The month of love, friendship, and being kind to all. We must always remember the little eyes and ears of our children are watching us and how we talk to people and treat people. They see the kind things we do and say to others whether we are at home, in a car, at a store, or at an event. We all are constantly teaching our children to be good people, and that is part of what February and loving others is all about. Winter has gotten a late start this year but please remember the children do continue to go outside, even if it’s snowy. As long as the temperature and wind chill are above zero the children continue to go outside every day. It is important for the children to get fresh air even if it is only for 10 minutes or so. It is also a Wisconsin State licensing Regulation that the children are outside for a little while each day. Please be sure and continue to bring your child’s snow pants, boots, hat, gloves, scarf, etc., to keep them warm and dry while they are outside. Your child’s schedule at Ebenezer Please help us by calling in to the center if your child/children will not be attending for the day. It is important to report absences in a timely manner. Please call before 10:00am to let us know if your child will not be attending for the day, or if they will be coming in later. This helps to make sure we are staffed appropriately for each day. Please also remember to talk to Kaye about any schedule changes that are needed for your child. Teachers are staffed based on the schedule you give us when you enroll your child, or on the survey’s we have you fill out in the fall for which hours they will be attending. New teacher We are happy to announce that we have hired a new teacher as a floater at Ebenezer Child Care Southside. Her name is Anahi and she will begin working with us on February 1st. Anahi will be starting out by getting to know all of the children in the center. Anahi will be learning the schedules and routines in all of the classrooms because as a floater she will be giving teachers breaks and planning time. When a teacher is off she will be filling in for that teacher as well. We are very thankful she will be joining our team at Ebenezer— Southside. Please introduce yourself and welcome her along with us. Thank you for helping us out as always and being mindful of the teachers and other parents at the center. ~ Ms. Kaye Coordinator’s Corner Happy Birthday!

Curriculum Specialist Corner By Dana Brumm

February brings some exciting activities for the children.

In our toddler rooms we will be learning the colors red, pink and white. We will work on the heart shape and what it means to be a friend.

Our 2-year-olds in the Caterpillar Classroom will also be learning about friendship, being kind, and helping others. Valentine’s Day is about love, and being a good friend means showing love for others.

The 4K Classroom is excited to have a Valentine’s Day party. The children will also be doing a collage with red and pink paint, and decorating cookies. They will be mixing red and white frosting to make pink to decorate their cookies. The children will work on learning their letters and will continue to write their letters. They will be counting many objects throughout the classroom to work on learning their numbers.

The children are loving the snow, but are disappointed it has been too cold to go outside and play. However, the teachers help this situation by bringing in some of the snow and adding it to their sensory tables so the children can still play with it!

We are hoping to get more snow this winter season because the children love to go outside and play! It may take us awhile to get all dressed and ready to play outside, but in doing this, they are also learning many self-help skills such as putting on their own outside clothes, zippering, and buttoning.

Classroom News

It’s not “Just Play”

Play is an essential part of early learning.

It is the lifeblood of the learning process.

As children play they are developing the cognitive, socio-emotional and physical skills they will need to take them into a successful adulthood.

They are developing their curiosity, problem solving, intentionality, flexibility, and verbal and non verbal skills.

Socio-emotionally they are developing their emotional intelligence—learning confidence, cooperation, negotiation, sharing, empathy and how to communicate appropriately.

Physically their fine motor and gross motor skills are being practiced and developed.

It’s not “Just Play” they are skills for life.

Holiday Cooking ideas:

We believe that children learn best through play and when they are able to fully engage all of their senses it makes the experiences more enthralling for young children.

As educators, we foster each child’s independence and encourage the exploration of culinary creations, igniting a sense of accomplishment which provides a desire to explore and create.

Let’s eat!

Breakfast Ideas:

· Heart shaped French Toast-cut your bread out with a heart cookie cutter and then proceed with making French toast.

· Heart shaped pancakes; use a metal cookie cutter and pour pancake batter inside.

· Cut toast into heart with a cookie cutter and spread with red jam.

· Drizzle a heart with honey or maple syrup on oatmeal or hot cereal.

· Spread strawberry cream cheese, then strawberry jam on top of a tortilla. Roll up and cut into slices.

· Make biscuits shaped like hearts and serve with eggs.

Love Potion Smoothie 1/2 cup frozen strawberries 1/2 cup frozen raspberries 1 small carton of yogurt 1/2 Cup ice cubes 1 cup apple juice Place strawberries, raspberries and juice in blender. Blend several seconds. If you would like a thicker smoothie add more fruit or for a drinkable smoothie add 1/4 cup more juice. This is one of those Valentine recipes that can be used year round. Find more easy smoothie recipes here.
