Good Reasons to Choose E.I.

Since 1988, E.I. has become a leading orga-nization in the teaching of Spanish as aforeign language. Today we are proud of thefact that the majority of students come to E.I.as a result of the recommendations of ourformer students.

There is a maximum of 10 international stu-dents in each class. The first day of thecourse you will take a placement test in orderto place you in the course and level that bestfit your needs and abilities. Throughout yourtime with us, we ensure that your professorswill closely monitor your progress. Beforeleaving E.I., you will receive a Certificate ofAttendance as well as a Grade Card, withscores reflecting your linguistic progress.

The E.I. schools are situated in cities famousfor their student atmosphere or theirbeaches. These cities offer a wide range ofscholastic, cultural and recreational opportu-nities. You will find it easy to meet manySpanish people of your own age and haveaccess to recreational and sporting facilities. You can also combine your studies easilyamong the various cities in Spain by register-ing for a "Combined Course".

In Spain and Mexico the lessons in groupsare 50 minutes long, 45 in Costa Rica. Thereare at least 4 different levels of learning ineach center.

Courses start every week, but we recom-mend that beginners start every 4 weeks. You may enroll for a period of 2 to 34 weeksin courses with 15 to 30 lessons a week.

The majority of our students choose to livewith a selected host family, who offers unpar-alleled Spanish hospitality, cooking and cul-tural exchange. It is also possible to live in auniversity residence to live among Spanishstudents. For those who prefer more inde-pendence, we have fully furnished apart-ments to share with other international stu-dents. It is also possible to reserve a room ina hotel located near the chosen E.I. center.

We are proud of the quality and profession-alism of all the teachers and staff at E.I. Weare aware that it is our qualified, nativeteachers who make Escuela Internacional aprofessional, innovative and dynamic organi-zation. Our teachers use real-life situationswithin an interactive methodology thatallows you to feel you are an important partof the class.

E.I. prepares students for the two mainSpanish exams:

1. ‘Diploma de Español como LenguaExtranjera’ (DELE), the only official languagecertificate offered by the Spanish govern-ment for international students.

2. The ‘Examen de Español Comercial’

The impressive results that EscuelaInternacional students obtain in both examsassure you of the quality of the courses.

Every E.I. student has the chance to take partin one or more ‘Intercambios’, (an exchangeof conversation) with a Spanish student. Theycomplement your experience in E.I. givingyou the opportunity to make new friends.

The University of Alcalá de Henares hasinspected the E.I schools of Madrid - Alcaláde Henares, Salamanca and Málaga. Verysatisfactory results were obtained in theteaching process and as a result all 3 E.I. cen-ters have received the CEELE certification.

Our extra-curricular program is the perfectcomplement to the language courses.Accompanied by a Social Coordinator, theactivities give you the chance to practiceyour new language skills in real life situations. On the weekends, you can participate inorganized excursions to interesting cities inSpain, Costa Rica or Mexico.

If after successfully completing the Advanced(C2) Level of the school’s program and uponreturning to your own country, your Spanishis of an insufficient level for academic oremployment purposes you can return to E.I.and study free.

WELCOME TO ESCUELA INTERNACIONAL!

Escuela Internacional is a leading organization among

schools that teach Spanish as a second language, which

offers students the possibility of following a course pro-

gram in one of five Spanish schools in Spain and in Latin

America, Mexico and Costa Rica. We are certain you

will enjoy spending a few weeks with us, whichever des-

tination you may choose.

Why learn Spanish at Escuela Internacional? What makes us stand out from other schools? When

considering any and all aspects of a study abroad program, Escuela Internacional puts a special

emphasis on organization, preparation and personal attention for each and every student. Also,

since each school is medium-sized, we can maintain a comfortable, fun, family atmosphere for our

students. At the same time, we provide serious Spanish course instruction at qualified schools,

always demanding the highest level of professionalism and organization, in language teaching as

well as in the administration, which makes for centers which exceed the quality norms of their

country.

Outstanding language teaching at E.I. schools is due to the excellent coordination among the

professors and the studies coordinators. Making use of an internal website, we are continually

developing and revising didactic materials and communicative activities. There are also frequent

didactic seminars for the professors. This organizational effort allows the professors to approach

each lesson with enthusiasm and concentrate on helping each student to improve his/her level of

Spanish in the most effective way.

Carefully chosen destinations are characterized for being cities in which students can learn about

authentic Spanish life. In Spain you may choose to study in the cities of Salamanca, Malaga and

Madrid-Alcalá de Henares, and in Latin America between José, Costa Rica and Cuernavaca,

Mexico. They are safe, medium- sized, university cities where students can walk from their accom-

modations to the schools and easily get together with friends in the afternoons.

If you decide to come to Escuela Internacional we are certain you will have a memorable experi-

ence; you will reach your goal of learning Spanish together with other students from all over the

world and be able to experience Spanish life first hand, making friends, trying new foods, learn-

ing about the festivals, ambiance, light and color of this special country.

We hope to welcome you soon to one of the Escuela Internaiconal Spanish schools.

Progressive LearningA 3-month intensive course at E.I. is equivalent to almost3 years of study (2 hours a week) in your own country. Yourimmersion in the Spanish language and culture, combinedwith the quality of E.I. courses, will help you from the veryfirst day. The best way to learn a language is to speak, lis-ten, read and think it as much as possible. In the E.I.schools, this can be done in a fun and creative way.

Communicative MethodThe communicative method adapts to your needs. In theelementary level you learn to make yourself understoodin everyday situations such as shopping, speaking withfriends, making requests, . . .The teacher coordinates thelessons in such a way that you are encouraged to active-ly participate. In the higher levels, the student developsthe capacity for precise and effective discourse. Seminars to study the methods used in EscuelaInternacional. In these seminars they learn that linguisticprogress is dependent upon many factors and that peo-ple from different countries have distinct learning obsta-cles. They are shown how to overcome these barriers sothat students can progress more rapidly and effectively.

EvaluationOn completion of your course or at the end of eachcourse, your instructor will give you a Grade Card thatindicates your progress in learning the language.

México is a place that must be explored:an unforgettable experience that entersyour soul.México, home to thousand year old civi-lizations, always surprising and magical, awaits students, with glorious colonialcities, beautiful countryside, and friendlypeople. In México you can go from themost dense jungle, to the dessert; andfrom a volcanic zone, to the unequaledbeaches of the Caribbean. México is also a country with a lot of cul-tural and historic interest. From the highcentral plains to the Pacific coast, numer-ous civilizations have left their mark in thiscountry, even before the Europeans dis-covered that the Earth was round.

Costa Rica is located between Panamaand Nicaragua. The "ticos", a name CostaRicans call themselves, are proud of thefact that their country is considered the"Switzerland" of Central America. This isdue to the country’s political stability andnatural forested areas.

The monetary unit is the Colón,which is also divided into 100 cents.Credit cards are widely accepted inthe majority of the touristic establish-ments and stores, although they arenot generally accepted in the smallarts and crafts establishments. Gastronomy

Highlights are fish and seafood, tropical fruits, black soup made withblack beans and egg, fruit juicesand coffee.

The traditional gastronomy of this

country is the reflection of the cul-tural fusion, which took place inCentral America. Legumes accom-panied by grilled meats and corntortillas form the base for the maindishes of the region.

San José is known to have one of thebest climates in the world, with aver-age daily temperatures of 21º C.The rain falls in sudden showers fromMay through October, clearing theair and cleaning the streets.
