Inspiring Excellence through PRIDE Principal: Mr Peter Hickey Vere Street South Grafton NSW 2460 T: 02 6642 3388 F:02 6643 2065 [email protected] Congratulations to all of our wonderful primary students who received their silver badge at Tuesday’s special assembly held in our primary hall. We had 32 students achieve this excellent standard. Each student received a silver badge, silver certificate, school bumper sticker and a very special individual photo to take home to their families to recognise their individual outstanding achievements. Following this assembly all of these students enjoyed a delicious morning tea which was prepared by our canteen manager Mrs Cassematis. Our thanks to Mrs Kylie Ryan and Miss Taylor Barnes for organising these assemblies and our wonderful staff for their support of our excellent positive rewards system and these fantastic students. Good luck to our two netball teams who are participating in a gala day to be held on Tuesday 22nd September. They will be playing against Grafton PS and Westlawn PS. Our thanks to Mrs Heyman for coaching these teams. We have recently purchased two new hall runners and two 3x3m floor mats for our infants campus. Earlier this week we utilised our new mats for the first time to support our online PPP transition program. They look fantastic. Good luck to all our infants students who will be participating in tomorrows infants athletics carnival being held on our infants campus. This is a fantastic day for our students and I know our staff are really looking forward to a wonderful day. Our thanks to Mrs Walters and Mrs Beadman for organising this carnival and our wonderful staff for their support. Unfortunately parents are unable to attend but we will be posting photos on our Facebook page for your perusal. A reminder that this is a normal school day on our infants campus and students will be required to stay at school for the full day. Next week our primary campus will be holding a modified athletics carnival on Wednesday and Thursday to support our primary students. Field events will be held on the primary campus and running races on the infants campus. Students who are successful will receive their normal ribbons and individual champions will also be recognised as per normal. A reminder parents unfortunately are unable to attend and our winning athletes will not progress to the next level. On Tuesday we posted our third PPP online activity. Thank you to all the parents who have messaged a picture of their child participating. Congratulations to Mrs Bishop who was our presenter this week. We will post our preschoolers finished work today on our Facebook Page. Preschoolers, keep an eye out for a certificate recognising your fabulous work. Parents if you missed this weeks or any week you can scroll back on our news feed to find the activity. Our final online activity for this term will be posted next Tuesday. The NSW DEC guidelines are continually being evaluated and at this stage we will be preparing our first online activity for the second week of Term 4 - Tuesday 20th October. If guidelines have changed and we are allowed to implement our normal PPP program we will ensure all of our parents receive this communication very early next term.If you are aware of families who maybe enrolling their child in Kindergarten next year please encourage them to complete an enrolment form which is now available online or contact the infants office for more information or assistance.

Good luck to our debating team who are debating against Grafton PS tomorrow in the third round of the Premier’s Debating Challenge. The debate will be held at our school. The topic area for this weeks debate will be based on sport, health and fitness.

Congratulations to students in 5/6ER and Miss Emily Ryan who were successful in the Department of Education’s Game Changer Challenge. Students were grouped in teams of 5 and had to come up with a solution to a 21st century problem. This year’s problem was: “How might we use technology to bring everyone in our community closer together”. Three out of our six teams have been selected to represent the North Coast regions at the semi-finals in Term 4. There are four hundred and twenty students in 84 teams from all corners of NSW participating in the Game Changer Challenge 2020 semifinals. Our three teams will be participating in the North Coast regions semi finals which will be held in Coffs Harbour on Wednesday 11th November.

Listed below are the teams we will be competing against:‘Burringbar Brain Benders’ - Burringbar Public School‘CHPS Innovators’ - Crescent Head Public School‘Community Laps’ - South Grafton Public School‘Connect to Community App’ - Murwillumbah High School‘Game Changer Gang’ - Wyrallah Road Public School‘Mullaway Game Changers’ - Mullaway Primary School‘Planet Home Inc.’ - Murwillumbah High School‘South Grafton Five’ - South Grafton Public School‘South Explorers’ - South Grafton Public School‘Team Tregeagle’ - Tregeagle Public School‘The Narrangatangs’ - Narranga Public School‘Thunder Blitz’ - Alstonville Public School

This is a fantastic achievement by our school and we wish our students and Miss Ryan all the very best.

Please remember to practise social distancing whenpicking up and dropping off your children, particularly on our Infants campus. We would appreciate parents drop and go during these times. No parents should be in the corridors. Parents should only be visiting the school through the office for essential reasons. Please ensure your child has a drink bottle as our bubblers are closed for individual drinking.

Have a great week!Mr Peter Hickey - Principal

Marvellous Maths with Mrs McGrathThis week Stage 1 have been exploring the properties and attributes of 3D objects. They are learning about what objects roll and stack and objects that are called prisms, pyramids and spheres. They have learnt the mathematically correct way to describe objects using the terms vertex, faces and edges. It is amazing how quickly students use this new knowledge to create new objects and draw and describe things in their environment. Here are a few of the interesting things we have been doing.

SRC NewsOver the last few weeks the SRC conducted a handball competition on the Primary Campus. All students from Year 3 through to Year 6 were invited to take part. The SRC were responsible for umpiring and scoring each game. Competitors played well in all three rounds. The finals were very interesting and hard fought. There was an overall winner and a runner up for each Year level. Congratulations to our winners! Thank you to the SRC for making this competition fun and rewarding.

Infants Campus Recycling

Over the past year the infants campus have been recycling. Thanks to Mr Duroux and Mrs M for sorting and collecting our money as we have been able to buy some fantastic new equipment for our playground and to use on our sports day. The infants students enjoyed playing with their new equipment at lunch time today.

5KR5KR have been exploring 2-dimensional shapes that could be folded to form a 3-dimensional shape. Students had to record the name of the shape, and the number of faces, edges and vertices.
