This week has been a very memorable one for the school student leaders. On Tuesday the School Captains Zac and Grace represented South Wagga at their first official funcon when they aended the re-lighng of the Eternal Flame at the Victory Memorial Gardens. The behaviour and respect shown at the ceremony by Zac and Grace was exemplary and I was very proud to be there with them. Following the ceremony they had morning tea with the Mayor Mr Rod Kendall and a number of the representaves from the R.S.L. On Tuesday aſternoon the School Captains along with the 2015 Student Leaders were presented with their badges of office by two ex students, Joel Crakanthorp and Emily Cox, at the 2015 Foundaon Day Assembly. Joel and Emily spoke in glowing terms about their learning and the friends that they made during their me at South Wagga Public School. The deep admiraon and respect that they have for the staff at South Wagga was very evident in both of their speeches. I would like to thank Mrs Cooper for her efforts in organising the Foundaon Day Assembly once again in 2015. Today the students took part in Clean Up Australia Day both inside the school grounds and in the surrounding streets. It is very good to see the students and staff taking the opportunity to parcipate in the Australian wide community acvity. I know that Mahek Jain in 3/4C was so impressed with the idea and acons of Clean Up Australia that she wrote to the Prime Minister of India suggesng that the Indian Government looks at introducing something similar. Next Thursday, Amber Lawrence will be back at South Wagga to perform at our weekly assembly. Amber was at South Wagga last year and as well as singing for the students she spoke of her desire, self belief and perseverance to become a performer. Hopefully, she will have her Golden Guitar that she won at Tamworth this year with her. Empathy and Listening Empathy and

Listening is paying

attention to other

people’s ideas and

listening attentively.

3/4L began an inquiry

learning activity about

the First Fleet by doing

a Think Pair Share.

After individual

thinking time, you

need empathy and

listening skills when

working in pairs and

small groups.

This week our kindergarten and Year 4 students participated in the Bus Safety program which is organised by NRMA. This program works in conjunction with the curriculum to raise the important issue of the bus safety. The sessions were presented by a representative from NRMA, a police officer and a bus driver. The program concluded with a short bus trip around Wagga. Kindergarten discussed what is appropriate conduct on the bus and what to do while waiting for the bus to stop. Year 4 discussed bus safety with a focus by Constable Tim on the use of phones, ipods etc and the implications of taking “selfies” in their school uniforms. We had lots of chatter about cyber safety, bullying and stranger danger.

Fred Hollows Charity Event Sunny (Yr 2) & Coco’s (Kinder) mum has joined 3 local women to walk 55km, to raise money for the Australian-based charity, The Fred Hollows Foundation. This event is a coastal trek from Palm Beach to Balmoral on 6th March, 2015. Local business, Zacharia & Naumann optometrists are the team’s main sponsor. The team is called Step by Step & aim to raise over $2000. This money helps to end blindness for people in local and in international communities. Four out of five people who are blind do not need to be and it only costs $25 to completely restore someone’s sight. Amazing! The team is training hard and ready for the 55km challenge. If you are interested in the team’s progress, or would like to donate, you can find infor-mation on their Facebook page: search for Step by Step and Zacharia Naumann for the Fred Hollows Foundation. Donations can be made on the Coastal Trek page, just search coastrek.com.au and search for the team Step by Step.
