SPRING RUMINATIONS
Well springtime is finally here and all I can think about is the promise of opening weekend of the trout
season in the Sierra.
The winter has been spent tying flies, cleaning and lubricating equipment, patching waders and complet-
ing all of the necessary preparations to hopefully make for a successful fishing season.
Will those five pound cutthroats be up in the Owens this spring like they were last year? When will the
San Joaquin be fishable? July? August? It's different this year with so much snow pack. Adjustments
will have to be made as most of the mountain creeks will be running strong for a good part of the summer.
So maybe we stay off of the running water for the early part of the season and concentrate on our old still
water stalwart, Crowley Lake, to provide opportunities for large trout. Heave and leave those midges and
wait for a plunging indicator. Tighten that line and hold on for all you're worth.
But whether we're fishing or catching the rewards are palpable. Clean air, beautiful scenery, the company
of friends and the satisfaction that comes with anticipation, these are the rewards that Sierra trout fishing
holds.
Tight lines,
President, Scott Olson
“… whether we're fishing or catching the rewards are palpable.”

My goals are not only to take you on a
visual journey but to address the fish-
ing techniques that you will need in
our arsenal for tricking trout. I will
apply my knowledge of hunting trout
in these waters since 1979 and do my
best to relate this with my unique
