Our Combined meeting of the North Texas 

Dealers and the South chapter went off very well; we filled up the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant in Waco opting to be seated inside to keep cool. I did not take a head count, but would guess up to 40 folks enjoyed the day to‐gether.  I counted about 8 Hudson cars attending. Calvin Buchanan Showed up in a very nice 54 Holly‐wood and Lew bird in his tan coup. These were cars new to me and both are very good looking well restored examples of Hudsoning at its best. I mention only these two as I had never seen them before!! This was a fine showing of most all of the state of Texas. We collectively might discount the effort of our two clubs to Authenti‐cate the Hudson name plate but it crossed my mind as many strangers came out of the wood work to look over all these cars and that they are most notably a fine showing of all the state of Texas… Thanks to everyone who took part.  Do to the nature of a combined chapter meet‐ing, dispensed formal meeting protocol was sus‐pended with a relaxed , opening up of a discus‐sion around the subject of the South Chapter to host the up‐coming regional of the Big Country in 2016. It was confirmed from past approval of the South Chapters voting to host this event and the Dealers expressed a desire to help and aid us in this endeavor. The floor was turned over to Don Mozynski, he asked me to just call him Don, Ha!, and he handed out a proposed pro‐gram to get the ball started. This is what we will be working on in the future. I ask that all mem‐bers of the North and South Chapter please E‐mail me with any ideas or concerns pertaining to this end. I vow to respond in kind.  We are a small chapter in membership, BUT we have many talented people to make this hap‐pen..          Rodney

 The morning of Saturday June 21st broke with overcast but non threatening clouds.  This was the day of 

our second joint Hudson meeting in Waco, Texas.  The North and South Texas Chapters were again converging on the Quaker Steak and Lube there to share our common inter‐est in Hudsons and the friendships we have with one another.   The morning weather forecast continued throughout the day keeping the temperatures at bay and providing a light breeze for the participants.  I was the first to arrive and while asking the manager to place protective parking cones on a reserved parking area, Mark Brians arrived and as he parked President Rodney pulled into the parking spots.  The group slowly grew and be‐fore lunch all had an hour or more to share Hudsoning and inspect the cars parked in the front of the restaurant.  By 11:30, the last of those who were to attend the meet had ar‐

rived and we retired to the QS&L interior meeting room for a from the menu lunch. After a leisurely lunch, Rodney Lemmon rose to welcome all who came to the meet.  He thanked the North Texas mem‐bers for making the trip and welcomed them to join us again next year.  He then recognized Don Mo‐zynski, Big Country Director to address the chapters.  Don’s discussion topic was hosting the 2016 Big Country Regional meeting.  At the beginning of his discussion, a hand out was provided to the mem‐bers.  The handout was a draft outline of topics relevant to the hosting of this HET regional meeting.  He went on to note he and the two other directors of the region had met to discuss this upcoming event during the recent 2014 Big Country Regional meeting.  That discussion reaffirmed a need to offi‐cially request the SOUTH TEXAS CHAPTER host the 2016 Big Country Regional meet.  Rodney Lemmon, president of the South Texas chapter rose to let those gathered know that the South Texas Chapter had previously addressed this question and after a membership vote had agreed to act as the host chapter.  But, that no further planning action has been taken since the vote. He told the group that the content of these discussions would be pre‐sented to the South Texas membership at the next planned meeting July 5th in Manor Texas.  In clos‐ing Director Mozynski and President Lemmon asked North Texas Chapter membership to partici‐pate as mentors and if necessary fiscal backers for this meet.  Those present felt this would be agree‐able to their respective chapter memberships.  At this time Roberta Dennis volunteered to perform the registration duties for the regional.  Her offer was accepted by those present by acclimation.  Rodney and Calvin Buchannan, presidents of the two chapters will coordinate with Don Mozynski to identify a south Texas location and date for the 2016 Big Country Regional Meeting.  John Clement rose and asked for a moment of silence and recognition for Dick Bell, who was one of the first Big Country Direc‐tors.  Dick Bell died suddenly on Tuesday, June 17th.  John passed a condolence card among the mem‐bers for signature and then posting to Rita Bell.  The unofficial tally for members attending was 25 and ten guests for a total of 35. The final Hudson car count was eight and the accompanying pictures will provide a view of each. Ken Cates rose to thank all who attended and requested that all consider at‐tending again in 2015.  All retired to the parking lot to say goodbyes.

Chapter Chatter: Chapter Chatter: South Texas Chapter is now on FacebookSouth Texas Chapter is now on Facebook                                                       Mark Brians:  A very busy fella indeed.  Mark hosted the Studebakers Drivers Club tour in Waco Texas. His group also chose the Quaker Steak and Lube for their  destination.  Yolanda and I were invited guests for an enjoyable time with our Studebaker friends.  Mark and Lorraine are headed for the east cost to attend the Studebaker Na‐tionals in Delaware.  I heard a rumor that there is also a trip aboard a ship in their future… have to ask then about the destination.  Joe Clark & Karen Clark : were busy this month, they attended the Big Country Regional Meet held in Ponca City during the first week of June.  They brought their 54 Jet Liner and graciously shared it with Yolanda and Ken during the meet.  Don Brown:  The journey of restoration and updating his Hudson appear to have met a goal of reliable drivability. Don shared a history of his journey that will be submitted for inclusion in the WTN..     Jerry Potter:  sent regrets for the joint meet… hoping to see him soon.  Rick and Barbara Heeke  Spent the weekend in Kansas.  Not their choice, one of the axels on their car trailer required repair so the planned three day trip was stretched a few days waiting for repair parts. Why Kansas?  Rick bought Hudson Pickup and went to fetch it home. 

 Mark and Sandy Campbell—were on vacation in Arkansas over the weekend of our joint meet.  Rumor has it that Mark had ulte‐rior motives, he found a nearby Hudson stash to visit.  Steve Brookins:  got stuck in St Louis the night before our meet.  We hope that making a living does not interfere again  with the fun of Hudsoning!   Missed you Steve.  Ken Cates:  Yolanda and Ken became grandparents again on June  25, Jonah David Cates , Mom Anne and new Dad Jacob are all do‐ing well.   The month has been full  of special activities and oppor‐tunities to share with our friend s and family.  As stated earlier, we 

also attended the 2014 Big Country Regional in Ponca city.  The weather being iffy we opted to drive up in our  brand X.  While there Joe and Karen Clarke assured we toured in style as Ken got to ride in a Jet for the first time since high school days when I owned a 53 Jet 4door.    Great Race 2014— 1916 Speedsters

Hudson owners sharing  parts interchange information   Hi Ken, I found what are supposed to be correct shocks for step down Hudsons, available at O'Reilly Auto Parts or from Amazon (cheaper).  Fronts are Monroe 5751 and rears are Monroe 31094. I have them in hand and hope to install them early next week. I'll let you know if they fit and how they ride. Per the boxes, they're all gas‐charged. Total cost is under a hundred bucks. —John  Clement

Weather down here in South Texas gave us a fine day for our February meeting in Bastrop. Dry roads and no need of a heater at all. Our chapter members look forward to five more Hudson cars to soon be back on the roads of our Chapter area. Don Brown is in the final stages of his rebuild, Paul Thomas has just started the process of rebuilding his engine and Jerry Potter most likely will drive his 40 Hudson to our next meeting in Thorndale @ the Downtown café. Oh, and Mark Campbell has his Hornet coupe in his paint booth hoping to compete that task and drive it to the Sweet Hearts and Orphans meeting. Thanks goes out to Joe Clark for the February meeting location which gave us a good room to have a very inclusive meeting.  Also, let me not forget to mention Joe has got his Jet engine and tranny completed and installed in his Jet making it five cars back on our South Texas roads soon! I find it amusing as Jay Leno is retiring from the tonight show; it appears he is using his Hudson to collect his property from his of‐fice and head home.  Jay is a true car guy and an inspiration to all Hudson persons, Ha! There appears to be much interesting Hudson related news abounding across the country which only makes me pleased to have picked a Hudson as my old car driver.  It just seems that as time marches forward Hudson’s will continue to be one of the American icons of the auto world. Considering how many has been used up due to its desirability for use on tracks and strips, cabs, cop cars and rum runners.  It is kind of surprising the number of survivors still around. This fact might be one reason they continue to be restored; maintained as prized autos?  We all know how difficult it is to part with  our hard earned money to keep are cars up, knowing we are just care takers for the next generation.  Personally and collectively, as time rolls on, that next care giver will be glad there is a Hudson club that promoted this endeavor.  I want to thank all members for keeping me inspired to keep working on my Hudson and all of the good information they share with me every time we get together. Hope to see as many members as possible come March 1st.

BIG COUNTRY REGIONAL MEETING 2016  

June 25, 2014  Members of the South Texas Chapter:  The South Texas Chapter of the HET Club has been asked to host the Big Country Regional Meeting during 2016.  Big Country Directors initially asked our chapter to consider hosting this event during 2013.  This request was brought before the members in attendance during a late summer meeting in 2013 and a motion to accept the request was presented, seconded and affirmed by a vote of the members present.   This affirmation was com‐municated to Don Mozynski, then Senior Big Country Director.  With this affirmation Don communicated to the other directors our South Texas Chapter would hold the meeting.  As a matter of formality and recognition that time and circumstances might change our decision, a second approach to the chapter was made during the 2014 Big Country Regional held the first week of June 2014.  All Big Country Directors were present and asked Ken Cates and Joe Clark if the South Texas Chapter was still willing to host the meeting.  They restated to those Directors that the chapter had voted to host the 2016 Big Country Regional.   As the two chapters were scheduled to have a joint meet in Waco, Texas on 21 June 2014, Don offered to readdress the issues at that meeting.  This was done during that meeting and a solicitation to the North Texas Chapter was made and accepted to provide mentoring and manpower if needed.    The discussion included a suggestion that the hosting process be lead by the presidents and meet coordinators of the two chapters.  This suggestion was adopted and Rodney Lemmon, South Texas Chapter President and Joe Clark, South Texas Chapter meet coor‐dinator would take the lead position and coordinate those actions with Calvin Buchannan, North Texas Chap‐ter President and Mike Harrell  North Texas Chapter Vice President.  Members of the SOUTH TEXAS CHAPTER are the integral element required to conduct a successful BIG COUN‐TRY REGIONAL.  I solicit each and every one of you to rally round the task at hand.  Your participation is and will be essential to create a true TEXAS welcome to all the HET members who will attend the 2016 BIG COUN‐TRY REGIONAL.  Please step up to the task and offer your personal time and talent.  This investment will be the TREASURE we will then offer to our friends and neighbors with in this BIG COUNTRY HET REGION.  Respectfully yours,
