Important Information … MPS website: www.moree-p.schools.nsw.edu.au/ • 100 Club – Home readers are to be congratulated for their commitment to the home reading program: Moses Humphries; Stella Burey-Tonkin; Beau Bridge; Lucas Buckingham; Eva Creighton; Olivia Bouliopoulos; Nate Grasnick. . Special moments … We were delighted to be able to present Year 6 student, Jesse James with a medallion for his participation in the National Cross Country Championships held at Hobart late last term. As a Moree Public School student who has represented at a national title event, Jesse’s photograph now joins the gallery of students (1990 – current) who have achieved this level of distinction in either sport or academia. It is certainly inspirational to view the photographs and consider their current whereabouts and professions – England, Italy, Queensland university and two physiotherapists! We are always interested in hearing about our former students, so parents and grandparents, please feel free to let us know their interesting updates. Congratulations, Jesse – we share your pride, Mr & Mrs James. 2018 Student Leaders The process for electing 2018 student leaders is now underway. On Friday (27 th October) the boys who have nominated for the election will be presenting a brief speech of introduction at the primary assembly. We wish them the best of luck. While they are giving themselves a chance to be elected as a student leader, they are also taking a risk of perhaps missing out and being disappointed. However, I do say, very loudly, Good on you boys for having a go and taking a chance. Your teachers will be proud of you and I’m sure your parents will be very proud as well. Go for it! State athletics is always a great experience and we also extend congratulations to Connor Ross, Charlie Grant, Darcy Brazel, Sam Custance, Jesse James and Kye Boland on representing Moree Public School at the NSW PSSA athletics carnival at Homebush last week. Being selected to participate against the best, from across NSW is a wonderful achievement. LMBR (computer system) is now the MPS office system as we changed over to the new software last Monday. The eftpos and Parent On-line Payment portal services are again available and we thank everyone for their patience as we work through a few teething issues that may arise over the next few weeks. P&C Meeting held last Monday night was very productive. There is a lot of work going into organising the school fete. The P&C is still looking for helpers on some stalls so if you have time available please contact Ms Megan Miller or Mrs Trish Humphries. Contact details are included in the attached flyer. Visitors to the school are most welcome. In fact, we had a retired couple, travelling through from Sydney last Friday. They were eager to see where their aunt, Miss Ree had taught in her first appointment of around 1939. We also like to see parents coming to help with reading groups, to watch assemblies and sporting events. However, in the interest of child safety we do need to know who is in the school at any time. We ask that all visitors - parents, friends and trades people assist us by checking in at the office prior to going into the school grounds. Please do not go directly to classrooms or the playground. If you need to give your child lunch or money we will make arrangements for it to be given to your child at the next class break. Similarly, if you need to collect your children from school please attend the office and we will arrange for him/her to come across from class. Your support in following this process is appreciated. Year 7 Selective High School in 2019 applications to sit the placement test are now invited through the website: https://education.nsw.gov.au/selective-high-schools-and- opportunity-classes/year-7 with a closing date of 13 November Mr A. 7. DEBATING BEN VENUE UNDERDOGS The MPS Thistles – Millicent Beattie, Michelle Dunlop, Kalaini Bartlett and Ella Coulton have debated their way to the regional finals, hosted yesterday at Moree Public. The topic, That primary teachers should set projects for homework during the holidays proved rather difficult to argue! Ms Mary Atkin viewing the debate in Sydney via a VC link-up indicated that she had been both entertained and challenged as an adjudicator. Following her lengthy deliberation Ms Atkin awarded the debate to Ben Venue by a narrow margin. Congratulations to the Thistles and coach, Mr McDonald and thank you to Chairperson, Gabrielle Elbourne. This is the first year for quite some time that MPS has entered the NSW Premier’s Debating competition – we look forward to building upon the experiences in 2018. Mr McDonald and Mrs Hosegood have been thrilled with the enthusiasm and skill development of the 12 students who have participated. Well done!
