An open volunteer opportunity to gather at the Southold Elementary School’s Commu-nity Garden for planting, weeding, and har-vesting. On Thursday, August 8 at 5 pm, all volunteers are welcome to enjoy a “Veggie Feast” at Southold Library to celebrate our garden work.

The Friends Book Cottage is open for sales and donations

Saturdays 10 am-3 pm andWednesdays 11 am-3 pm. The

proceeds from book sales benefit the library throughout the year

including the Summer Programs.

Summer Reading Clubs2 ½ to Grade 5 in September

Receive your bag of fun stuff and an invitation to the Summer Reading Club’s Kick Off Celebration, “Monkey Monkey Music Outdoor Concert” at Sil-versmith’s Corner Tuesday, July 9 from 6-6:45 pm.

Little DiggersAges 2 ½ to entering Kindergarten in September.

Adults and children read at least 20 books together and record the titles on your reading record. For every 5 books completed, earn a prize. Complete and hand in your reading

record by Thursday, August 8 and come to our final celebration, an outdoor Nature Craft Fair on Friday, August 9 from 5-7 pm!

Sprouts: Reading on My OwnYoungsters entering grades 1-5 in September.No minimum number of books to read. Stop in the Library and update your reading record. For every 5 books completed, earn a prize. Readers have the option to keep track of TIME SPENT READING instead of the number of books read(see Miss Dana for details). Complete and hand in your reading record by Thursday, August 8 and come to our final celebra-tion, an outdoor Nature Craft Fair on Friday, August 9 from 5-7 pm!

Teen Reading ProgramGrades 6-12 in September

Teens! Kick-off your summer beginningMonday, June 24.

Register and receive a summer sport pack filled with Bingo sheets, booklists and more.

On each Bingo sheet, follow the instructions on each square; complete a row for 1 raffle, complete 2 rows for 2 raffles and fill all squares for 4 raffles! Prize drawings will be held on July 12 and 26. On Friday August 9 all raffle tickets will be submit-ted for the Grand Prize! Please see Miss Penny for details.

Reading program ends with an outdoor Nature Craft Fair on Friday August 9 from 5-7 pm.

Our final summer program offers our own local craftsmen and women. Tables will be set up on the library’s lawn where kids can create with natural materials: beach art,

mosaics, nature prints, painting, etc. Enjoy a hot dog off the grill afterwards.This is a family friendly event that everyone will enjoy.

Seed Saving 101With Maureen RadiganMonday, July 8 3-4 pm Grades 1-3Did you know that you can save seeds from your garden plants and from local wild plants? Join in the fun as you create your own seed-saving box and envelopes. Sort seeds, label, and store them for planting next season. Learn about the life cycle of plants from seed to soil to plant, and to seed again.

Ceramic Watering Can Painting and PlantingWith Jack Weiskott of Ornamental PlantingsTuesday, July 9 10-11 am Grades 2-3We’ll meet Mr. Weiskott on the nursery site of Ornamental Plantings on Route 48 in Southold to see his greenhouse and discover how things grow. You’ll plant seeds and paint your own ceramic watering can planter to take home. Permission slip required.

recipe instead. We will learn how to make our stew from kitchen scraps and other edibles that you would normally throw away. Instructions for a home outdoor compost and an opportunity to
