Project Timeline 2007 City of Marshall officially designated by the Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission
(MASC) as the seventh and final regional sports center.
2008 Southwest Minnesota Amateur Sports Commission (SMASC) established.
2009 MASC State bonding request for $100,000 pre-design and design funding (not approved).
Secured local funds and completed pre-design phase.
2010 MASC State bonding request for $4 million (not approved). State request for .5% localgeneral sales & use tax authorization (not approved) and 1.5% hospitality tax authorization(approved). Secured Marshall Chamber of Commerce & local business support letters.
2011 State request for.5% local general sales & use tax (approved). State request for extensionof 1.5% hospitality tax authorization (approved). Secured regional cities letters of support.
2012 MASC State DEED bonding request for $4 million (not approved). November election over 60% City voter approval for local sales taxes authorization.
2013 State request for 1.5% hospitality tax technical correction. Local taxes effective April, June& July. Construction Manager finalists under review. Architect selection planned inFebruary. Design planned for April and Construction Commencement 2013. Private
adjacent property hotel and entertainment developer selection Spring 2013.

Marshall is the economic engine for Southwest Minnesota. Marshall’s
population of 14,000 grows to over 22,000 during the work day. Marshall hasrecognized population growth over 7% the last decade.
Growing Marshall as a regional center, drawing outstate dollars to Marshall byhosting state and regional athletic tournaments, camps and activities.
Creating destination quality sports facilities cooperatively between the City,Southwest Minnesota State University and Marshall Public High School.
Stimulating private investment in lodging, convention, retail and entertainmentto drive economic growth in Marshall and Southwestern Minnesota.
Utilizing Southwest Minnesota State Universities facilities for amateur sports topromote enrollment growth through expanded regional visibility.
