Cat C15 Engine with ACERT® Technology. The Cat C15 engine is an increaseddisplacement version of the provenCat 3406 engine. The C15 is U.S. EPATier 3/EU Stage III compliant andfeatures a 3.5 percent horsepower increaseover the previous 3406. The four strokeengine delivers fuel economy, durabilityand reliability in the most demandingconditions. High torque rise deliversperformance you can feel with greaterrimpull, lift force and faster cycle times.Resilient engine mounts dampen vibrationfor lower sound levels.

Engine Lubrication. Engine lubricatingoil is filtered, cooled and supplied bya gear-type pump.

Mechanical Electronic Unit Injector(MEUI™). MEUI is a high-pressure, directinjection fuel system that is virtuallyadjustment-free. It electronically monitorsoperator and sensor inputs to optimizeengine performance.

Air-to-Air Aftercooler (ATAAC) System. The ATAAC system provides a separatecooling for the intake manifold air.It routes hot, compressed air from theturbo and cools it with a single pass,air-to-air aluminum heat exchanger. The cooled, compressed air greatlyreduced the emissions produces, meetingU.S. EPA Tier 3/EU Stage III requirements.

• Airflow matched turbocharger withpower rating helps reduce emissions.

• 19 percent more bearing area allowsthe engine to operate at the maximumcylinder pressure.

• Higher cylinder pressure capabilityhelps reduce fuel consumption andimproves high altitude operationand provides reduced emissions.

Cylinder heat exhaust port sleevesreduce heat rejection which results inless heat transfer into the water jacketsystem and provides high torque rise.

Next Generation Modular Radiator(NGMR). The parallel flow systemwith six cores standard (seven onthe high ambient machine) improvescooling capabilities. Serviceability isalso enhanced as there is no top tankto remove. The NGMR uses copperbrazed brass tubes and copper fins.

ADEM™ IV (Advanced Diesel EngineManagement) System. ADEM IV uses a32-bit computer with sensors throughoutthe engine to regulate fuel delivery, valvetiming and all other engine systemsthat require input to manage loadand performance.

ADEM IV also offers automatic altitudecompensation, a cold mode start-upstrategy, oil pressure and coolant warningswhich result in precise engine speedcontrol, superior cold start capability, low smoke and emissions in alloperating conditions.

Transmission. The extreme duty, planetary, powershift Cat transmissionfeatures heavy-duty components to handlethe toughest jobs. The four planet drivesoperate in all gears forward and reverse.Electronic controls provide features toenhance productivity, durability andserviceability. The additions of theElectronic Clutch Pressure Control(ECPC) contributes to improved shiftquality, reduced torque spikes and overalltransmission durabillity. Control ThrottleShift (CTS) offers smoother shifts andimproves clutch and power train life.

4

Delivers top performance and durability in tough applications.

Power Train

Page 5: Specalog for 825H Soil Compactor, AEHQ5616-02Parking Brake. The spring-applied, oil-released, dry drum design parking brake is mounted on the transmission output ... XT-3™ and XT-6™

Torque Converter. The torque converteruses a high-capacity impeller to handlethe the engine’s increased torque rise(24 percent) and power.

Heavy-Duty Axles. The fixed front andoscillating (±9 degrees) rear heavy-dutyaxles feature strong gears and bearingsin both the differentials and heavy-dutyfinal drives for increased durability.Permanently lubricated, maintenance-free U-joints result in fewer parts andimproved serviceability. Free floatingaxles shafts can be removed independentlyfrom the wheels and planetary drives.

Spindles and Final Drives. Planetary unitscan be removed independently from thewheels and brakes. The final drives featureplanetary reduction at each wheel, andwith torque developed at the wheel, lessstress is placed on the axle shafts.

Differentials. Conventional front andoptional No-SPIN rear differentialsdeliver maximum traction in low tractionor inconsistent ground conditions.

Service Brakes. Completely enclosedand located on the two front wheels, theservice brakes are self-adjusting withmodulated engagement and are designedfor easy servicing. With two brake pedals, the right pedal controls standard brakingwhile engine deceleration and brakingoccurs with the left pedal.

Parking Brake. The spring-applied, oil-released, dry drum design parking brakeis mounted on the transmission outputshaft driveline for manual operation. The Caterpillar® Monitoring Systemalerts the operator if the transmissionis engaged while the parking brakeis applied.

Secondary Brake. The secondary brakecan be applied manually by the operator. In addition, the Caterpillar MonitoringSystem alerts the operator if pressuredrops and will automatically applythe parking brake.

Cold Start. This feature is improved bynot only ADEM IV but also a new largerstarter and four higher CCA batteries(1,000 CCA).

Hydraulic System. The hydraulicsystem provides low-effort blade control.Seat mounted levers send electricalsignals to a pilot valve mounted on thefront frame, moving the sound, heat andeffort caused by the hydraulic valve outof the operator’s station.

Command Control Steering. A mechanicalfeedback system combines with valveratio to provide quarter-turn, side-to-side steering. Unlike systems that relyon steering wheel velocity to activatesteering cylinders, Command Controlsteering directly links the steering wheelposition to articulation. The speed themachine turns is proportional to thesteering wheel position. The benefit isprecise control, quicker response anddramatically reduced operator motionand effort.

Load Sensing Steering. With loadsensing steering, machine performanceis maximized because power is directedto the steering system only when theoperator steers the machine. This allowsmore power to be applied to the groundwhen the machine is not being steered. It also helps decrease fuel consumptionsince the steering system does notconstantly draw on the engine.

Positive Displacement HydraulicPumps. All hydraulic pumps aremounted on a single pump drive forimproved serviceability.

XT-3™ and XT-6™ Hose. ReliableXT-3 ES and XT-6 ES hoses, alongwith o-ring face seals and a large capacitylife cylinder complete the hydraulicsystem. Reliable components reduce therisk of leaks and blown lines, helpingprotect the environment and reducingoperating costs.

6

HydraulicsWell-balanced hydraulics deliver precise, low-effort control and trouble-free operation.

Chevron Tamping Tip Design. The modified chevron tamping wheeltip design provides greater groundpressure, more compaction, excellenttraction and a smooth ride.

Wheel Tips. There are 13 tips per rowand 65 tips per wheel for excellentcompaction.

Compaction. Compaction is achievedfrom the bottom of the lift to the top.The tapered tips walk out of the liftwithout “fluffing” the soil. The top ofthe lift is compacted and the surface isrelatively smooth and sealed so haulingunits are able to maintain a high speedwhen traveling over the fill. The 825Htravel speed allows four forces ofcompaction: pressure, manipulation, impact and vibration. Since the 825Hcan also spread fill, the number ofspreader tractors may be able tobe reduced.

High Density Wheels. Designed withlonger and narrower tips, high densitywheels provide higher ground contactpressure and provide the ability to achievemore difficult density requirements. They are capable of liquid ballast foradditional compactive benefit andself-seating valves can relieve pressurefrom the ballast. High density tipsmeet stringent compaction specificationrequirements. Tip height is 215 mm(8.5 in) and tip width is 168 mm (6.6 in).

Standard Tips. Standard tips are usedin typical soil compaction applicationswhere compaction specificationrequirements are 95-100 percent StandardProctor. Tip height is 188.3 mm (7.4 in)and tip width is 224 mm (8.8 in).

Symmetrical Tamping Tip Pattern.Equal compaction is forward or reverseis the result of the symmetrical tampingtip pattern. Tips are full perimeter andreplaceable. The tip is welded to a baseassembly, which then is welded directlyto the drum.

Cleaner Bars. Each wheel has two cleanerbars to keep the drums free of carryoverdirt, regardless of rolling direction soefficiency is maximized.

Adjustable Cleaner Bar Tip.The adjustable cleaner bar tips areheat-treated and direct hardened, cuttingedge steel to increase wear life, whichtranslates into lower operating costs.

7

Tamping Wheels and TipsThe heart of any compaction system.

Structure Construction. Combines theuse of robotic welding on up to 90 percentof the 825H, while castings are used inseveral areas to increase strength byhelping to spread the loads and reducethe number of parts. This provideshighly consistent welds with deep platepenetration and excellent plate fusion. The benefits are increased durability andfatigue strength. The computer controlledmachining ensures the alignment ofpin bore, axle pad, cab mount andtransmission/engine components.

Box Section Engine End Frame.Designed to resist twisting and torsionalforces, the box section engine end frameprovides a solid foundation for theaxles, engine and transmission.

Front Frame. The two-plate frontframe provides maximum structuralstrength during compaction anddozing applications.

Spread Hitch Design. The spread hitchdesign improves load distribution byreducing loads to the hitch bearings. The large center hitch design improveshydraulic line routing and makesservice access easier.

Upper and Lower Hitch Pins. The hitchpins pivot on double-tapered rollerbearings. Box-style sections in thehitch pins and crossmember assemblyimprove frame structure strength.Increased diameter lower hitch pinsadd to the robust design.

Engine and Transmission Mounts.A rubber isolation mount designreduces noise and vibration.

8

Advanced design and materials provide superior strength to the purpose built structures.

Straight Blade. The straight blade isstandard on the 825H.

Outside Mounted S-Blade. The S-Bladefeatures multiple box-section construction, including heat treated moldboard andDH-2 steel cutting edges and enginebits for long life. The outside mountingis a stronger design because stresses areput on the frame rather than the blade soblade flexing is reduced. It also allowsfor higher lift and a wider blade can beused than with an inside mounted design.

Operator Controls. Lift, tilt and tip arestandard. The controls are convenientlylocated to the right of the operator.

Applications. The 825H excels atcompacting, boosting scrapers, backfilling and spreading fill.

BladesMultiple box-section construction with heat treated moldboard and DH-2 steel edges andend bits contribute to long blade life.

Optional Sliding Cab Window. Locatedin the right and left doors are optionalssliding windows to provide access tooutside air without opening the door.

Floodlights and Auxiliary LightPackage. Located on the 825H exterior, floodlights are super damp and will lastup to seven times longer than previouslights. An auxiliary light package withthe cab (two facing forward and twofacing rearward) is available.

Fast Fuel Fill. The fast fuel fill is usedduring peak periods when high productionis needed and little downtime can beafforded for fueling. Fuel is pumpedinto the tank through a filling nozzle ata rate of 378 L (100 gal) per minute. As fuel enters the tank, air is forced out

through an open vent. When the tankis full, the vent closes and the fillingnozzle automatically shuts off.

Sound Suppression. Sound suppressionpanels available for the enginecompartment help reduce noise.
