AT-ATs are about the most awesome Star Wars vehicles! These were used by both the Empire and the First Order to try to walk right over their enemies, and they are pretty indestructible (unless they step in tauntaun poop, then they take forever to clean). You can see them in multiple Star Wars™ movies, video games, and more. They have become one of the most recognized symbols of the Star Wars universe!

ALPACA MOUNTAIN RESCUE!ALPACA MOUNTAIN RESCUE!Written by Mia and Stephanie

We just got back from a school trip to South America. Our science class was there to learn about jungles, mountains and rain forests, the wildlife that lives there, and how we can all help to protect the environment. A photographer from National Geographic came along to take pictures of our expedition.

We made a base camp in

the foothills of the Andes.

We were there to learn

about alpacas, a herd

animal that lives on farms

here and is prized for its

MIA: I flew my helicopter

near the top of a

mountain to check out

some alpacas on the

high slope. Just then, my

instruments showed the

mountain was a volcano

about to erupt. I had to

act fast.

STEPHANIE: Mia radioed

me and we came up with

a plan. I made my way to

the herd of alpacas and

slipped harnesses around

the animals. One by one,

Mia airlifted them with the

helicopter and deposited

them where they would

be out of danger.

Not long after that,

Andrea and Emma

arrived by hot-air balloon.

What the four of us

learned is that the wild

is a place of great beauty,

but unexpected dangers

too. Animals and birds

of all kinds call the

wilderness home. If it

gets destroyed, they

will have no place to

live and may go extinct.

TIP: You can help migrating

birds to make it home to

Central and South America.

By putting a bird bath or a

bird house in your yard,

you can provide

water and shelter

for birds as they

fly south for the

winter.

So, Jay, what brought you to the ninja kingdom of Shintaro?

JAY: My fellow ninjas and I were invited to a princess’ birthday party. We were excited to attend - we heard Shintaro is a really cool place. Turns out, it’s fantastic for epic battles! Not so much for birthdays.

How come?

JAY: Cole found out that underneath the city

there are these dark, damp dungeons. There’s a wicked Skull Sorcerer forcing two tribes to work for him. So, we’re going to take him down because that’s what ninjas do!

Is he dangerous?

JAY: He knows a lot of magic and he’s got skeleton warriors and this big skeleton dragon working for him. Lots of skeletons. But I guess when you’ve got “skull” in your name, that kind of goes with it.

Any advice for the students at our school?

JAY: Well, I’m an inventor, so science is the best. Staying in shape is important too - you never know when you might have to fight your way out of a dungeon. And if you get invited to a birthday party, make sure you at least get a piece of cake before things get messy.

Finally, tell us something about you that no one knows.

JAY: In between adventures, sometimes I like to write funny haiku poems about my friends, I wrote one about Kai that you can have, okay?

Jay is one of the heroic ninjas who have saved the world of NINJAGO® again and again. Although the battles in Shintaro are constant, we were able to quickly interview him before evil villains regrouped for their next attack.

CAN PEOPLE LIVE UNDER THE SEA?Written by: Jack Neighbour

MEET NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC UNDERWATER EXPLORER GRACE YOUNG.

Did you know that scientists and explorers have been living underwater for years now? An engineer named Grace Young spent two weeks living in an underwater habitat called the Aquarius – an air-filled living space not much bigger than a school bus.

While she was inside, Grace adapted a high-speed camera for use underwater that’s fast enough to catch underwater critters in action. She has filmed all kinds of creatures with her camera, like the mantis shrimp, which hides and then snatches prey. She’s also filmed how a lizardfish moves along by coiling its body like a spring and shooting itself out of the sand.

Grace Young loved her time living under the sea, and even after breaking the surface to feel the sun on her face again, she can’t wait until she can return underwater after dreaming up more ways to study the mysterious marine life that lives there.

Science class this month has been all about the things you

can find under the sea. Not only are there shipwrecks and

treasures down there, but also thousands of different species

of marine life. Most of the planet Earth is made up of oceans,

but we have barely explored any of it. Scientists and explorers

discover new and exciting things about the ocean every day.

School work is way easier if you have everything you need right where you can get it.

Building a desk organizer like this one is a great way to start and it’s something you’ll use every day. You can build and design one with the LEGO® bricks you have at home.

Build yourself a nameplate for your room using pieces from your LEGO® collection. Use this grid below to practice what your DOTS name would look like.

EASY AS A, B, C …EASY AS A, B, C …

GET YOURGET YOURSTUFF IN ORDER! STUFF IN ORDER!

There are other things you can do, too, to help get your school year started right:

• Clean any clutter off your desk. Anything you don’t need to do your work with should be put away someplace.• Keep your stuff together - all your pencils and pens should go in one spot, notebooks and folders in another.• Get a calendar so you can write down when your assignments are due, and other important dates to remember.
