Commodore’s Comments Hello all ye seafarers and landlubbers,
What another great month, with our expanding membership, the harbor is getting
very tight and the way I look at it we couldn’t have asked for a better Pier bidding.
Unfortunately not all of the boats were assigned a slip but we will end up with
very few on the waiting list once the temporaries are assigned. The membership
once again did a great job, working with one another, to make certain everything
went down on a fair playing field. On a side note, the membership also did one
fantastic job of spending money across the bar. I think one or two of us may have
felt a little slower than usual come Sunday morning. With that, I would like to
thank Mike Herrington, Rick Klamrowski and Mary Klamrowski for the excellent
job they did during and the weeks leading up to pier bidding. After hearing Mike
on the microphone, I think he is a natural and I look forward to him running this
event for years to come. I would also like to thank Tom Curlic, Meg Curlic and
Donna Conant for sponsoring the luncheon. One last thanks to Page Hans and Bob
Jepson for helping me to get all of the payments and harbor use forms up to date.
Now with some great opportunities for hours, I have to get down to the ones that
really matter to us.
1) Spring is coming quickly and it is almost time to sound the harbor and
think about dredging. Remember, no matter how soon the new fleet cap-
tain wants to put in boats, it won’t happen until we do are due diligence
and make certain that the water levels are sustainable for boating. If you
are interested in helping please contact Randy Kempowski.
2) We will make the harbor navigable and then comes Launch. As always we
will be looking for help on the lift crew. If you are interested, please con-
tact Mike Herrington.
3) Have your boat ready to go in the water…
If we have enough interest, Linda and Jim would be willing to sponsor a Boating
safety class On April 21 and 22nd. The class would be 4 hours each day and is
open for ages 11 and up. I would suggest if your name starts and ends with a “G”
and you happened to hit the boat parked right of you last season, that you serious-
ly consider this class. All kidding aside I think this is a great opportunity for all of
us to receive a DNR approved certification. Please contact Linda Daly as soon as
posable so we can get things rolling.
See you at the club,
Bryan Gahan SMYC Commodore (c) 906-369-4098 (e) [email protected] Past Commodore Comments quote of the Month.
Think Spring! I always feel like I can begin to think spring with the unofficial beginning of our 2009 boating season at Pier Bidding! Mike Gengler, Jr
Capital Improvement Approved Projects for 2018
Repair to harbor Electrical – All electricians on Deck. The first meeting for this Project will be March 8th at 7:00 PM.
The goal is this project is to make our harbor safe while adding components that can be reused in our future harbor
electrical updates.
Replacement of the Lumber on the Fuel Dock – Many of the dolphin poles were damaged during the low water con-
ditions. The intent of the project is to make fueling safe.
Improvement of Exterior Lighting – This will go hand and hand with the building exterior project. The goal is in-
crease efficiency’s with LED lights, to provide the necessary light without light pollution and to increase the overall
esthetics of the grounds.
Replacement of the Decking on the front Deck – Josh doesn’t want his chair to fall through anymore.
Repair of the Wing Dam in the SE corner of the harbor – This is an improvement to the harbor gap with the inten-
tion of reducing silting around slip 1A. This dam has been in disrepair for some time. Some rough days you can hear it
clanking away.
Building beatification project, AKA Designated Smoking area – This project is designed to increase the overall es-
thetics of the grounds while providing an area for smoker in inclement weather.
Update the back hall ceiling and lighting – The intent is to match the look of the ceiling in the front bar.
Reconfigure and Update the Hal kitchen and Storage – The kitchen team is working hard on this project
and have asked for feedback on the counter tops and hardware as soon as possible.
The planning committee is also working on long term infrastructure goals. Just to name a few, upgrading all
electrical service at the piers, upgrading the fuel pump and tanks, interior sea wall repair, the west retaining
wall and landscaping. You did all notice that the pool and hot tub are still not on that list and will still have
to wait for another decade or so. No need to bring it up, LOL again.
