pro-life effort. For 11 years, Archbishop Naumann served as the coordinator of the St. Louis Archdiocesan Pro-Life Committee.

As Archbishop of Kansas City, Kansas he continues to be a champion for Life, and we are grateful for his faith and leadership. The 2013 Angel Gala will begin with a cocktail reception at Kemoll’s Restaurant followed by dinner, a Live Auction and Wine Pull at the Top of the Met. My name is Jayme and I found myself living at Our Lady’s Inn in 2012. My husband and I have been together for 18 years, we have two beautiful girls, 12 & 6, and expecting our first boy in October. I had been working as a Staff Accountant in the medical field and was laid off due to budget cuts. I enrolled back into college and in August 2011 I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Science with a Major in Accounting. However, our family struggled to make ends meet. My husband worked days and weeks at a time as a Professional truck driver all over the U.S. At the same time I found it difficult to find employment due to the economy. Joe’s company was also negatively impacted by the economy resulting in Joe being laid off. We had to relocate to a smaller and more affordable residence.

All of these pressures affected our marriage to the point where we weren’t sure it would survive. Then we found out God blessed us with another child and it started bringing us closer together. Not much later we lost our new home. This was a blessing in disguise because I was faced with finding a stable place to be able to take care of myself mentally, emotionally, physically and financially. I came to OLI on the 11th of July scared, anxious, and with feelings of loneliness. I was confused about where my life was going in terms of my marriage, my health and stability. The staff helped me feel at home and were the rock that I leaned on for support and confidence in myself again; they helped me feel comfortable in allowing myself to deal with childhood trauma issues I never dealt with or even spoke about before.

They encouraged and guided me through the beginning of the emotional healing process and without that I believe I would have not addressed those old deep wounds. Staff helped me obtain mental health services at Center Pointe which was the start of my mental and emotional healing. I started receiving counseling at Catholic Family Services and House of Refuge Ministries.

The 3rd Annual Luncheon for Life at Wine Country Gardens, held on September 26th, was a sell-out with over 240 guests enjoying the afternoon. Over $17,000 was raised in support of Our Lady’s Inn! Guests were treated to a delicious lunch, live and silent auctions and a fabulous jewelry show. We were also very pleased to be able to honor Rosemary Grove for their partnership with Our Lady’s Inn and the Pay-It-Forward Program.

Scene following the Feast of Epiphany,

I was reminded of the evening I watched

my four year old granddaughter set up

the scene with such care. In her effort

to make it perfect for the Baby Jesus,

she cleaned out all the straw I had laid

in the stable. I explained the straw was

supposed to be there, that Jesus was

born in a stable with straw and animals.

She was outraged that Jesus was, in her

words: “born in a dirty barn”; exclaiming

“it’s just not right!”

As we look back upon the blessings of

2012, we find we have so much to be

thankful for. Sixteen babies were born to

mothers living at our Defiance facility and

thirty babies to mothers sheltered in our

St. Louis City home. In addition to the

forty-five mothers who delivered while

residing with us, many more expectant

mothers resided with us in their time of

greatest need and, with services and

advocacy support from our staff, were

able to move their families into a stable

housing situation prior to giving birth.

These mothers and these children did not

suffer the indignity our Blessed Mother

endured, as each found safety, support

and clean comfort at Our Lady’s Inn.

Thank you for assisting us to care for each

pregnant woman who knocks at our door

seeking shelter, hope and affirmation in

her choice for life.

A new 2012 Chevy Cruze was gifted to Our Lady’s Inn by James Sumner and we are so grateful for his thoughtful generosity. James had bequeathed his older model mini-van to Our Lady’s Inn; he knew that our rural location in Defiance made transporting our mothers and children to school, and medical appointments a challenge. An accident last January totaled the mini-van and he purchased a brand new Chevy Cruze. In September 2012, James unexpectedly passed away, and his children, wanting to honor their father’s wishes, called to let us know that we would be receiving this wonderful gift from their father’s estate. This Chevy Cruze will be used primarily by staff in our St. Charles County location for aftercare home visits and to transport our moms and their children to appointments. We are most grateful for the generosity displayed by two generations of this wonderful family! It is never too early to begin planning for the future. Through these services and the OLI

staff my marriage has begun the healing

process and is moving towards being fully

restored. I have already completed

outpatient at Center Pointe services and

really feel I’ve made a lot of progress. My

next goals are to continue with my mental,

emotional, and spiritual growth. I look

forward to finding full-time employment,

saving for our own home, and bringing my

family back together. I am honored and

privileged to share my experience with the

caring and generous people who make

OLI possible. The staff truly lives its

Mission “providing pregnant women and

their children shelter and hope for a new

life through humble acts of love.”

On October 4th, I gave birth to

Alexander. The celebration at the house

when we came home was wonderful. On

the fourth day of Alexander’s life, we were

back in the hospital due to his high level

of jaundice and his need to be under a

bilirubin light. We were there for 36 hours

and the staff at OLI was as supportive as a

family would be. A few weeks later, I got

an opportunity for a permanent home

placement grant and on November 22nd

moved into an apartment. I have been

blessed with continued after care services

from Our Lady’s Inn by having a family

specialist to counsel me with job

placement, mental health, and my faith.

My marriage is growing stronger

by putting God first in our marriage

and concentrating on our gratefulness

for His Mercy and thankfulness for every

breath He gives us. I love that I have

the support from Our Lady’s Inn because

I do not feel that I am alone just because

I am not residing in the home.

I am grateful to God for His Blessings,

especially for the blessing of my children

and Our Lady’s Inn.
