MINISTRY POSITIONS ARE FILLEDSouthwest leaders have been searching for a new youth minister and re-evaluating the Administrative Minister role since Joe Carr stepped down at the end of the year. The former Administrative Minister role is being split into two roles—Administrator and Executive Minister—one full time and one part time. These two roles require different skill sets and each requires a specific, unique focus. We are excited that we have been able to meet all three of these needs and are happy to announce the following additions to our ministry staff.

Our new Youth Minister is Marshall Wade. He will begin his ministry at Southwest on May 4th. Marshall is a graduate of Oklahoma Christian University with a B.A. in accounting and is completing a M.A. in Christian Ministry at Abilene Christian University. Marshall has served in youth ministry at Ovilla, TX; Hillcrest Church in Abilene, TX; and several earlier internships. Most recently he has

been the Texas Representative of Oklahoma Christian University. After having led a fall retreat and interviewing with our elders, ministers, search team, parents, and teens he has received affirmation from everyone involved. We are excited that Marshall will soon be joining our work. He brings a love for teens, a calm wisdom beyond his years, and a strong desire to build relationships, make disciples, and work with families.

Our own Michael Shumate will assume the full time Administrator role. He will begin his work on February 23rd. Michael will manage the office, building and grounds, special events, technology, and special projects. He will be available to problem solve and troubleshoot issues day to day and will provide a welcoming and serving interface as we host numerous

community events. His work is to provide the behind the scenes support that makes all our other ministries possible. Michael has an A.A. in General Education and Biblical Studies from Crowley’s Ridge College and a B.S. in Computer Information Technology from Arkansas State. His previous job experiences are in sales, management, marketing, and customer service. Michael enjoys serving people and maintains a positive spirit in his work. He is married to Amy Vines Shumate. They have two children, Hayden and Hallie.

Our part time Executive Minister role will be filled by our own Erich Grotheer. Erich began his new role February 9th. Erich and Kristie moved to Jonesboro from Overland Park, Kansas where Erich served as a Shepherd in the Overland Park Church. He is a retired chemist from Honeywell where he was a leader and manager of Development and Product/Process

engineering groups and Program Management Organizations. He and Kristie are the parents of Polly Harrell and grandparents to Jake and Isaac. Erich will manage the staff, maximize and create ministry processes and systems, and help us become more efficient at fulfilling our vision with the resources God has given us. He envisions this as a temporary role to help the church prepare for a growing future. We are grateful that Erich is willing to give of himself in this role at Southwest and are excited about the wisdom and unique skills he brings to our staff.
