Derek Bouma (Strathroy-East) Stated Clerk: Ron Middel Credentials & Instructions Committee: Members of CMC PURPOSE: This Special (contracta) Meeting of Classis Chatham is called following recommendations from our London Campus Ministry (LCM) Committee and the Classical Ministry Committee (CMC). The purpose of this meeting is to consider and endorse a recommendation from the LCM, and that classis approve the work of the Fanshawe Chaplain Search Committee. The Search Committee and the LCM Board is recommending the approval of Helena Allan to become the new Chaplain at Fanshawe College, with a start date of January 7, 2019. GROUNDS: for this special meeting of classis is that the proposed start date of January 7, 2019 aligns with the college's Winter Term, giving Helena exposure to the college and students for the full semester. If approval is delayed to our regular meeting in February, much of the semester will be lost (without a chaplain).

To Whom It May Concern: I am responding to your job posting on the Network for Campus Minister at Fanshawe

College (London). In reviewing the position and your church website, in relation to my qualifications and experience, I feel I could be the person God has called to your church. My academic experience includes: a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Religion with a Major in Political Studies, minor in Classics and undeclared minor in Public Policy & Administration. As part of this degree I did international exchanges in Greece and the Southwest US where I studied archaeology, language, culture and religion. Additionally, during my undergraduate studies I was involved in the Department Societies, Intramural sports, Residence Life, and student run Christian groups. Following my BA I obtained a Master of Theological Studies from Queen’s University where I was additionally involved in the Graduate Student Society, Peer Support for Undergraduates, Residence Life, and on campus ministry. During my time at Queen’s I worked as a residence support staff for students living on campus. Additionally, I obtained a Master of Arts (Theology) where I specialized in Pastoral Care and Counselling, with a focus on Mental Health and a Master of Divinity, where I specialized in Spiritual Care & Chaplaincy. As part of these two degrees I did 3 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (2 Basic, 1 Advanced) in varying contexts including ER, ICU, Palliative Care and Forensic Psychiatry. During my MDiv I also served as a Family Pastor for an inner-city church where I ministered to many at risk youth and adults, some of whom were caught up in Human Trafficking. Throughout my academic and professional career I have been very involved in worship leading & planning, educational workshops, faith formation, interfaith dialogues, and cultural experiences. Since July 2014, after finishing my MDiv, I have been serving as an Associate Pastor at Covenant Christian Reformed Church & Transcona CRC in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In this position I serve primarily people under 30, but am not limited to that demographic. Through my work I have become trained in Mental Health First Aid, helped establish mental health support for families and young adults, creating safe spaces for youth, young adults and parents. In my current role I have been very involved in faith formation of our church and youth, which includes (but not limited to): teaching and coordinating Sunday School, teaching weekly catechism, developing and running a meaningful junior youth and senior youth programs, meeting with youth in smaller groups for faith mentoring, coordinating SERVE trips, assisting with VBS, serving as Spiritual Director for our week long summer Bible camps (which has included writing curriculum, developing cabin material, leading staff devotions, and providing general support) and providing pastoral care to youth and families. I have also been instrumental in starting up a young adult group as well as writing & teaching issues relating to what happens once youth graduate high school and how to stay connected to young adults. Additionally, Covenant CRC was involved in the pilot project for the Building Blocks of Faith, which included attending the Worship Symposium 2016 and developing an intentional Faith Formation focus within our daily ministries and within our worship contexts. I also currently serve as the Classis Lake Superior (Canada) Youth Champion, which has included attending annual retreats, contributing to Faith Formation documents, leading webinars, and connecting with other youth leaders across the denomination. I look forward to hearing upon you, and if you don’t feel I am the one God has called I hope and pray that right person will be brought to you. Blessings, Helena Allan
