Why does my electric bill go up during the holidays?

Co-op members use more energy during the holi-day season and bills may be higher because:

1) Holiday lights and decorations use energy; switch to energy-efficient LED holiday lights.

2) Holiday entertaining involves extra cooking and baking, which requires extra electricity.

3) Holiday guests mean more hot water for showers, laundry and dishwashing, more heating and light-ing in guest rooms and more cooking.

4) Shorter days and longer nights mean lights stay on longer, both inside and out.

5) With colder temperatures, space heaters are often used in garages, basements and other places to provide warmth.

6) Even if you don’t use electric heat, many heating systems use electricity to power fans and functions.

To save energy and money during the holidays and all year long, pick up a FREE 101 Low-Cost, No-Cost Energy Savings Brochure from High West.

UPDATE!The system wide meter read

which was to take place in November has now been moved to late

December.

75th ANNUAL MEETINGHigh West Energy’s annual meeting was held on Saturday November 3rd at the Kimball High School in Kimball, Nebraska.

Among the highlights included, a gymnasium full of handmade items such as purses, jewelry, towels, paintings and demonstrations. Fred Wood of Pine Bluffs catered the roast beef luncheon.

Entertainment was provided by motivational entertainer Tom Johnson, from Omaha, Nebraska.

The business meeting began at 1:00. HWE Board President Russ Nielsen intro-duced special guests which included, Cara Eastwood-Baldwin from Linden and Associates, Attorney Hank Bailey, WREA Executive Director Shawn Taylor, Michael Reidman from Basin Electric, Jim Spiers from Tri-State Generation and Transmis-sion and Mike Prom from Western United Electric.

Dave Crouse, a High West employee, recited the invocation then everyone fol-lowed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Hank Bailey, Attorney for High West Energy then read the 2012 Notice of Meeting, and dispensed with the reading of the 2011 minutes to which was passed.

Board President, Russell Nielsen provided the members with updates for bio mass fuel, hydro, and many programs that are offered either HWE, Tri-State and Touchstone Energy.

General Manager, Brian Heithoff ‘s topic “Six Questions about High West Energy” posed a question-answer format. The questions and answers consisted of:• Status of the Cheyenne Service Center (see page 1)• Franchise update from Cheyenne (Work in progress)• Co-op Connections Card Program (Helping your pocketbook)• Financial status of HWE (very strong)• Members information (HWE IT department is focused on the

strength of protecting you and your account data)• Biggest challenges that the Coop faces (updating infrastructure, increased efficiency, regulations)

Mr. Heithoff, along with the Board of Directors and employees recognized Lloyd Sisson, Director of Engineering for his 40 years of service to the cooperative and it’s members. Heithoff then introduced all employees.

Shawn Taylor, WREA Director then took the podium to speak to the mem-bership about the importance of the “grassroots” initiative . It is vital that we as members and employees to make our voices heard on federal issues that may directly influence rural areas by contacting our U.S. Represen-tative and Senators. The website “Our Energy, Our Future” is one way of

keeping up-to-date on the issues that directly effect your cooperative.

President Nielsen than announced that a quorum had been reached. District 11 nominee Troy Freeburg was re-elected and Clinton Farrar from District 13 was also re-elected. Each were elected to 3-year terms.
