Reporting Diploma Status
• Memo outlining reporting criteria emailed to Sped Directors May 15
• For federal exiting data, states must differentiate between special education students who receive a diploma that fulfills all regular graduation requirements and those who receive a diploma with modified requirements.

2015 Transition Summer Institute“Transition Pathways”
June 1 and 2, 2015 Best Western Ramkota Hotel, Pierre, SD • The Summer Institute will focus on practices and predictors, including self-
determination, shown to improve results for youth with disabilities as they transition to adulthood and employment. Day two of this training will feature facilitated discussions designed to help participants to evaluate current transition programming, to identify and prioritize possible improvements, and to plan practical steps for implementation.

Effective Teachers and Leaders

EC Sped Endorsement• If your district has chosen to hire a sped teacher that
does not hold an EC Sped Endorsement you are required to:– Submit a Plan of Intent (POI), which is an agreement between the
district and the personnel outlining the path to meeting the requirements for that specific position.
– This individual will need to be supervised by someone who is properly certified (EC SPED). They must NOT sign off as the SPED teacher, but can assist in assessing, writing IEPs, conducting IEP meetings, and working with students with disabilities.
– POI are valid for one school year and districts are allowed two POIs– More information can be found at http://
