South West Long Term Care ConferenceLaingBuisson’s regional long term care conference brings together leading speakers and delegates from across the residential, domiciliary and extra care sectors to discuss the challenges and changing landscape faced by providers of care for older people away from the more affluent South East. In this way the event delivers highly focused conversation and debate which directly addresses the ways in which this volatile slice of healthcare is intrinsically linked to local economy and regional council practice.
Britain remains the only western economy without a strong regional policy, and despite the ‘one nation’ mantra of successive governments, the wealth gap between regions is widening with much debate seemingly unable to look further afield than the capital and the South East.
Budget cuts are impacting social care services throughout the country and with the axing of targeted funding, higher unemployment and lower house prices, councils outside of these narrow areas have been hard pushed to raise sufficient funds to keep services going. The ensuing freeze on fees is squeezing social care providers to the limit.
