Spain is located in the Iberian Península, in western Europe, between the Atlantic ocean and the Mediterranean sea.
It has an average altitude of 650 m above the sea level ; it is the second most mountainous country in Europe.
These factors give the country a wide variety of landscapes.
Our province: ALMERÍA
It is in Andalucía, in the southeast of Spain. It is the driest part of the country and has the highest number of sunny days per year.

In the Poniente area, in the southwest of the province, you’ll find hectares covered in plastic. The consecuences for the landscape have been dramatic, even you can see from the space.
This also affects population: there’s a need of non-qualified manpower, to work in hard conditions. This has brought lots of immigrants, expecially from african countries
The porcentage of imigrant population in the municipality of El Ejido is over 20 %. In our village, Las Norias, this porcentage rises almost to 60 %.
Poniente County: it is not snowed, it’s what we call the plastic sea…

OUR SCHOOL
The main building is quite modern
From the sport yard you can see the mountains, even Sierra Nevada and Mulhacén peak (3484m), the higest in the Iberian Peninsula.
El I.E.S. Las Norias has 48 teachers and 466 pupils of 16 different nationalities.
Secundarie studies and V.E.T (vocational education training) studies are taught in this school.
The high percentage of immigrants (over 50%), makes our job more “interesting”. Mainly, we have to take over two problems:•.- Inter-ethnic coexistence and among the different nationalities.•.- Uneven academic level of the pupils.
We have to work up a big amount of different plans and projects, organizing
lots of activities throughout the year.
