A. ASC Chair Report
Yo Ya’ll, I attended and chaired the admin meeting last week. Only the secretary was not able to make it and the alternative treasurer was there in place of the treasurer. We discussed the work-ings of the new venue, and today will reveal more information on how it works. (well I hope)
Last area, It was deciding whether or not to call a motion in order as the chair, I rationalized out loud, why would I would not let the motion hit the floor. I didn't realize that, I was putting my opinion out to the body. That was my bad… I did put the motion on the floor regardless of what I thought of it. But should not have put my thoughts out on the floor, and for that, I apologize.
On another note.. I was going over some literature orders with the Lit Chair, and noticed that the South Broward area is selling literature to groups for less than we pay for it. With the area al-ways operating below prudent reserve… This should be fixed ASAP. The literature committee will be bringing that up in today's business. I was reading over the policy (which I do when I can) and I noticed that it says many of the activities procedures in policy have not been fol-lowed.. Most important, is that all events put on by our activities committee must first be ap-proved here, by the ASC, so I should ask, the committee to bring future events for this cycle (which is through September) to the area floor to be voted on.
I've been meaning to go to the activities meeting… But life has other plans for me on a regular basis so I am bringing my findings to the ASC.
Last night, I attended the area function, there was a speaker from AA. In my time in this area and the Gold Coast area all area function speakers are supposed to be “ any speakers with a NA mes-sage but alas I could not find this to be in our area policy anywhere. We might want to fix that or we might not I cannot give my opinion so I will leave this information for the ASC today. That's it for now

C. Secretary: I’m willing to step down Alt Secretary due to my limitation when fulfilling this commitment. I struggle getting the minutes out on time and if someone else could meet the requirements for this position, I feel its only right that I step down. I can’t commit to getting the minutes out 10 days after area. I also can’t commit to the Admin meeting. I have been in this position for over a year. I am not going anywhere unless someone else can step up. Thank you
D. RCM: Welcome to our February ASC meeting I hope you are all Comfortable. I am looking forward to region later this month. Region is in Fort Myers in 2 weeks. In loving service Robert S

8. Subcommittee Reports A. Activities Chair The committee just wanted to thank those from our area who came out and supported the Valentine's meeting and dance. Especially those who stayed during the meeting. I wasn't even going to address this, but I feel I really have no choice. The speaker was not an AA speaker like some would like to say. It was a part of his story of recovery and he attends both fellowships. When did we all become so judgmental in put area and how would you feel if you were speaking at a meeting and all of a sudden people were getting up and walking out because you mentioned another fellowship? Because it was a part of your journey you should not be judged so quickly. Since when did this area become so focused on finding fault and not promoting unity? In our dealings with each other in NA, we sometimes disagree rather vocally. You must remember that the details of how we get things done is it always important, so long as we keep our focus on the group's primary purpose. This is taken from the Just For Today meditation. For those that want to get technical, and you know who you are, it's not today's reading. It's January 21st. Unity does not always equal uniformity. With that being said, the committee is working on a budget for the calendar that submitted at last area also anyone that wants to get involved to make suggestions we asked you attend our meeting and get involved on a regular basis.

Nobody told me about the Area Anniversary so that’s why it’s not in the calendar so I apologize for that. We now have 6-8 voting members and really want others to get involved. The treasurer report is attached for the Valentines event we are giving the area $231.00 Thanks for your time and support. Activities committee If anyone still has money from tickets, please give to Betty.
Brian D: “I understand that events need to be approved by area. Can we make it so the speakers are approved by area too?” Policy Chair: “The Activities group should be voting and approving the speaker, not area. “ Activities Chair: “I told the speaker to please share an NA messege, he said – “no problem I got this”- and the first sentence out of his mouth was about AA, so I apologize to the area. He happened to be by first sponsor and he had an NA message when I met him.”
Treasurer: “I need the receipts from the Valentine’s event Activities Chair: “I don’t have any receipts, the DJ cost $125 and the $100 for the room, and I came out of my pocket for the rest of the stuff.”
Area Chair: In our policy, it says all monies need to be paid by a check from the Treasurer. Outlay of funds need to come from the treasurer by check. In order for our trust to function and to have accountability, it’s in our policy that any outlays of funds need to come from the treasurer by check at area. If it were an emergency, then the Admin Committee would get involved and we would take an Admin vote. Receipts always go to the treasure. Ticket sales actually go to the activities treasurer who then forwards that money to the area treasurer.”
Activities Chair: “Last night I worked out a discounted price for the DJ and the room, so how do we do that?”
Area Chair: “If that was the case, they would have already been paid and they would of refunded you the cash to give to area. You would of paid him originally with a check from the treasurer.”
Alt RCM: “We can still work out deals and discounts. We must do this in a way where we are accountable to area. “ Area Chair: “We ask that the sub committee chairs attend our
Admin business meeting, this is not a requirement, but could be helpful to learn more about the infrastructure of how we do things. Anyone is invited come to this meeting. We meet ever Sunday before area at 4700 Sheridan Street Suit P Hollywood FL 33021- 6pm.”
Activities Chair: “It has been brought to my attention that our committee isn’t being run by policy, I’d like to request a favor from policy to chair to attend a few of our meetings and give us some structure. The Activity Committee meets aver 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. ”

E. H&I Chair:
My name is Ryan and I am an addict. H&I is doing very well. One open meeting in Hollywood at a Detox, University and Sheridan. We meet the third Tuesday of the month at St. Lutheran’s church at 7pm Orientation is ½ hour before meeting- 6:30 pm
Must have 6 months clean and have paneled 3 times plus an orientation attendance to take on a H&I commitment.

When I was looking through regionals forms and what we charge, I noticed that we are loosing money in our area. We are charging our area one cent above what region charges us, which is not accounting the 7% tax and 5% shipping. Prices have not been increased in God knows how many years. For the area we need to increase our prices about 12%. I know nobody is going to like this, but we don’t want our area to go down. Last month a hand truck was donated to us
Treasurer: “The literature gets shipped to Miami, can we get it shipped to Broward for a lower cost?”

Lit: “We could, but nowhere to ship it too. It gets shipped to business to business which is cheaper then residential. The other issue, compared to other areas is that we don’t order in big bulk. We don’t spend thousands of dollars and the more money you spend, you get discounts from region. That’s also why the other areas can charge a little less because they get discounts.”
Vice Chair:” Just to clarify we have been paying this for years and little by little that’s where all out money went, correct?”
Lit: “Yes for example we pay .24 cents plus sales tax and shipping for pamphlets. We charge 25 cents. Were paying more then we’re charging. We go through a lot of pamphlets. Next area will have new literature sheets and costs. I will also get the new form on the website as soon as possible. I will send the new order form to Ashley so she can send them out with minutes. “
G. Policy: Max S.
Policy meeting was once again at the admin committee meeting due to that there are no other members of policy. I printed six copies of the latest policy dated 10/2016. For next area I will have a printed copy with most updated changes. Hopefully any subcommittee that needs a copy of policy has it and has familiarized themselves with it. Noticed and heard a couple things that reflect that policy isn't being read.
It is every subcommittee chair and members responsibility to read policy and know policy, leaving no excuse for not knowing the policies for your committee. There’s been a lot of discussion over the recent event put on by activities and it says right here, you don’t have to go to the Group pamphlet- “The purpose of activities is to coordinate and plan activities that promote unity and fellowship in the NA program”- and by having a speaker that introducing himself as an alcoholic is not promoting unity no matter how you look at it. This is not my opinion, this is what it is.
It also does say in policy that we charge full face value and tax to out literature, it doesn’t mention shipping, but I would imagine full face value covers the shipping costs. So this does not need to go back to groups to change the price, we just need to change the order forms to reflect the true costs. At the next area I will have one copy of policy with the motions that have been made over the past 2 years. This copy will be for review of the admin committee. I’m also open to going to any subcommittee group meetings to answer any questions about policy to the best of my ability.
