Otago School of Art Secondary School Celebrate

Art Awards 2018

The annual Celebrate Art 2018 Awards Exhibition has

been on at the School of Art in Dunedin for the last two

weeks. This year we had 10 of our Year 13 selected to

be a part of this exhibition. Congratulations to all the

students who had their artwork on display. Calisa

McLeary received an Excellence Award.

Congratulations to Calisa this is a very commendable

achivement to receive an Excellence Award two years

in a row. Calisa received an Excellence Award last year

at the Celebrate Art 2017 Art Awards too.

Boys’ Football Saturday competition drew to a close last Saturday for both of the SOHS teams, with both sides registering hand-some victories: * The Junior team defeated its Mornington opponent 4-0 to win its division's plate. The side absolutely command-ed possession of the ball and showed clear dominance in terms of fitness and physicality. The progress shown by this team over the course of the season was obvious and Coach Dave (Hunter) can be very proud of how far he has brought the lads. A huge thank you to Dave for his outstanding input this year, and to Matt Hamilton for his skilful management of the side. * The Youth team went one goal better in its cup final, beating Melchester Rovers 5-0. Whilst Melchester passed the ball around the park in a fluent manner, they were never really able to gain access to the penalty box and had limited chances. The SOHS boys, by contrast, were able to find gaps in the Melchester defence, and took ad-vantage of the opportunities presented to them. After being denied the league title, it was great to see Coach Mar-cus Pettitt and the lads finish the season in winning style. I would like to thank Marcus for leading the boys through this season, and to Nyree Dickie for performing the manager role so well. Elliott Carroll

Rugby

Well done to the U15 team who defeated Waitaki Boys U15 - 42 points to 5 last weekend in Dunedin. They are

now all ready for their tournament in Queenstown which starts on Monday. We have been drawn up against Ger-

aldine, Lincoln and Roncali. I will be posting results on the rugby Facebook page after each of the games.

Well done to the following players who have been selected for the U16 Country Team to play in the tournament in

Nelson on 4 - 6 October. Caiden Davidson, Jack Dent, Zayde Francis (Toko), Jared Hayes (Toko), Kael Merrett,

Dallas Kupa-Pickering, Liam Sell and Kobe Thomson

Congratulations also to the following players who have been nominated by your coaches for 'Player of the Year'.

Please come along to the Clinton Rugby Club, tonight at 7.00pm.

It is great to see two of our recent South Otago High School players representing both Otago and Southland. Matt

Whaanga is starting in the number 12 Jersey for Otago this weekend, while Rory Van Vugt has been named in the

Southland Stags. Both players made it onto the field last weekend.

All the best to our Tournament teams for next week. - Senior A Netball (Dunedin) - 1st XI Boys Football (Invercargill) - 1st XI Girls Football (Dunedin) - Under 15 Rugby (Queenstown) - 1st XI Boys Hockey (Greymouth) - Under 15 Girls Rugby(Gore) one day tournament. Pam Hannah Sports Coordinator

Hockey 2018 has been another excellent year for hockey at South Otago High School. As the regular season comes to a close, the first XI prepare to head to Greymouth for tournament next week and many students continue to play in the indoor competition at the Recreation Centre. On Tuesday night a fun night saw a couple of friendly games as the firsts played the seconds in their last hit out before tournament and the third team had a hard fought game against their parents and siblings. Thanks to the coaches (Donna Hayes, Simon Cullen, Andrew Budge and Kelvin Maaka) for training these play-ers up and bringing our teams together through fun training sessions. Thanks to the managers (Rhiane Smith, Jo Bennett and Sandra Watt) for getting everything in line and sorted each week. And thanks to the parents for their support and work through the season to organise and motivate, drive and support our awesome group of players. Good luck to our leavers and I look forward to seeing everyone else back for another great season in 2019. Rod Deverson TIC Hockey

Boys’ Basketball Boys Basketball 2018 has ended with victory for both the Junior Boys and Senior Boys Teams B Division. Jun-ior Boys were undefeated throughout the season, though all the games were tough and each player developed along the way. Kudos to the players and the coach, Mr Li, and our gratitude to parents for support, pizza, cheer-ing for all the boys, and help with transport, especially through the cold and dicey winter nights. SENIOR EXAM TIMETABLE 2018 – Full Exam Timetable

Exam information

Mr Scarth will call students into the Hall before the exam starts so students need to be at the front of the school 15

minutes before their exam starts.

Students need to have their calculators, pens, pencils and other materials in a clear plastic bag.

No mobile or electronic devices are allowed into the Hall so students need to think about the devices they bring to

school.

There will be exam clashes or other issues with the timing of exams. Students are to see Ms Smith in the library at

tutor time on Monday to make alternative arrangements. There is a time for catch ups on Thursday afternoon and

Friday morning, or we may use an alternative time.

These exams are practice exams for NCEA at the end of the year and the same rules will be followed to provide re-

alistic preparation.

Year 11 students are expected to attend regular classes, except when they have an exam. Year 12 and 13 students are

only to attend school when they have an exam or allocated work time.

There are a number of timetabled workshops for internal and practical based subjects we strongly encourage you to

go to. If these clash with an exam you are to attend the exam.
