Botox therapy has many uses in dentistry. Your California dental license already permits you to treat various dental related conditions by injecting botulinum toxin (Botox). This course will cover the uses and instructions for botulinum toxins, their history, dosage preparation and injection techniques for a variety of dental related procedures. These include: TMJ pain and muscle spasms, bruxation therapy, lip and masseter muscle contour and treatment of associated migraines. Informed consent and the risks, benefits and alternatives (RBAs) will also be included in this course.
Andrew Blumenfeld, MD, is a neurologist and the director of the Headache Center of Southern California, located in San Diego. He is the Co-director of the Sleep Center of Southern California and a partner in the Research Center of So. Calif. in Oceanside.
Dr. Blumenfeld is chair of the American Headache Soc. Special Section: Peripheral nerve block and other interventional procedures for headaches and facial pain. He served as Chief of Neurology at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego and was the chairman of the bioethics committee. Dr. Blumenfeld has published and taught the use of Botox to health care providers including dentists nationally and internationally and has been treating patients with Botox since 1990.

“New Technologies in the Surgical Placement of Dental Implants”

New Technologies such as cone-beam computer tomography and
3-dimensional dental implant treatment is rapidly leading to precision and accuracy in
the evaluation and placement of dental implants. A new generation of biomaterials is
also allowing surgeons to place implants in areas never before considered. Dr. Lozada
will describe the use of protocols associated with surgical implant placement, discuss

Dr. James Jesse graduated from Loma Linda University in Southern California in 1973. He has been in private practice in Colton, California for the past 31 years. He lectures nationally as well as internationally on numerous
techniques related to laser dentistry, bonding and composites, 3D imaging, cariology, cancer screening, high tech minimally invasive dentistry, digital radiography, general endodontics, and many other techniques and concepts
related to the practice of dentistry. In addition, Dr. Jesse is an associate Professor at Loma Linda, teaching Restorative Dentistry and he is an assistant Professor at Columbia University. In addition, he does extensive
research with pre-doctorate and graduate students. He also does Forensic Dentistry in San Diego County and is a Deputy Sheriff with San Bernardino County.
