THE PRETERITE TENSE Today we are going to learn about the PRETERITE tense. We already learned about the Imperfect which talks about things we used to do, habitual or repeated actions, or descriptions in the past. The PRETERITE is a PAST tense, used to talk about COMPLETED ACTIONS, WHAT HAPPENED AT A SPECIFIC TIME, CHANGES IN FEELING/STATE OF BEING, and INTERRUPTING ACTIONS. READ THESE NOTES CAREFULLY & USE THEM TO COMPLETE THE ACTIVITIES.

La muchacha y la ardilla Había una vez una muchacha que se llamaba Maya, y ella caminaba al parque para

«¡Ay! Tengo hambre!15 ¿Qué hora es?16» Ella miró su reloj y exclamó, «¡Ay! ¡Ya son las ocho

de la noche! ¡Tengo que regresar a casa para comer!» Pero entonces vio que estaba en un

bosque17. Ella buscó el camino18, pero no vio nada familiar. Ella caminó durante horas,

buscando un camino. Ella tenía mucha hambre y tenía frío también. Ella no

tenía comida ni tenía chaqueta. Ella pensó, «Si yo no encuentro19 comida, yo

voy a morir20». Entonces, ella miró los animales. Los animales miraron a Maya.
