isolation has bred many unique
species which are instinctively unafraid of man. You’ll be amazed at how closely you can position
yourself to observe these creatures coexisting freely - giant tortoises, blue footed boobies, fur seals,
penguins, sea lions and land and marine iguanas.
Your Deluxe Expedition Cruise ShipThe MV Galapagos Legend has been specifically fitted out for Galapagos Island cruising. Onboard
is a team of guides who are accredited naturalists, officially rated as the best in the business. They
will host many informative presentations on the ecology and history of the islands and accompany
you on daily excursions ashore or snorkelling in the marine reserve.
With spacious public areas, a swimming pool and broad observation decks you’ll have all the
amenities of a deluxe cruise ship with the intimacy of a small expedition vessel. Your stateroom
with large picture windows and ensuite facilities will be a Junior Suite. You’ll have the services of
a concierge and the ship’s chefs will present mouthwatering Ecuadorian and international cuisine.
In the evenings there’s stargazing on deck and often the water around the ship will be floodlit for
viewing marine life in action.

The shoreline surrounding the southern tip of South America is isolated, wild and dramatically beautiful. Because large parts of the coast are not easily accessed by road, the best way is to see it from a luxury cruise ship. You can add one of three wonderful cruising options to your Scenic Tours South America holiday. Depending on which one you select, you can also cruise to offshore islands and the Antarctic Peninsula.
A Choice of Two Magnificent ShipsGrandly proportioned and recently enhanced, the ms Veendam offers spacious comfort and the
latest Signature of Excellence features. Star Princess is a destination of her own with every amenity
imaginable and impeccable service. Onboard both ships Scenic Tours guests enjoy guaranteed
Balcony Staterooms for private viewing of the passing scenery. Staterooms offer everything you
would expect from a first class hotel, including 24 hour room service. All meals and entertainment
onboard are included and you will dine on some of the finest meals.
Around Cape HornBoard the ms Veendam or Star Princess for a 12 or 14 night cruise between Valparaiso and
Buenos Aires or Rio de Janeiro, with scenic cruising around Cape Horn. Puerto Montt’s scenery
is fabulous – blue-green fjords and the snow-capped volcanoes of Chile’s Lake District. Ushuaia
is your gateway to the “End of the World” in Tierra del Fuego National Park. In Stanley on the
Falkland Islands, browse at the Britannia House Museum or visit penguin rookeries. The charming
old city of Montevideo is the site of Uruguay’s last Spanish-built military bastion and the Graff Spee
Monument.
Scenic Cruising in AntarcticaChoose from two itineraries including spending Christmas and New Year at sea on a 20-night cruise
from Rio de Janeiro to Buenos Aires. Both itineraries include four days of scenic cruising along the
Antarctic Peninsula. You’ll have the chance to observe colonies of penguins, seals and abundant
sea birds as you cruise past incredible ice formations.

Rio Carnivale is about celebrating all the colours of life in the grandest manner. Samba is the essence of the Carnivale and the Sambodrome is its base. Samba is uniquely Brazilian originating from Rio, a dance form that was invented by the poor Afro-Brazilians. The samba schools are social clubs representing a particular neighbourhood, usually a working class
community of the slums (favelas). They have a
dance hall to entertain and practice their samba, and a
separate production unit to make their costumes and floats for the Rio
Carnivale Parade. Preparation for the
Parade starts months in advance, as each
samba school mobilises thousands of supporters who will create the
various parts of the school’s display.
The schools practice continuously for months for
their acts which comprise colourful floats, queens,
and the best samba dancers who are selected from
many enthusiasts. Rio Carnivale provides a
platform for not only the best samba schools but
even the base schools get a chance to show their
talent as a part of the celebrations.
The venue of the Parade, the Sambadrome, can
seat around 70,000 people. The highlight of
Carnivale is undoubtedly the Samba Schools
Parade. The Champion’s Parade is the finale of the
event and eagerly anticipated with the top six
samba schools parading again in all their splendour
and marvel. Enjoy watching all the colour of the
Champion’s Parade on day 14 of your tour.

This afternoon take a magical journey through the “Mirrored Forest,” seeing towering trees reflected in the black water river, while spotting dozens of enchanting parrots, blue-yellow macaws and a great variety of primates and sloths enjoying nature unperturbed by our presence.

Cabin upgrades are available on some cruises at additional cost. Shore excursions for Princess and Holland America Line Cruises are at your expense and may only be booked direct with the relevant cruise company.17. Airfare Conditions - Discounted airfares are subject to availability and conditions apply. Your Scenic reservations consultant will book the most appropriate fare for your tour. Please note: Some discounted airfares have conditions which make them unsuitable to be used in conjunction with these tours. Full details and conditions may be obtained from your travel agent. Earlybird airfares will be ticketed upon receipt of deposit. Any variations to your flight itinerary will incur variation fees and surcharges. All airfares are subject to routing restrictions. Airfares and applicable taxes may be subject to increase without notice due to factors outside Scenic’s control. Please contact your travel agent for applicable rules and regulations relating to your
air travel.18. Tour Variations - Scenic may, in its absolute discretion and without notice, change or vary your tour itinerary. Whilst Scenic will make reasonable efforts to operate the tour as close as possible to your tour itinerary, changes or substitutions may be necessary for reasons outside Scenic’s control. These circumstances may include, but are not limited to: road, river or weather conditions; national or local holidays affecting the closure of public buildings and attractions; strikes, civil disturbances and advices by governments or other Force Majeure Events. In particular, airlines, rail and cruise carriers, and Scenic reserve the right to cancel, advance or postpone any scheduled dates and may, but are not obliged to, substitute another means of transportation to ensure travel on any scheduled dates. Scenic is not liable for any loss whatsoever to you by reason of any such cancellation, advancement or postponement. Airlines, cruise and rail carriers, and Scenic reserve the right to change the itinerary whenever conditions, in the opinion of the airline, Master of the Ship, local waterways regulations or rail operator, render it advisable or necessary in the circumstances. Airlines, cruise and rail carriers and Scenic will not be responsible for any loss or expense caused by such changes and will not be subject to any claim by you for refund or compensation.19. Photography - The tour programs operated by Scenic offer some of the most spectacular and beautiful photographic scenery in the world. However, due to possible tour variations, Scenic cannot guarantee that every scene or highlight featured in the tour program will be available on each tour. Consequently, no refund will be available for any resulting missed scene or photographic “opportunity”. 20. Tour Participation - Scenic’s South American program requires passengers to have an appropriate level of health and fitness. Please ensure you select a suitable holiday for your level of fitness. Walking on uneven ground and surfaces whilst visiting monuments and antiquities, boarding or alighting from various modes of transport in sometimes difficult terrain, all require an appropriate level of fitness and mobility. Cruise ships do not provide wheelchair accessibility and do not have lifts. For the Galapagos tour, embarking and disembarking cruise ships is by inflatable zodiac boats and some “wet landings” are over rocks which may be slippery. Scenic regrets that it is unable to provide individual assistance to a passenger for walking, dining, boarding motor coaches or other modes of transport or for any other personal need. Passengers requiring such assistance must be accompanied by a qualified companion. Scenic at its sole discretion reserves the right to decline the booking of any passenger whose condition may affect their health, safety and enjoyment or that of any other passenger. In addition, Scenic reserves the right to cancel a tour of a passenger whilst on tour, for any of the above stated reasons and will not be responsible for any expenses resulting from the preclusion of such person from the remainder of the tour. If you are precluded from participating in any part of a tour, you will be under your own arrangements at your own expense. No refund will be paid for the unused portion of the tour. It is your responsibility to notify Scenic of any disability, medical condition, dietary requirement or any other special needs at the time of booking. Scenic reserves the right to decline your booking if Scenic deems that it cannot provide for any or all special needs as identified by you; or if Scenic deems that you will not abide by these terms and conditions. 21. Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS) - Some South American cities are situated at altitudes of 2800 metres above sea level or higher. At these levels, AMS (caused by lack of oxygen at high altitudes) affects most people to some extent. AMS effects can range from mild to severe and occurs because less oxygen is reaching the muscles and the brain, requiring the heart and lungs to compensate by working harder. Symptoms of AMS usually develop during the first 24 hours at altitude but may be delayed up to 3 weeks. Mild symptoms include headache, lethargy, dizziness, difficulty sleeping and loss of appetite. AMS may become severe without warning. Please consult your doctor before departure to ensure you have an adequate level of fitness and health.22. Vaccinations - It is your sole responsibility to ensure that you have all required vaccinations for your tour; refer to www.smarttraveller.gov.au for full details and also consult your doctor. In particular, it is important to note that yellow fever is a quarantinable disease in Australia and travelers to certain areas in South America must hold a Yellow Fever International Vaccination Certificate within 6 days prior to their re-entry back into Australia. For travelers over 60 years of age, it is important that you consult your medical advisor concerning the suitability of the yellow fever vaccine in the context of their own individual medical circumstances. This information is correct at the time of printing. It is your sole responsibility to check vaccination requirements for all countries visited in your itinerary prior to departure. You will not receive a refund if you are unable to be vaccinated and if as a result you decide not to complete your tour.23. Medical Conditions - Scenic strongly recommends a visit to your doctor and dentist before your tour. If you are aged 70 and over at the departure date you must provide a doctor’s letter clearing you to take your specific tour, and should include a reference to the itinerary destinations and departure date. It is your sole responsibility to advise Scenic of any pre-existing medical conditions that might reasonably be expected to increase the risk of you requiring medical attention, or that might affect the normal conduct of a tour and the enjoyment of other tour members. All travelers will be required to fill in the Scenic health and fitness forms to be handed to your Tour Director on arrival.

Scenic accepts no responsibility for the suitability of the allocated rooming partner. However, the single supplement will not be refunded at tour completion.27. Young Passengers - Passengers under the age of 21 years (as at the departure date) must be accompanied by an adult. Children under the age of 15 years are not encouraged (with the exception of Christmas tours and cruises) and are accepted or rejected at the sole discretion of Scenic.28. Airport Transfers - Are only available on the first and last day of your tour and at times designated by Scenic. If your airline booking is not made by Scenic, you must ensure your flight details are provided to Scenic (this can be entered by Tour Personaliser at www.scenictours.com.au). No refund will be given for unused transfers. Transfers cannot be routed to other pick-up points or destinations. If you miss the pre-booked transfer you will be responsible for making your own way to the airport, at your own expense. Double Bed Accommodation - Please note that throughout these areas, twin bed accommodation is very common and double beds are either not available or only available in very limited numbers. Consequently, whilst Scenic will endeavor to meet client’s request for double beds, this may not always be possible.31. Luggage - Passengers are entitled to one suitcase per person. Due to limited coach capacity, your suitcase must not exceed 76 x 53 x 28cms (30’’ x 21’’x 11’’) and weight should not exceed 20kg (42lbs). Personal items should be carried in a travel bag. Airline passengers should consult with their air carrier as size and weight restrictions may vary from airline to airline and also according to the class booked. In addition, airline and airport luggage safety regulations must be complied with. It is your responsibility to ensure that your luggage complies and you acknowledge that Scenic or contracted carriers may elect not to carry overweight items. You will be responsible for excess baggage charges and otherwise complying with airline regulations and safety requirements. Excess and /or overweight luggage is your own expense. If you are travelling to South America, Scenic recommends you use hard suitcases that can be securely locked. If your tour is stopping overnight in Machu Picchu, Peru, you are required to carry hand luggage for one night’s accommodation only. Your remaining luggage will be stored in the Sacred Valley.32.
