SOUTHERN QUEENSLAND CORRECTIONAL PRECINCT (GATTON) NEXT STEPS Complete Detailed Business Case PROPOSAL NEED The objecve of the proposal is to improve safety and reduce pressure on exisng facilies across the prison system. This proposal is invesgang the construcon of Stage 2 of the Southern Queensland Correconal Precinct near Gaon to provide a new 1,004 cell, high- security facility for male prisoners to address growth in demand for correconal facilies in the medium term (3-5 years). Expansion of the Southern Queensland Correconal Precinct has been invesgated as there is already a Master Plan for a larger facility at this site that could also help to relieve capacity constraints at other facilies in southern Queensland. Aſter a period of high growth in the prisoner populaon, the capacity of the state's male high-security facilies is constrained.
