PRE'SIDE'NTS REPORT

As the President of the Club during the 1993/94 season at South Narrabeen I would like to thank the people who gave me support.

This year was one of the hardest and most frustrating seasons I have witnessed at the Club since I joined in 1973/74 season. Being a small club it seems that everything is left to a few and I think we have worn then out.

Members constantly were late or didn't show up for patrols and we were very lucky to have the help from dedicated people like Adrian Finlay, Scott Finlay, Chris Sheehan, Rob Underwood, Tony Haven, Tony Small and Peter Smith as they kept the Club and patrols afloat. I thank them sincerely.

For all members who did complete their commitment of patrolling South Narrabeen beach then, take a bow for a job well done.

South Narrabeen could be in for a very hard and inconsistent season next year if the same people who don't care about the future of the Club join next season. My only advice to them is don't bother.

I would especially like to thank Russell Green and his father, Bill for their continuous support of South Narrabeen in sponsorship through Bilita Frozen Foods.

Stewart Black and Glenn Edwards thank you for your effort every Friday night selling raffle tickets at the Time & Tide.

To Warringah shire Council and the Mayor Mr. Brian Green I thank them for their generosity in this years grant and their ongoing support.

The Nippers had a good season again with Sunday morning events, the youngsters having a lot of fun. It has been a long time since South Narrabeen competed at carnivals, what a great sight. To Stewart Black and his Committee, well done and thank you for all your work. To the incoming Chief, Mark Lawrie, I wish you the best of luck.

Hopefully we can turn the Club around in 1994/95 and head it in the right direction but it will take all members and many more to succeed.

I must again thank everybody from Committee Members to patrolling members, active, associate and nippers. Hope you enjoyed South Narrabeens comrardarie and see you all next season.

Chris Brown, President.

SECRETARY'S REPORT

Once again I can say 'No lives lost" on South Narrabeen beach while it was patrolled.

That is about all I could write that was good about the patrols. The attitude of some members is that they don't give a x?.*, these members we don't need, they are only bringing down the good name of South Nai-rabeen and the people associated with it. I feel that any member that rejoins next season that has patrols misdemeanours will have to fulfil them before he starts his new patrol obligations. Those members who did fulfil their patrols obligations, THANK YOU!

On a brighter side we had our first influx of members from the "Nipper" section of the Club, this can only make us more viable, thanks to Doug Sewell for the effort he put into the squad.

Thanks to Warringah Shire Council for their support and Bilita Frozen Foods our major sponsor.

To my fellow Committee Members I would like to thank you for your attendance and input to the meetings and your effort in this a difficult season.

To Chris Brown, our President I think he has put a great deal of time in for little result, thanks Brownie.

To those members who are rejoining it will be a difficult season but with good recruitment and effort by all to pull together we can bring Southy back to the top of the hill where it should be.

Tony Haven, Secretary.

CAPTAINS REPORT

The 1993/94 season was a very poor one for South Narrabeen with only a handful of members fulfilling their commitment regarding patrols, to those members, THANK YOU, to those who did not they had better reassess their priorities before they join next season.

To those Long Service members who helped patrol last season it was greatly appreciated.

A few of the Lifeguards seem to have th wrong outlook towards the volunteers. They think that they are there to "spy" on them not to work as a team patrolling the beaches.

To the gear steward, Richard Dunn and the IRB Captain, Rob Southwood a job well done fellas, the equipment was always Al,

To our competitors this season , the Junior Boat Crew and Stephen flown, keep trying you are representing your Club.

A Club can't run without gaining additional Bronze members, to Adrian Finlay and Chris Sheehan, a great job in training.

Next season we must drag ourselves off the deck and forge ahead.

I would like to thank Jeff Fordham for his effort in running the Rotary car Raffle.

TREASURERS REPORT

Like most modern day volunteer organisations the two biggest problems always seem to be money and mcmbers. South Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club has had a difficult year attracting sufficient funding in order to satisfy the needs and wishes of present members, let alone attracting new members.

The year commenced with very little funds in hand and it was a struggle just to pay , our overhead expenses. The small band of enthusiastic members worked very hard at fundraising activities and were most successful, considering numbers. Once again a big effort paid off with the Rotary Raffle and before Christmas we were able to bank $2,284 from this source.

Warringah Shire Council increased their grant this year by $ 1,8(X) mu S4,8(() and these funds provided a positive boost to our position and enabled the Club to purchase essential rescue gear. We spent $6,500 on rescue gear during the year demonstrating our commitment to serving the public. In addition, further expenditure of $2,700 on maintaining our IRB and motors enabled the Club to maintain the standards set down by our parent body. We acknowledge the very kind donation of one outboard motor this year by Kevin Monnock Marine from Mona Vale.

The Committee directed that all social functions/fundraising be accounted for in a separate social account and this new account was commenced on 1/11/93. This new format provides all members with a much clearer picture of our Club/Social finances and enables us to monitor more accurately the income/outgo/profit position of various activities. It is understood that this years social activities money will go towards the purchase of a new motor for our [RB to provide greater reliability.

Upon examination of the financial accounts it will be apparent that we do have a lot of fixed overhead expenses and it takes a mighty effort on the part of all members to assist in raising sufficient funds. I thank all members, donors and supporters for the improved financial position that will take us upward and onward into the next surfing season.

CHWF INSTRUCTORS REPORT

The 1993194 season was quite successful as far as gaining awards. There were 9 in all, 5 Bronze Medallions, 4 Life Saving Certificate and 1 IRB Drivers Licence.

To Adrian Finlay, Chris Sheehan, Doug Sewell and Stewart Black we must congratulate them on the excellent job they have done instructing the squads.

BOAT CAPTAINS REPORT

What started out ass a good season for the 'Boaties went wrong. The crews that started training were an "A" Crew, Colts and a Junior Crew with only the junior crew appearing at a carnival. To those members Adrian Finlay, Simon Healey, Tim Smith and Chris Sheehan, thanks fellas for the effort, if you keep going there could be a future for you.

IRB CAPTAINS REPORT

This season we started off with two new motors and one good hull and having the second hull repaired towards the end of the season.

We need more members to gain their licenses.

The maintenance costs have been down this season due to having two new motors.

TEAM MANAGERS REPORT

The 1993/94 Season has come and gone, it seemed to pass even faster than the last.

Unfortunately, as far as competition is concerned, South Narrabeen was very inactive. I found this very disappointing as we have a number of capable people in Cadets, Juniors and Seniors, if only they would give it a go.

The boat crew had their share of troubles this Season with injuries, lack of crew members and towers not being Proficient. The Juniors managed to compete in two carnivals and just missed Out on getting into the finals at the Branch Carnival, a real good effort guys.

The Club invested in two single skis and one double ski this season in a hope of having competitors in the water. Two members have been training on the single skis with some help from Tony Wilson from Mona Vale Surf Club, so the 1994/95 Season might be more fruitful. We still have a good double ski that needs paddlers for next season, have a think about it.

We managed to have one competitor on the beach this season, competing in the flags and sprints, Shaun Jenkins. Even though he felt a little lonely out there being the only orange cap on the beach, he persisted, Congratulations Shaun.

The Club needs the support of its members and having competitors on the beach certainly helps. Last season at the South Curl Curl Carnival I was told by a number of competitors from various Clubs, that they thought that South Narrabeen had folded. Having a number of competitors in a number of different events at carnivals all through the season would put a stop to such rumours and strengthen the Club, (your Club). Come on members, put some thought to it over winter and put your name on the competitors list next season. Do yourself a favour and give it a go, you don't have to be a champion.

Congratulations to all those competitors that did have a go this season, your Club does appreciate it.

Doug Sewell.

JUNIOR ACTIVITIES CHAIRPERSONS REPORT

Another Season has slipped by into History. It was a mixed year for South Narrabeen with lousy surf conditions delaying our progress with S badges and certificates as well as the water events for our Club Championships.

We had some success at Carnivals with two bronze medals at the Branch Carnival and, for the first time, we had competitors at the State Titles at Bellambi Beach, Four children also attended a development camp at Collaroy Beach.

The highlight of the year for me was our Under 14 Girls gaining their Surf Life Saving Certificates. Congratulations to Kelly Smythe, Melissa Edwards, Michelle van den Bosch, Anne Sewell and Rowena Bailie. A special thanks to Doug Sewell who gave so much of his time and energy towards their training.

At the beginning of the Season we changed our Club costume from black to orange (which was in keeping with the Club's colours). They looked great and stood out at carnivals. We also purchased four new Nipper boards. Two were paid for by the Club and the other two were purchased from the proceeds from Friday night raffles at the Time & Tide Hotel. Thanks to Glenn Edwards for organising and running the raffles throughout the Season.

A big thank you to the Moms and Dads who put in their time and effort every Sunday into running events, etc on the beach. I guess your tireless work goes largely unrecognised and unappreciated by the majority of parents who just sit on their hands when volunteers are needed, or don't even bother to come down at all. If it was not for you, junior sports would not exist.

Congratulations to Mark Lawrie on taking over as Nipper Chairperson. You have the nucleus of a good Committee and hopefully more parents will come forward and lend their support for the Season.

Stewart Black Chairperson Junior Activities.

SOCIAL REPORT

South Narrabeen has had a very lean year socially this time around. Most members have so many other social activities that the Surf Club fell by the wayside, but we coped with that.

Our main social function was Grand Final Day/Registration Day BBQ. The day kicked off at 9am with a progression of members all day. By BBQ time we had around 50 in attendance which was a real show of that Southy spirit. Other than the BBQ and watching the game we had doubles and raffles. The whole day was a complete success and a good time was had by all.

Sunday bar operated once again this season and turned out to be quite a money spinner. This was due to the support of a regular group of patrons who saw it out to the end. Thank you guys, you know who you are. We were hoping to bring back the famous South Narrabeen Sunday Night BBQ but most people were happy with drinks and didn't worry too much about food, so the BBQ was put on hold except for a couple of impromptu ones.

Easter saw the finish of Sunday Bar for the 1993/94 season - 'We will be back' next season. A good time was had by all and proved to be a great night - Southy Motto "Eat, Drink and be Merry'.

Even the children and Junior members had a good season socially. Every week some one would bring a cricket bat and ball down and the cricket pitch was set up. Most of the children joined in some how and even some adventurous adults.

Thanks for a good Season and hope to see you all back next Season.
