CELEBRATE YOUR IMPORTANT OCCASIONS BY GIVING IT FORWARD.

IN 1988, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) signed a historic agreement in which the IOC officially endorses and recognizes Special Olympics.

Special Olympics should not be con-fused with Paralympics which pro-vides elite level sports competition for multi-disabled groups including physical and blind.

SPECIAL OLYMPICS INTERNATIONAL (S.O.I.) is the world’s largest sports organization, providing year-round training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Estabilished in 1968 by the vision of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Special Olympics now serves more than 3.1 million athletes in 175 countries. It gives opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and share gifts, skills and friendships with families, other athletes and the community.

SPECIALOLYMPICSHUNGARY

THERE ARE MORE THAN A HUNDRED-THOUSAND PEOPLE with intellectual dis-abilities living in Hungary. The most important activity for them is sport in their everyday life.

Special Olympics Hungary was founded in 1989 - first of all for abolitions of the social disadvan-tages and for the presentation and exploitation of sport values.

Special Olympics involves athletes from all ability levels with participation from the full range of intellectual disability. In order to assure fair competition, Special Olympics athletes are placed in ”divisions” with other athletes of similar ability. Each division is a ”final” allowing all ath-letes a fair opportunity to compete with a chance to win. This system is designed to challenge each athlete to do his or her best while providing a meaningful and enjoyable experience.

S.O. INTERNATIONAL

SPECIAL OLYMPICS HUNGARY empowers people with intellectual dis-abilities to realize their full potential and develop their skills through year-round sports training and competition. As a result, Special Olympics athletes become fulfilled and productive members of their families and the communities in which they live.

Our daily, year-round mission is to provide sports training and competition for people with intellectual disabilities. The result is that lives change — not only the lives of Special Olympics athletes, but also those of every-one they touch. This includes many leaders, CEOs and celebrities, musicians, actors and actresses, Olympians who lend their support to Special Olympics, helping to raise aware-ness and funds for the movement.

CHILDREN AND ADULTS with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics develop improved physical fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence and a more posi-tive self-image.

THERE ARE MORE THAN 80 local, regional and national competi-tion opportunities provided yearly for Special Olympics athletes in Hungary. The Hungarian media follows our bigger events with attention, as well as national games or international tournaments. They shoot every noti-cable moment of our moment which is reported in every major public and commercial television channel as well as the press.

There is no charge to Special Olympics athletes to participate in the movement. Individual donors, corporate partners and many others make it possible for Special Olympics to offer children and adults with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demon-strate courage and experience joy.

Despite the proof that people with intellectual disabilities can thrive, educational opportunities, community programs and support are weak. Even after years of progress, we still have a long way to go. With your support we can change things for the better. GET INVOLVED OR DONATE NOW AND PROMOTE DIGNITY AND INCLUSION FOR ALL!
