A MESSAGE FROM THE CEO
I’ve worked in the non-profit world for over 30 years. There are so many ways this work
has been a gift. The opportunity to help people move from despair and darkness to hope
and light. The amazing staff and volunteers that give tirelessly of themselves to ensure
that clients are getting the best assistance possible. The mother who comes back to see
you five years after leaving the program; to show you her son’s high school graduation
pictures and his college admission letter. She cries as she hugs you and says thank you for
changing my life, I cry as I thank her for her courage, strength and determination.
Fundraising to ensure the resources to do this tremendous work is a part of the non-profit
world that is sometimes viewed as a burden versus a gift. But I want to tell you that your
generosity as sponsors of our annual events has been a gift to me and all of us at PADV.
Seeing our sponsors graciously and enthusiastically support our mission to end the crime
of intimate partner violence has demonstrated how much our community does care, and
the great commitment that exists from many diverse companies and organizations to change and save lives.
Together, this past year we raised over $765,000 through Partnership Against Domestic Violence’s special events;
these dollars were used to touch over 25,000 lives.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for being such strong and generous partners with us. As PADV commemorates its
fortieth year of service provision, let us continue to work together to create a community of safe and peaceful homes,
so that forty years from now we can turn out the lights, close the door and say, “Mission accomplished, job well
done!”
Sincerely,
Nancy Friauf
President and CEO

OUR MISSION
PADV’s vision is a community free of domestic violence. Therefore, we work diligently to end the crime of
intimate partner violence and empower its survivors. Our organization has grown considerably since its
founding in 1977, and we have helped bring about invaluable victories in the lives of those we serve. Still,
intimate partner violence affects thousands of Georgians every year, so PADV’s work is far from over. Did you
know?
1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner (e.g., hit with a fist or something hard, beaten, slammed against something) at some point in his or her lifetime. 1
85% of domestic violence victims are women, 15% are men.2
Firearms were the cause of death in 70% of recorded domestic violence fatalities in 2016.2
69% of female homicides were committed with handguns, 63% were wives of their killers.3
SURVIVOR STORY
“Mary” moved to the United States from Indonesia after marrying her husband. Shortly after arriving in the
States, Mary began to suffer from his emotional, physical and financial abuse. The severity of the violence
increased after Mary’s mother-in-law moved in the home, as her husband’s mother was also abusive to Mary.
Mary felt terribly trapped in this nightmare, and that there was no one to turn to for help, no place to go to
escape. The abuse from both her husband and mother-in-law was relentless!
After years of abuse, Mary managed to flee the state with her two children, searching for safety and security.
Unfortunately, her abuser was able to locate her and accused her of kidnapping their children and stealing his
money. The abuser then petitioned the court to have their children taken from Mary and require her to pay him
child support.
The tide began to turn for Mary when she was referred to PADV and entered our shelter. We worked with her on
maintaining custody of her children, and connecting Mary with an attorney through Atlanta Legal Aid Society.
Standing in court with her PADV legal advocate and legal aid attorney, Mary wept tears of joy and relief as she
listened to the judge grant her legal custody of her children, drop all the charges her husband brought against
her, and grant her a temporary protective order that would help facilitate her journey to safety and freedom.
After her legal victory, Mary continued her stay at our PADV shelter, gaining employment, housing and a divorce
from her husband. She celebrates her safe, peaceful and loving life with her children. We celebrate her victory,
and are always happy to get her positive updates when she checks in with us.

PADV’s Third Annual Women In Action Forum shed light on
widely held stereotypes of domestic violence victims and dispelled the myths that victims are usually of a lower socio-economic status, uneducated and weak-willed. The event featured testimony from Charmagne Helton, survivor and member of the PADV Board of Directors, and a panel discussion. Guest also enjoyed a tasty breakfast buffet and a marketplace of vendors for shopping.

WINE PAIRING DINNER The Ritz-Carlton Buckhead 3.09.2017
A three course meal, paired with wine, over two hours, for one worthy cause. In March, PADV hosted an exclusive wine pairing dinner at The Ritz-Carlton Buckhead for the early, high-level sponsors that have pledged their support to the Hearts with Hope Gala. Guests learned about the metamorphosis that battered women journey through as PADV helps them evolve from a deeply hurt victim to a triumphant survivor.

5.29.2017
The 29th Annual Hearts with Hope Gala was the most
successful event in our organization’s history. This exquisite fundraiser featured a silent and live auction, live entertainment and the outstanding food and service of The Ritz-Carlton Buckhead. With a room more than 500 guests, we reaffirmed our commitment to supporting women, men and children as they work toward healing from the physical and emotional scars of domestic violence.

OUR IMPACT
Partnership Against Domestic Violence (PADV) has provided professional, compassionate and empowering support to battered women and their children since 1977. We are the largest nonprofit domestic violence organization in Georgia and our mission is to end the crime of intimate partner violence and empower its survivors. Over the last year, we provided each of the following programs and services free of charge to those in need.
CRISIS LINES
8,217 calls were fielded by PADV’s crisis lines. They provide safety planning,
information and support to callers in immediate danger, and to those with questions about others who may be battered.
SAFE HOUSES
563 women and children were residents at PADV’s safe houses. PADV has two
shelter locations with a total of 96 beds. During their stay, residents receive assistance with legal advocacy, support groups, clothing, food, housing referrals, childcare, transportation and job opportunities.
LEGAL ADVOCACY
5,193 individuals were assisted with legal advocacy support. As a part of PADV’s
legal advocacy services, we prepare temporary protection orders, assist clients in completing legal paperwork and advocate for the domestic violence survivor in the often intimidating and complex judicial system.
SUPPORT GROUPS
759 women collectively attended 3,479 hours of support group sessions. Support
groups provide assistance to women who have left violent relationships or continue to live with their abuser. These women share experiences, offer encouragement and generate ideas on ways to live violence free.
PREVENTION & OUTREACH
120 community presentations were made to a total of 6,798 participants. PADV
believes that education is the key to ending domestic violence on a community wide level. We strive to teach and enhance the public’s awareness and ability to speak out against domestic violence through our education and prevention efforts. We reach diverse groups including law enforcement, business, Latino groups, faith-based organizations, men and civic groups.
TEEN DATING
VIOLENCE
To have a strong impact on ending the crime of intimate partner violence, we have to start with youth. PADV provided 163 teen dating violence prevention program events, reaching 5,238 youth, parents and youth serving adults.
SUPPORTIVE HOUSING
55 people were served through PADV’s Supportive Housing Program. It assists
battered women in their efforts to gain independence from their abuser. This program offers rental, utility, childcare, employment, legal and educational financial assistance.

Our events play a significant role in our pursuit to educate the metro Atlanta community on
intimate partner violence and enlist their help in our fight against abuse. We greatly appreciate
