Welcome MESSAGE

It is my very great pleasure to welcome each and every one of you to this very special 17th anniversary of Seatrade Maritime Awards Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa Awards – held for the first time completely virtually and allowing us to share this landmark occasion with industry friends and colleagues globally. On behalf of Seatrade and Informa Markets, I would like to thank all those who have supported this scheme and for sharing this special occasion with us. The 2020 virtual edition might take place online, but our awards are very much in celebration of the achievements of the resilience of the maritime industries of the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa, to continue to operate and, in some cases grow, in these unprecedented times. The Seatrade Maritime Awards have been supporting, recognising and rewarding the progress made for the past 17 years. Of course, a huge amount has changed over that time in market conditions, new technologies and regulatory challenges. Yet the message from these Awards is that the industry in the region continues to rise to the challenges it faces, with tenacity and ambition. Each year, the Seatrade Maritime Awards attract a high number of entry submissions, with this year nearly 100 entries submitted. In this special 2020 virtual edition, the Awards will recognise nine winners in a shortened and more focussed celebration including a special award for 2020 recognising an exceptional response to the challenges posed by the pandemic. The core categories encourage the pursuit of excellence in a range of areas, including sustainability, Intelligent Shipping and Logistic Solutions. It is also part of the role of the Seatrade Maritime Awards to recognise exceptional contributions from individuals through a sequence of Personality Awards, with the winners chosen by Seatrade’s editorial

board and this year introduces a new award for Diversity & Equality.

2020 once again also saw leading individuals from the industry lend their time and expertise generously to judge the submissions in these core categories. We would like to extend our thanks to the high-calibre independent judging panel comprising of 17 judges for their time, tireless dedication and efforts involved. We would also like to extend our personal thanks to Chair of Judges, Tony Field, President - Middle East & Africa Marine & Offshore, Lloyd’s Register for the support and contribution in his first year within the role. We look forward to receiving his feedback and ideas for how we can continue to improve and grow the process over the coming 12 months.I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my congratulations to all those shortlisted for their outstanding achievements. Your accomplishments and good work have helped in enhancing the development of the industry at all levels. Lastly, I would like to express our sincerest thanks to all of our sponsors for their incredibly generous support of the event: ADNOC Logistics & Services, Abu Dhabi Ports, Aries Marine & Engineering Services, DP World UAE Region, Drydocks World, Tomini Shipping and Tristar Group. And, of course, the supporting partners which include: Arab Women in the Maritime Association (AWIMA); Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, Middle East Branch; Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology UAE Branch; INMEX SMM India; Young Ship Dubai; Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport in Sharjah (AASTS) and The Mission to Seafarers who is once again our Official Charity. We hope you all have a fantastic virtual occasion, and we look forward to welcoming you back in 2021 – where we very much hope to see you all in person.

The COVID-19 pandemic has directly impacted food security across the globe, increasing the need for unprecedented food storage capacity. To ensure sufficient future food resources, Abu Dhabi Ports Logistics (ADPL) designed an efficient model to support the Abu Dhabi Government’s Food Security Program, formed to ensure constant food supply to the UAE market.

ADPL has invested in a 45,000 sqm state-of-the-art facility, with a temperature range between -36C to +26C with low-to-zero carbon emissions. The facility is strategically located equidistant between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, helping reduce journey times, optimising fleet utilisation, lowering costs and minimising environmental impact.

DP World aims to make trade smarter by harnessing the massive opportunities offered by digital technology to make the whole supply chain work better. Over the past year, we’ve stepped up Digitalisation by rolling out new tools for logistics, cargo owners and supply chain operators. Some of these include: - The Digital Freight Alliance that gathers freight forwarders on to a single globe-spanning platform. - Acquiring three key shipping and cargo booking tools: searates.com, landrates.com and airrates.com - Our global operations are now integrated with TradeLens, a block chain-based digital container logistics platform.

- Our single window platform for cross-border trade, Dubai Trade, introduced the Electronic Delivery Order (E-DO) during the lockdown to assist importers to carry on with their business activities from home.- We made supply chain even more resilient when our online platform Dubai Trade, launched ZADI, (https://zadi.net/) an integrated single widow system for automated end-to-end support for the F&B sector.- Manasah, (https://www.manasah.com) a digital e-commerce platform for UAE-based SMEs was launched during the lockdown to allow small traders to reach consumers and partners working from home.

Before Bahrain even had its first case, ASRY had setup its response infrastructure across six operational areas and activated its Pandemic Response Manual. The result was zero cases in the yard for 88 days from the first case in Bahrain; after the first case in ASRY, the shipyard’s active case peaked only 7 days later and

began reducing due to the comprehensive company-wide response; the only Middle East shipyard to successfully get governmental approval to allow crew changes; honoured every customer project commitment; and continued operations so that we did not decline a single customer enquiry.

RSGT is pursuing environmentally sustainable terminal operations through investment in new electrically-powered container-handling equipment, which reduces overall diesel fuel usage and its associated harmful greenhouse gas emissions. As RSGT continues with the planned USD $1.7 billion in equipment and improvements to the expanded terminal over the next 30 years, the transition to sustainable power supplies and reduced-emission terminal operations will accelerate. The two latest-generation

STS Cranes currently on order will be electrically-powered using advanced technology to improve operating efficiency. All of RSGT’s existing STS Cranes are electrically-powered, reflecting our early commitment to sustainable operations during our first decade since the terminal’s establishment in 2009. Ten new Rubber-Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGs) on order will also use hybrid electric/conventional power, which will significantly decrease CO2 emissions in yard operations.

Intelligent Shipping Award

Awards2020

As the industry in the region accelerates its engagement with digital technologies and automated solutions in port and at sea, this Award identifies an exceptional example of the successful implementation of a new technology solution which offers measurable efficiency benefits.

We started out in 1760 as a marine classification society. Today, we’re one of the world’s leading providers of professional services for engineering and technology in over 75 countries. The profits we generate fund the Lloyd’s Register Foundation, a charity which supports science and engineering-related research, education and public engagement around everything we do.

We provide classification, compliance and consultancy services to the marine and offshore industry, helping our clients design, construct and operate their assets to the highest levels of safety and performance with our long-standing reputation for integrity, impartiality and technical excellence.

In a world of increasing complexity – overloaded with data and opinion – we know that our clients need more than technology to succeed. They need an experienced hand, a partner to listen, cut through the noise and focus on what really matters to them and their customers. Our engineers and technical experts are dedicated to assurance. That means a commitment to embracing new technology, and a deep rooted desire to drive better performance. So we consider our customers’ needs with diligence and empathy, then use our expertise and over 260 years’ experience to deliver the smart solution for everyone. After all, there are some things technology can’t replace.
