We have a large squad of swimmers representing our school and I know all of them will try their very best and support each other. Mr Newman, Mr Jones and Miss Streader are accompanying our students today. Swimmers who are successful at this carnival will have the opportunity to participate in next weeks Mid North Coast Carnival being held at Coffs Harbour on Tuesday 27th February. We are aware this date clashes with our school photos for the Primary, unfortunately we have no control over this as our photos are booked 12 months in advance. When we are aware of who will be attending this carnival we will try our very best to make accommodations for their class/family photos. On Tuesday we held our Leadership Induction Assembly where we recognised our school captains and vice captains, prefects, SRC (Student Representative Council), sporting house captains and library monitors. Congratulations to all these wonderful students on being elected in these very responsible and privileged positions in our school. We are very impressed with the quality of our students leadership team and we are looking forward to all of these leaders contributing in a very positive manner in their roles in 2018. Our thanks to Mrs McIntyre, Mrs Rouse and Mr Jones for organising our Induction Assembly, our staff for their support and our wonderful parents who attended this assembly. I know everyone would be very proud of this tremendous group of leaders. Our new ‘Skoolbag App’ is now available to our school and wider community. Initially we will be using this app for our parents to access notes including our newsletter, permission notes, possible routine changes and relevant information related to school which includes change of details and absentee explanation. Part of our school vision for this year is to have our communications paperless, where our parents can access any required information through technology including our Facebook page, Skoolbag app, email and website. For example currently we are still printing 145 hard copies of our newsletter each week. All of the listed technology have our weekly newsletter available for your perusal. The ongoing costs of printing newsletters etc is quite extensive so your consideration of using any of these devices would be greatly appreciated. Many of our community have access to smart phones and we would be very willing to conduct a workshop to assist our parents if required to utilise these resources. The added bonus of the newsletter on these devices is that it is also in colour. If you wish the newsletter to be emailed please contact the office. Congratulations to all our Year 6 students who participated in last Fridays leadership training day held in our Primary Hall. The workshop was a tremendous success and we will be recognising our Year 6 Pride Leaders at an official assembly being held on 6th March at 11.30am. Thanks to Mr Zacek and Mrs McIntyre for their organisation and our Stage 3 staff for their support of this very positive leadership initiative in our school.

Thank you for your support of the Coles Schools for Sport initiative. Parents who spend $10 at Coles will receive a voucher that can be placed in our collection boxes in the King Street Coles and South Grafton Coles or in the school office foyers. This initiative will run till the 3rd April. Our school will be able to redeem these for sporting equipment. We appreciate your support of our school. Our Infants sign has been turned off awaiting a cabling upgrade. We will be able to turn it back on as soon as this is complete. Just a reminder to all parents and students that the Library Café will be opening on Thursdays this term between

3.00pm and 4.00pm.

This week we held our Meet the Teacher information evenings in our halls. The meetings were very successful and we thank our parents who were able to attend these evenings. The partnership between home and school is a very important part of highly successful schools and we look forward to this excellent partnership continuing in 2018. Thanks to our staff for their excellent preparation and support of this community initiative. Please contact the school if you ever require support and guidance on any issues.

School photos are being held on Tuesday 27th February at the Primary campus and Wednesday 28th February at the Infants campus. If you require a family photo, the envelopes are available from both offices. If you only have primary school age siblings the photo will be taken on Tuesday at the Primary campus and if you have siblings on both campuses the photos will be taken from 8.30am on Wednesday at the Infants campus. Parents must bring their children with the family envelope to the Wednesday family sitting.

Have a great week Peter Hickey Principal

A reminder that our first P&C meeting is next Tuesday 27th February at 6.00pm in the Library. Everyone is welcome.

Our school craft group has started to prepare craft items for our Mother’s Day stall. This group meets on a Wednesday morning 9.00am-11.00am on the Infants campus. We would really appreciate some more helpers, parents/carers or grandparents. Come along, have a cuppa and be creative. For more information contact Kelly Vickers on 0419 162 075.

It has been a busy few weeks with many new ‘Cubs’ having their first lesson on their new instruments. Just a friendly reminder that SGPS band fees need to be finalised before students can take instruments home. All lesson payments are made directly to the

Clarence Valley Conservatorium. We are very excited to have Mr Garrett Salter teaching brass this year. Students need to check the band noticeboard for any changes to their lesson times. A ‘Welcome to Band’ note will come home today giving more specific information about the requirements for each instrument. It looks as though it is going to be a busy year again for our band program.
