Southern Riviera
On this journey you will be enthralled by Ceylon’s calm and captivating coastline and share intimate moments with
some of the island’s attractions.
Day 1 Airport – outskirts of Colombo: About 45 Minute Drive
The Wallawwa
Having arrived in Sri Lanka you will be greeted by both our Jetwing representative and your chauffeur guide at the
airport itself. Take a leisurely drive, just under forty five minutes into the quiet village of Kotugoda, where nestled
amongst three acres of manicured gardens is your boutique hotel. Relish your stay at this old colonial manor
house, which has been lovingly restored.
Day 2 Colombo – Cultural Traingle: About 4.5 Hours Drive
Ulagalla Resort

www.jetwingtravels.com
Set off from coastal Colombo to experience the inland delights of Sri Lanka. Enjoy lunch at a delightful local
restaurant en-route. Arrive at the boutique hotel Ulagalla Resort, set amidst a village near the ancient kingdom of
Anuradhapura and resting beside the lush landscape of the Ulagalla Wewa - Ulagalla lake. Find a home away from
home in your very own chalet with a private plunge pool.
Having freshened up, take a brief evening tour of the ancient city of Anuradhapura to learn about ancient Ceylon’s
turbulent past. It was the first capital and undoubtedly the grandest city of ancient Sri Lanka. Today Anuradhapura
is the location of two world heritage sites. There is an archaeological museum, artificial lakes and various monastic
buildings and palaces. Amongst the many sites of interest is the sacred Bo Tree, Sri Maha Bodhi. The tree is
reputedly a cutting of the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment, and was brought to Sri Lanka as a
sapling over 2,200 years ago.
Return to your chalet and unwind before dinner.
Day 3 Cultural Triangle – Hills of Pussellawa: About 4 Hours Drive
Lavender House
Head out towards Pussellawa, Sri Lanka's tea growing area and en-route mount the rock fortress of Sigiriya -
"Fortress in the Sky". This is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the island. It is also referred to as Lion’s
Rock because of the huge crouching lion image that is carved at the entrance to the fortress. Don’t forget to view
the fresco paintings at the ancient Sigiriya Lion’s Rock fortress and take a deep breath as you enjoy the splendid
view on top. Sigiriya is a well known icon for its toadstool of golden-hued granite, protruding into the searing blue
sky from a hot, flat wilderness of scrubland, which is transformed in the rainy season to a water garden. In the 5th
century King Kashyapa domesticated the Lions Rock, by building a palace atop its summit. Hence you will find that
Sigiriya commemorates some of the turbulence of Sri Lanka’s history.
Continue on the drive towards the hills of Pussellawa and relish the endless views of tea carpeted valleys and the
bright flash of female "tea pluckers" in their pimento, fuchsia and cerise saris. Find yourself surrounded by a

working tea plantation at a resorted planter’s bungalow of the name Lavender House where each suite has been
delicately designed. The flower garden, log fires and home grown vegetables add together to make up a cosy
private home.
Day 4 Hills of Pussellawa – Yala: About 8 Hours Drive
Luxury Camping in Yala National Park
From the hills of Pussellawa descend over six hours to reach the Yala jungles. Enroute admire one of Sri Lanka's
finest views and visit the Rawana Ella Falls. The dramatic Rawana Ella Falls are 49 metres high and follow the
water cascading down the mountainside in a series of mini waterfalls.
Having arrived at Yala, you will learn that the game park is famous for the elusive leopard and has one of the
highest densities of leopards in the world. The sloth bear and Asian elephant are also part of Sri Lanka’s Big Five
can be spotted. Having said that, Yala has much more to share – wild bears, peacocks, wild buffalo, sambar and
spotted deer. In addition, up to 130 species of birds have been recorded at Yala, many migratory, including the
white winged black tern, curlews and pintails. Indigenous species include jungle fowl, hornbills and orioles. With
luck you will witness all these creatures over an evening jeep safari with a naturalist guide.
You night’s residence at the exclusive and en-suite luxury camping is set up within wild of the Yala National Park
and offers an all-inclusive service. Even though it is lantern light, there is an electricity supply to recharge your
laptop, mobile or camera. The hearty campfire BBQ dinner sets the precedent for an eventful day to come.

Kahanda Kanda
Wake just before dawn for your chance to take a leopard safari upon superior four-wheel drive jeeps. Why not
enjoy your breakfast in the midst of the Yala jungles itself.
Continue on your journey and head to the artistic town of Galle. On the way watch the waves embrace the palm
fringed coastline. We recommend enjoying lunch upon the soft sands of Tangalle at the Amanwella Resort. Later
on during the drive do look out for a curious feature - the stilt fishermen of Weligama who carefully balance
themselves before casting their fishing lines.
Arrive at the boutique hotel Kahanda Kanda bordered by a steam and a working tea plantation, yet near the coast.
This property was inspired by the open pavilion and courtyard architecture of the colonial powers. The soothing
aura of the property will allow you to unwind in harmony.

was first built by the Portuguese and then destroyed after Dutch conquered the town of Galle before building one of
their own. Take a walking tour along the cobbled pathways to hear tales of the colonial era and look out for the old
Dutch Church as well as the bastions.
Day 7 Galle - Bentota: About 3 Hours Drive
Saman Villa
