Re: Inspect and Report on Log-Timber Structure Steel Base Plate Welds & Sampling Only

Project Description

New log timber structure Installation, Interior Town, BC

Did we answer Who, When, Where? Scope of Work (what is scope of our work?) We were asked to carry out a visual inspection of the base plate welds on a log-timber structure. We understand that the purpose of the welded base plates is primarily to resist shear forces from potential winds and that there is minimal load bearing forces on the described welds. Reference Documents (supplied by Client) 1. Plan of log timber structure 2. Top & Bottom Plate Assemblies Welding Code CSA W59 section 11 Static Structures Method of Inspection Visual Inspection Sampling Check Only Findings 1. The structure plan show twenty (20) columns positioned on Gridlines 1 & 2. (refer plan &

photo 1) 2. There were 20 top plate assemblies ~23”OD seated on 20x bottom plate embeds ~21” OD 3. The ½” thick top and bottom plates were seated and welded in position with 5/16” overhead

fillets. 4. Some minor undercut was found acceptable to welding standard. 5. Generally, the shape and size of the weld profiles were acceptable. (refer photo2) 6. Who did the welding? Conclusion Generally, the base plate weldments were found acceptable to CSA W59 section 11. End

•  Keep  reports  brief,  accurate,  clean,  to  the  point,  delivered  in  Mmely  manner.
