The Mission of Southern Delaware School of the Arts is to facilitate student

learning and achievement through the arts.

Excellence in Academics through

the arts.

Arts program that supports excellence

in academics.

IRSD Code of Conduct

Attendance Policy

Your student will come home with a sign

off sheet that you have read these

policies.

O They are languages that all people speak that cut across racial, cultural, social, educational, and economic barriers and enhance cultural appreciation and awareness.

O They are symbol systems as important as letters and numbers.

O They provide opportunities for self-expression, bringing the inner world into the outer world of concrete reality.

O They create a seamless connection between motivation, instruction, assessment, and practical application-leading to deep understanding.

O They are an opportunity to experience processes from beginning to end.

O They develop both independence and collaboration.

O They provide immediate feedback and opportunities for reflection.

O They make it possible to use personal strengths in meaningful ways and to bridge into understanding sometimes difficult abstractions through these strengths.

O They improve academic achievement - enhancing test scores, attitudes, social skills, critical and creative thinking.

O They exercise and develop higher order thinking skills including analysis, synthesis, evaluation, and "problem-finding.“

O They provide the means for every student to learn.

grades are

responsible for

arriving at class

on time, and if

late they are

responsible for

making up work

Please be mindful

of tardies,

absences, and trip

forms…

If your child is not

at school, we

cannot help them

succeed.

Students must

participate in

rehearsals to be

considered for

stage time.

Being on time and present for school is incredibly

important:

The importance of education: Your commitment to school

attendance sends a message to your child that education is a

priority for your family, going to school every day is a critical part

of educational success, and that it's important to take your

responsibilities seriously including going to school and being

prepared.

Achievement: Students who attend school regularly are more

likely to pass reading and math assessments. There is also a

strong correlation to future success.

Exposure to the content: Whether the subject is science,

reading, or drama, a student who is at school is able to

participate which increases the likelihood of long term

understanding.

Being part of the school community: Just by being present

at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen. Here at

school they are constantly learning to be part of a team.

Please be

mindful of

driving

slowly in our

parking lot

Some notes from the Nurse

student’s normal dismissal routine must be made

in writing. **

phone. Please be sure your pick-up person comes

to school with identification.

no bus passes

being issued

for alternate

drop off sites

behavioral expectations apply. Riding the school bus

SDSA’S PTO O Please consider becoming involved with the school’s Parent Teacher

Organization. Volunteers are needed, and all are welcome!

O We have recently approved $10,000 worth of technology, including iPads, Chromebooks and SMARTboards. In addition, the PTO has approved the funding for new stage lighting, and purchased the new sound system we have enjoyed this past year.

O Last year our PTO was able to raise $35,776 for the students through fundraisers such as Yankee Candle Sales, Spirit Wear, Winter Festival, The Gala, Coin Wars and many others!

O Some recent changes have been made to help accommodate working families. PTO Meetings will now be held at 6 pm instead of 5 pm on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Please see the calendar that will be coming home with your child regarding meetings.

SDSA’S PTO O If you can not make it to meetings, but want to volunteer in other

ways, there are many opportunities!

O Keep up to date with the PTO on Facebook. www.facebook.com/SouthernDelawareSchoolOfTheArtsPto

O Our first PTO Meeting is on September 19th at 6 pm in the SDSA Library. We hope to see you there!

O Volunteers are needed for the first Parent Teacher Conference on October 2. The PTO provides dinner and drinks for the teachers during this time. Please contact Beth at [email protected] to sign up!
