WE NEED YOUR FAMILY PHOTO!!!

We are going to begin collecting family pictures to use for two pur-poses:

1. We are going to make a family photo gallery in the hallways in the adult bible class wing.2. We are going to create an online picture church directory.

In order to do that, here’s what we need:If you already have a family photo you would like for us to use, please email a copy of it to Alex Farris at [email protected]. We also need a framed print brought to the office that is a 5x7, 8x10, or 11x14 in size. If you don’t have a photo that you want us to use, please begin signing up in the Coffee Connections Hallway for a time slot. We will continue taking pictures on Sunday mornings through March 29th. If you have any questions, please ask Shane Sturdivant or Kristin Page.

Thank you in advance for your help inthis endeavor.

Sincerely,Southside Staff

Last Year’s Garden was a huge success!! Thank you to everyone who was a part of the setting up, planting, harvesting, and clean-up pro-cesses. We hope to do even more in 2015.

SYDNEY NEWSLETTER vol 1. 2020

The teens had a Great trip to Winterfest in Arlington TX last month. The event and the worship were great and the kids had a lot of fun at the Cowboys Stadium. We also go to serve with a local work called Mission Arlington a ministry that focuses on bring the good news of Christ to the many

apartment complexes in DFW. We got to play with about 50 kids in one of those apartment churches. The speakers at Winterfest have a special ability to challenge and encourage us and three of our teens made the decision to be baptized while we were there. We got to share those baptisms with our South-side Family last Sunday. If you haven’t seen the pictures check them out on Southside’s Facebook page, and give a hug and a prayer of support for Sara Grace Mayberry, Hank Noblin, and Rafael Gallardo when you get the chance. We are looking forward to more great things in anticipation of the Christeens youth Rally in Russell-ville AR on February 20-21. This event is on par with Winterfest in terms of Worship, Teachers, Speakers and facilities. The big bonus is that it is much closer. We’ll leave Friday the 20th at 5pm and return home Saturday night about 11. We’ll take the bus and stay at the Quality Inn. the cost is $50 plus $ for 4 meals. more info is on the registra-tion sheet which can be found outside Andy’s office or you can find a link in the last family at Southside email. Check out Christeens.org too if you want all the info.

What’s happening With Our teens? Here’s some stuff.

neW JOurneyland security prOcedurePlease, pay attention to this!

We are officially into our new year - 2015! There are exciting things ahead for us in the months to come! There are 2 important updates that might be helpful for our JourneyLand families to know. These 2 updates correlate to 2 goals we have for 2015 in JourneyLand. First, to continue making JourneyLand a safe and secure place for our children. Secondly, to better equip our families to take faith-development into the home.

Creating a more safe and secure JourneyLand. You may have noticed that we have a new check-in system that we have been implementing since January 1. This touch-screen check-in system allows you to check all of your children into their proper classes each week. It allows us real-time access to WHO is present, WHEN they are present, and WHERE they are. Phase 1 of this new check-in system was to make sure the check-in process could run smoothly. Phase 2 is to implement a rule that parents must present the parent receipt in order to pick up their child. That rule begins today! (Feb. 1, 2015). Now we officially have a full-scale security system in JourneyLand (a check-in system, and a check-out system). As Southside continues to grow and receive guests, it is imperative that this security system be in place and honored.

Better equipping families to take faith-development home. In January of 2015, we launched a cur-riculum that we wrote ourselves called, “The Big Picture.” Over the course of this year, your child(ren) will learn the Big Picture story of God from Creation to Redemption. The story comes in 6 “acts” (like a drama). Act 1 is Creation. Act 2 is the Fall. Act 3 is Israel. Act 4 is Jesus. Act 5 is the Church. Act 6 is Redemption. Each week, our children will learn a story that moves the Big Picture story forward toward God’s purposes for the world he created and loves. YOU CAN HELP! In fact, it is not the only the church’s job to provide spiritual guidance for your child(ren). It is the task of the church (and the mission of JourneyLand) to equip you and your child(ren) for a life of faith. We now have a “Parent Sta-tion” in the main hallway in JourneyLand where parents can pick up weekly “Discipleship in the Home” guides to go in their folders. These guides provide tips and ideas for continuing the education of your child(ren) each in your own homes! Please take advantage of this opportunity! Give it try!

Coming Soon …A Great Evening for Southside Seniors!February 20th is a date to mark on your calendar if you are 60 or older. We are planning a great evening for all of us who like getting together with friends, enjoying a great meal and being encouraged and uplifted. Because this date is very near Valentine’s Day, the theme of this Friday evening is “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”. Randal and Janis Rhoades are co-host with Pat and me for the evening and we are working diligently to make it a very special event. We plan to supply the meat and baked potato for the meal. You will find a food sign-up sheet on the bulletin board on the North end of the foyer at the rear of the auditorium. Salads, veggies and desserts will go great with this meal, so let everyone know what you plan to bring.

Although it will be hard to follow the performances of Tony Orlando (without Dawn) singing “Tie a Yellow Ribbon around the Old Oak Tree” and a memorable visit from Minnie Pearl, we are going to try hard. Is that a picture of Tony Orlando or Jimmy Moss?

We have been lucky to book “Olde Tyme Music Programs” with Frank and Shirley Pasteur. Their musicprogram is “interactive” with the audience and will

feature hit love songs from the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.They promise a ‘knock your socks off’ live performance and always

say that; “You have an unforgettable past ahead of you”.

This wonderful evening is planned as a gift to Southside Seniors. Being over 60 is a good time to realize that each day is a precious gift from God that is undeserved. The truth is, many come to expect gifts at special times like Christmas and Birthdays, but thinking you deserve a certain gift will diminishes your happiness with it …if it happens to not be exactly what you had hoped it would be. True gifts are unexpected. They are a generous show of thoughtfulness and love by the giver. Many at Southside are over the age of 60 and have never or seldom attended a dinner planned as a special gift in honor of them. A fun evening spent with other believers near your age group may become a treasurable gift that will go uncollected if you fail to make your plans to attend. “This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).
