Megan Cooper is a native of Pendleton, South Carolina. A
2002 graduate of Pendleton High School, she attended Winthrop
University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She graduated from
Winthrop, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music degree in
Music Education in 2006.
Mrs. Cooper is the Director of Bands at Gable Middle School in
Spartanburg School District Six in Roebuck, South Carolina
where she has served for the past nine years. During that time, she
has also assisted the Dorman High School Band. Under her
direction, the Gable Middle School Bands have consistently
earned Superior ratings at South Carolina State Concert Band
Performance Assessment and other state and regional adjudicated
events. While at Gable, her bands have been awarded seven
consecutive Outstanding Performance Awards. In addition to her
responsibilities at Gable, Mrs. Cooper is a member of Phi Beta
Mu, the South Carolina Band Director’s Association, South
Carolina Music Educator’s Association, The National Association
for Music Education, Delta Omicron, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
Mrs. Cooper resides in Spartanburg, South Carolina with her
wonderful husband Robbie, and their two young sons, Jack and
Henry.

Joshua Hinkel serves as the Associate Director of Bands at
River Bluff High School in Lexington, South Carolina. Ensembles
under his direction have received superior ratings at festivals as well
as numerous regional, state and circuit championships. Before
coming to River Bluff, Mr. Hinkel served as Director of Bands at
Ashley Ridge High School in Summerville, South Carolina, Lake
View High School in Lake View, South Carolina and R.H. Rolling’s
Middle School of the Arts in Summerville, South Carolina. In con-
stant demand as a composer, conductor and arranger, his works can
be heard from concert halls of the Kennedy Center for the Perform-
ing Arts, ballrooms of the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, to the
performing venues of Drum Corps International (DCI), Winter Guard
International (WGI) and Bands of America (BOA).
He is a featured concert band composer with C. Alan Publications
from Greensboro, North Carolina and Alfred Publishing from Van
Nuys, California. Nationally recognized, he is continually in service
as a composer/conductor, traveling all over the United States, work-
ing with students at numerous honor band clinics and festivals. Mr.
Hinkel enjoys nothing more than working with student musicians in
the pursuit of creating beautiful and exciting music. He has also been
a Grammy Award nominated music educator.
Within the marching arts activity, Mr. Hinkel currently serves as the brass arranger for the Carolina Thunder Drum and Bugle
Corps from Charlotte, North Carolina. Past composition and arranging appointments have included the Cascades Drum and
Bugle Corps from Seattle, Washington, Spokane Thunder Drum and Bugle Corps from Spokane, Washington and staff arranging
duties for the Coastal Carolina “Spirit of the Chanticleer” Marching Band. Other musical affiliations have included the Spirit of
Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, the Tampa Bay Thunder Drum and Bugle Corps and Coastal Surge Drum and Bugle Corps in
addition to numerous high school and college programs throughout the United States.
Mr. Hinkel is a member of the Vic Firth Educational Team. He holds the B.M. in Music Education from the University
of South Carolina and the M. Ed in Secondary Education from Coastal Carolina University. Mr. Hinkel’s passion is to create
new and exciting music for students of all ages in addition to teaching life-skills, leadership and the art of music making. He is
also a national board certified teacher (NBCT). He resides in Lexington, South Carolina with his wife Jessica, Yorkshire Terrier
Joey and attends NewSpring Church.

D. Vincent Clayton is retired after 34 years of
teaching, the last 21 years at Ridge View High
School in Columbia, South Carolina. He received
both the Bachelor of Music Education and Master
of Music Education degrees from the University of
South Carolina.
Under his direction, the Ridge View band program
received numerous Superior Ratings and awards in
marching and concert events. The Blazer Marching
Band was a consistent finalist at the South Carolina
State Championships and at several Bands of
America Regional competitions.
The Ridge View Symphonic Band received
numerous Superior Ratings at state and national
events. They performed at the Bands of America
National Concert Festival, four times at the South Carolina Music Educators State Conven-
tion, twice at the University of South Carolina Band Clinic, the University of Southern Mis-
sissippi Band Clinic, and the Grand National Adjudicators Invitational.
His professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education; the
National Band Association; the South Carolina Band Directors Association; Phi Beta Mu;
Pi Kappa Lambda; and he is a Past Chapter President of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is also
a charter member and Past President of the Palmetto Concert Band. Mr. Clayton received
the National Band Association’s “Citation of Excellence” on five different occasions, the
John Philip Sousa Foundation’s “Legion of Honor”, Phi Beta Mu’s “Outstanding
Bandmaster Award”, and in 2016, Mr. Clayton was inducted in both the South Carolina
Band Directors Association’s and the Phi Beta Mu’s “Hall of Fame”.

Dr. Nola Jones is the Coordinator of Visual and Per-
forming Arts for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools in
Nashville, Tennessee. Her duties include instructional supervi-
sion of four hundred professional arts education specialists,
curriculum planning, professional development and implemen-
tation of Music Makes Us.
Music Makes Us is a public/private partnership among Metro
Nashville Public Schools, Nashville Mayor Megan Barry and
music industry and community leaders in Nashville. Its pur-
pose is to ensure Metro Nashville Public Schools is a world-
wide leader in music education, bringing the resources of the
Nashville music community together to enable participation
and foster student success for all of its approximately 85,000
students.
Prior to her appointment in Nashville, Dr. Jones served as
Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Music Education
at the University of Tennessee at Martin and Assistant Director
of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music Education at
Northern Arizona University.
A native of Mississippi, Dr. Jones has enjoyed a successful tenure as a public school music educator. Ensembles
Dr. Jones instructed were recognized for their achievements in concert, sight-reading and marching, including
performances in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, three Bands of America Regional Championships and the
John Philip Sousa Foundations’ prestigious Sudler Shield of Excellence.
Dr. Jones maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor, adjudicator and clinician. She has appeared
nationally in forty of the United States and internationally in Canada, Japan, the Netherlands and Singapore. She
currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Performing Arts Center and Spotify for Education’s
Advisory Board. She is a member of the judge liaison team for Drum Corps International. She has served as a
state chair for the National Band Association and is Past President of Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters’ Eta
Chapter. Her professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, Tennessee Music
Educators Association, Tennessee Bandmasters Association, Middle Tennessee School Band and Orchestra
Association, National Band Association, Phi Beta Mu, Sigma Alpha Iota, Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi.
Dr. Jones received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Mississippi State University and the Master of
Music Education degree from Mississippi College. She received her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Conducting
from the University of South Carolina where she was a student of Dr. William J. Moody.
