I. INFORMACIÓN GENERAL DEL CURSO
A. Descripción del curso
Este curso cubre la exploración y familiarización con el desarrollo del campo de la tecnología de
asistencia como un medio para promover la participación independiente de los estudiantes
excepcionales en el ambiente escolar y en su comunidad. Los estudiantes analizarán el concepto
de tecnología asistiva y su rol en la extensión de las habilidades sociales, cognitivas, física y de
comunicativas del estudiante con necesidades especiales, según establecido por la Ley para la
Educación de los Individuos con Discapacidades (IDEA, por sus siglas en inglés) (1997). El
curso integra la aplicación y evaluación de tecnología asistiva para estudiantes con diversos
impedimentos, principalmente los recomendados por la Asociación de industria de tecnología
asistiva (ATIA, por sus siglas en inglés). El curso explora la práctica y uso de equipos y
accesorios de tecnología asistiva. También incluye la aplicación, observación, análisis y
desarrollo de instrumentos de evaluación y planificación de clases; al igual que el uso
responsable de la tecnología.
B. Objetivos de contenido
Al finalizar el curso, el estudiante será capaz de:
1. Analizar cómo los marcos teóricos y la base legal, para personas con discapacidades,
garantizan la utilización de la asistencia tecnológica.
2. Determinar la utilización de varios programas, dispositivos electrónicos y otros recursos de
asistencia tecnológica para proveer acomodos razonables a estudiantes con diferentes
discapacidades en las materias de contenido como escritura, lectura y matemática.
3. Evaluar cómo los componentes de una evaluación de asistencia tecnológica efectiva se
utilizan para diseñar metas específicas para el Plan de Educación Individual (PEI o IEP,
por sus siglas en inglés), según el área de apoyo y la discapacidad del estudiante.

4. Diseñar un dispositivo de asistencia electrónica para promover la vida independiente en la
comunidad mientras se justifican las ventajas, beneficios, obstáculos y las alternativas de
diferentes equipos y tecnología.
C. Objetivos de lenguaje
Al finalizar el curso, el estudiante será capaz de:
1. Analizar cómo los componentes de una evaluación de asistencia tecnológica efectiva se
utilizan para diseñar metas específicas para el Plan de Educación Individual (PEI o IEP,
por sus siglas en inglés), según el área de apoyo y la discapacidad del estudiante, mientras
recibe información de manera auditiva durante discursos orales del curso.
2. Explicar oralmente, con propiedad y corrección, cómo los marcos teóricos y la base legal,
para personas con discapacidades, garantizan la utilización de la asistencia tecnológica.
3. Desarrollar un dispositivo de asistencia electrónica, basada en las lecturas asignadas para
el curso, para promover la vida independiente en la comunidad mientras se justifican las
ventajas, beneficios, obstáculos y las alternativas de diferentes equipos y tecnología.
4. Evaluar, en un ensayo analítico, la utilización de varios programas, dispositivos
electrónicos y otros recursos de asistencia tecnológica para proveer acomodos razonables a
estudiantes con diferentes discapacidades en las materias de contenido como escritura,
lectura y matemática, mientras redacta sus ideas de manera organizada y coherente.

E. Reglas de administración del curso
Como requisitos específicos del curso, el estudiante
1. Completará cuatro pruebas cortas que se administrarán a lo largo del curso. Dichas pruebas
se completarán luego de haber concluido el taller por medio de la plataforma de Blackboard.
Cada estudiante es responsable de acceder a Blackboard y completar la prueba corta
correspondiente a cada taller. El facilitador preparará dichas pruebas cortas utilizando la
herramienta de curso de Tests y se encargará de exhibir el enlace de dichas pruebas en el
área de Course Menu en la plataforma de Blackboard. De esta manera, los estudiantes
podrán acceder a la prueba corta una vez concluya el taller y tendrán un máximo de cuarenta
y ocho (48) horas para completarlo. Es decir, una vez se finalice el taller, la prueba corta
permanecerá disponible por dos días. Luego de las cuarenta y ocho horas el enlace de dicha
prueba no permitirá acceso y el estudiante no podrá obtener una calificación por dicho
criterio de evaluación. Las pruebas cortas se administrarán como sigue:
a. Taller Uno (en español) - El contenido específico correspondiente a la prueba corta #1
se encuentra en la página 28 de este módulo.
b. Taller Dos- (en inglés) - El contenido específico correspondiente a la prueba corta #2
se encuentra en la página 38 de este módulo.
c. Taller Tres (en español) - El contenido específico correspondiente a la prueba corta #3
se encuentra en la página 45 de este módulo.
d. Taller Cuatro (en inglés) - El contenido específico correspondiente a la prueba corta
#4 se encuentra en la página 52 de este módulo.
2. Preparará un proyecto final del curso que consta de un ensayo analítico individual (en
español) y una presentación audiovisual grupal o individual (en inglés); ambos componentes
se entregarán en el Taller Cinco. El componente audiovisual del proyecto final se realizará

de manera individual o grupal dependiendo de la cantidad de estudiantes matriculados en el
curso. Las instrucciones de dicho proyecto se encuentran en la página 28 del módulo.

II. GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION
A. Course Description
This course explores and familiarizes the student with the development of assistive technology
as a means to promote independent participation of the exceptional student in the school
environment and in his or her community. Students will analyze the concept of assistive
technology and its role of extending the social, cognitive, physical and communicative
abilities of the student with special needs, as established in the Individuals with Disabilities
Education Act (IDEA). This course integrates the application and evaluation of assistive
technologies used for students with different impairments, mainly those recommended by the
Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA). Students will practice and apply
equipment and accessories related to assistive technology. The course also includes the
application, observation, analysis, and development of assessment instruments and planning
lessons, as well as the responsible use of technology.
B. Content Objectives
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to
1. Analyze how the theoretical and legal framework of special education laws guarantee
assistive technology to students with impairments.
2. Determine the use of a variety of assistive technology programs, devices, software, and
other resources to provide accommodations for students with different impairments in
specific content areas.
3. Evaluate how the components of an effective assistive technology assessment are used
to design specific goals for a student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) plan according
to the area of support and the disability.

4. Design an assistive technology device used to promote independent living in the
community while evaluating benefits, obstacles, and alternatives of different equipment
and technology.
C. Language Objectives
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to
1. Analyze how the components of an effective assistive technology assessment are used
to design specific goals for a student’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) plan according
to the area of support and the disability, while using auditory skills to receive
information during the oral discussions throughout the course.
2. Explain orally, with correctness and accuracy, how the theoretical and legal framework
of special education laws guarantee assistive technology to students with impairments.
3. Develop an assistive technology device, based on the assigned readings for the course,
used to promote independent living in the community, while evaluating benefits,
obstacles, and alternatives of different equipment and technology.
4. Evaluate, in an analytic essay, the use of a variety of assistive technology programs,
devices, software, and other resources to provide accommodations for students with
different impairments in specific content areas, while writing his or her ideas in an
organized and coherent manner.

E. Course Management Rules
The student will comply with the following specific requirements:
1. Complete four short quizzes throughout the course. Each short quiz must be completed
after each workshop has concluded using the Blackboard platform. Students are
responsible for accessing Blackboard and completing the short quiz that corresponds to
each workshop. The facilitator will prepare these short quizzes using the Tests course tool
and will display the link of said quizzes in the Course Menu section in the Blackboard
platform. In this way, students will be able to access the short quizzes once the workshop
has concluded, and will have a maximum of forty-eight (48) hours to complete each one.
That is, once the workshop has concluded, the short quiz will remain available for two
days. After the forty-eight hours have expired, the link of the short quiz will no longer
allow access and the student will not be able to obtain a grade for that evaluation criterion.
The short quizzes will be administered as follows:

28 of this module.
b. Workshop Two (in English) - Content related to this quiz #2 can be found on
page 38 of this module.

2. Prepare a final project of the course consisting of an individual analytical essay (in
Spanish) and a group or individual audiovisual presentation (in English); both components
will be delivered in Workshop Five. The final project will be completed individually or in
groups depending on the number of students enrolled in the course. For more details
regarding this final project, refer to page 28 of this module.
3. Refer to the Student’s Course Guide, which can be found under the Course Guide section

TALLER UNO
A. Objetivos de contenido
Durante el taller, el estudiante será capaz de:
1. Explicar los términos de tecnología, tecnología educativa, asistencia tecnológica, tecnología
educativa y adaptiva, incluyendo los profesionales en el área de trabajo.
2. Destacar las siete categorías de los dispositivos de asistencia tecnológica.
3. Considerar la manera en la cual la asistencia tecnológica se incluye en la Ley para la
Educación de los Individuos con Discapacidades (IDEA, por sus siglas en inglés), la Ley para
Personas con Discapacidades del 1990 (ADA, por sus siglas en inglés) y el Acta de
Rehabilitación de 1998.
4. Valorar la importancia de los distintos componentes del Marco Adaptativo.
B. Objetivos de lenguaje
Durante el taller, el estudiante será capaz de:
1. Categorizar imágenes de tecnología asistiva utilizado por una persona con discapacidades
según su uso, al escuchar las diversas opiniones que compartan los compañeros de clase y el
facilitador.
2. Explicar oralmente, con fluidez y pronunciación adecuada los términos de tecnología,
tecnología educativa, asistencia tecnológica, tecnología educativa y adaptiva acerca de la y los
profesionales involucrados, utilizando una guía visual.
3. Bosquejar información, basado en el capítulo asignado, acerca de la asistencia técnológica y la
manera en la cual se incluye en la Ley IDEA, Ley ADA y el Acta de Rehabilitación de 1998,
de manera que facilite su comprensión de lectura.
4. Describir las adaptaciones de asistencia tecnológica y explicar cómo seleccionar y evaluar el
uso de dichas adaptaciones por medio de un flujograma, mientras evita los vicios de redacción.

2. Reflexione sobre las invenciones que hacen las cosas posibles para las personas con
discapacidades. Por ejemplo, piense en un niño con espina bífida y dificultades para caminar;
este individuo podría utilizar un control remoto para encender las luces debido a su dificultad
para ponerse de pie. Basado en esta premisa, vaya al foro de discusión escrita creado por el
facilitador dentro del área de Discussion del curso en Blackboard y discuta las siguientes
preguntas:
a. ¿Cuál es el dispositivo de tecnología asistida y cuál es la tecnología de servicio que este
niño está recibiendo?
b. ¿Qué otras adaptaciones se pueden utilizar en este caso?
Comente con al menos un párrafo de cinco oraciones proponiendo sus recomendaciones.
Utilice como referencia el material asignado de los capítulos uno y dos del libro de texto

3. Observe a su alrededor, su hogar, el trabajo o una escuela de su comunidad. Tome fotos o
consiga imágenes de ejemplos de tecnología asistida utilizados por una persona con
discapacidades en dichos contextos de su comunidad. Lleve sus fotos o imágenes al taller para
una actividad colaborativa.
4. Diseñe un flujograma vertical (vertical flowchart) que describa las adaptaciones de asistencia
tecnológica y explique cómo seleccionar y evaluar el uso de dichas adaptaciones. Utilice la

6. Lea total y detalladamente el Digital Performance Portfolio Assessment Handbook que se
encuentra en Blackboard y siga los siguientes pasos:
a. Prepare la portada, según indica la sección titulada Performance Portfolio
Template.
b. Pase la sección de la tabla de contenido.
c. Redacte su introducción en inglés.
d. Escriba su autobiografía en español.
e. Oprima el enlace llamado Digital Portfolio, que se encuentra en el menú del
curso en el margen izquierdo de la pantalla.
f. Seleccione la carpeta que corresponda a la misma cantidad de talleres que tiene
su curso (5).
g. Descargue el Digital Portfolio Zip Folder
i. Ahí encontrará por lo menos cinco carpetas. Al final del curso, esta sección
contará con una carpeta por taller.
ii. Semanalmente guardará todos los trabajos que usted realizó y el facilitador
evaluó, junto a sus respectivas rúbricas, según la semana y la actividad que
corresponda.
iii. De esa manera, su portafolio digital está listo para que lo enriquezca con el
material educativo que usted genere, semana tras semana, a lo largo del
curso.
iv. Seleccione la carpeta que corresponda a la misma cantidad de talleres que

E. Actividades de aplicación durante el taller
1. El facilitador proveerá a los estudiantes su información de contacto, y se elegirá al
representante estudiantil.
2. El facilitador explicará detenidamente los requisitos y objetivos de contenido y lenguaje del
curso, así como los componentes teóricos. Además, aclarará el propósito del portafolio digital
y aprovechará la ocasión para especificar aquellas actividades (antes y durante el taller) que se
incluirán en el mismo, así como los recordatorios que dará semanalmente.
3. El facilitador se cerciorará de que los alumnos tengan acceso a los recursos de Blackboard y el
E-Lab. También se asegurará de que los estudiantes entiendan las expectativas generales y las
normas específicas del curso. Igualmente, destacará la importancia de familiarizarse con todo el
contenido del módulo y la forma en que se evaluará su desempeño.
4. El facilitador dividirá los estudiantes en subgrupos. Cada grupo preparará y utilizará una guía
visual conocida como hoja de rotafolio (anchor chart paper). En dicha hoja, los estudiantes
explicarán a través de un dibujo uno de los siguientes conceptos asignados por el facilitador:
a. Tecnología
b. Tecnología educativa
c. Asistencia tecnológica
d. Servicios de asistencia tecnológica
e. Adaptaciones
Los estudiantes utilizarán los bosquejos redactados, como parte de las actividades previas al
taller, para incluir en su explicación detalles sobre los profesionales claves involucrados en el
área de trabajo. Cada grupo presentará su hoja y explicará el concepto asignado, mientras aplica
correctamente la terminología de la materia. Esta actividad será evaluada y deberá ser incluido
en el portafolio digital.

5. Los alumnos exhibirán las imágenes de tecnología asistiva utilizado por una persona con
discapacidades en los contextos de su comunidad. Los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de
caminar y observar las imágenes de sus compañeros. Guiados por el facilitador, los estudiantes
discutirán los ejemplos y como dichas imágenes se pueden clasificar en las diferentes
categorías de asistencia tecnológica. El facilitador mostrará una serie de imágenes/ejemplos
utilizando una presentación audiovisual, que incluye las siguientes categorías:
a. Comunicación oral (problemas del habla)
b. Apoyo en las materias básicas escritura, lectura y matemáticas
c. Impedimento físico (movilidad) (posición)
d. Impedimento visual
e. Impedimento auditivo
f. Vida independiente
g. Acceso a la tecnología (computadora)
6. Reunidos en mesa redonda, y guiados por el facilitador, los estudiantes discutirán las siguientes
preguntas:
a. ¿Qué incluye la IDEA 2004 en cuanto a asistencia tecnológica? (escolar)
b. ¿Cómo impacta el Acta de Rehabilitación de 1998 (también conocido como el
Acta de rehabilitación vocacional) a los servicios de asistencia tecnológica?
(transición a la vida adulta independiente)
Esta actividad será evaluada y deberá ser incluido en el portafolio digital.
7. El facilitador creará el esqueleto de un cuadro descriptivo (tipo de organizador gráfico)
utilizando la pizarra o con una hoja de rotafolio (anchor chart paper). Les proveerá a los
estudiantes franjas (sentence strips) para escribir y explicar la importancia de los conceptos del
Marco de Adaptaciones. Dichas franjas se colocarán en el centro del cuadro descriptivo.

a. Luego, los alumnos compartirán información acerca de cómo cada concepto ayuda en la
consideración, selección y evaluación de equipo asistivo. Dicha información será
añadida en los espacios que giran alrededor del tema principal en el centro del
organizador gráfico.
b. El facilitador utilizará el siguiente modelo para crear el esqueleto de un cuadro
descriptivo:

8. El facilitador brindará los detalles específicos de las cuatro pruebas cortas que se administrarán
a lo largo del curso. Dichas pruebas se completarán luego de haber concluido el taller por
medio de la plataforma de Blackboard. Cada estudiante es responsable de acceder a Blackboard
y completar la prueba corta correspondiente a dicho taller. Las pruebas cortas se administrarán
como sigue:
a. Taller Uno- en español
b. Taller Dos- en inglés
c. Taller Tres- en español
d. Taller Cuatro- en inglés
El facilitador preparará dicha prueba corta utilizando la herramienta de curso de Tests y se
encargará de exhibir el enlace de dicha prueba en el área de Course Menu en la plataforma de
Cuadro descriptivo

Blackboard. De esta manera, los estudiantes podrán acceder a la prueba corta una vez concluya
el taller y tendrán un máximo de cuarenta y ocho (48) horas para completarlo. Es decir, una vez
se finalice el taller las pruebas cortas permanecerán disponibles por dos días. Luego de las
cuarenta y ocho horas el enlace de dicha prueba no permitirá acceso y el estudiante no podrá
obtener una calificación por dicho criterio de evaluación.
9. El facilitador les recordará a los estudiantes completar, una vez concluya el taller, la prueba
corta #1 correspondiente al Taller Uno. Dicha prueba consistirá de los siguientes temas:
a. La asistencia tecnológica incluida en la Ley para la Educación de los
Individuos con Discapacidades (IDEA, por sus siglas en inglés), la Ley para
Personas con Discapacidades del 1990 (ADA, por sus siglas en inglés) y el
Acta de Rehabilitación de 1998.
Esta actividad será evaluada; por lo tanto, el facilitador les recordará a los alumnos incluir una
copia corregida en su portafolio digital.
10. El facilitador ofrecerá los detalles relacionados con el contenido y formato del proyecto final
del curso que consiste de un ensayo analítico individual (en español) y una presentación
audiovisual individual o grupal (en inglés); ambos componentes se entregarán en el Taller
Cinco. El proyecto final se realizará de manera individual o grupal dependiendo la cantidad de
estudiantes matriculados.
a. El tema del trabajo final girará en torno a la asistencia tecnológica y la
tecnología educativa utilizada para las áreas de escritura, lectura y
matemáticas en la sala de clases; a tales efectos, el facilitador asignará la
materia específica de manera que los estudiantes los trabajen ya sea de
manera individual o grupal.
b. Dicho proyecto deberá abarcar los acomodos, programas y asistencia
tecnológica que existen para impactar la materia asignada y explicar la

manera en que la asistencia tecnológica y tecnología puede mejorar las
destrezas básicas, según la materia asignada.
c. El componente escrito del proyecto consta de un ensayo analítico:
i. Los estudiantes redactarán un ensayo analítico, de al menos cinco
párrafos, sobre el subtema asignado.
ii. Los ensayos deberán ser redactados según APA y deben incluir las
citas y referencias correspondientes al material informativo utilizado
por el estudiante. La estructura del ensayo debe incluir lo siguiente:
1. Introducción- Un párrafo introductorio donde se exprese la
idea principal de su ensayo.
2. Desarrollo- tres párrafos donde se exponen varias razones
que apoyan la idea principal.
3. Conclusión- un párrafo donde el estudiante reafirma su
punto de vista y razones.
ii. Enviarán su documento al NetTutor Paper Center; para ello deben:
1. Acceder el E-Lab, escoger el NetTutor y la opción
“Laboratorio de escritura en la red”. Luego, elegir
NetTutor Paper Center Submission Form.
2. Seleccionar Grammar & Mechanics y Transitions &
Fluency para fortalecer la gramática e incorporarán
correctamente las palabras de transición a lo largo del
escrito.
3. Finalmente, cargarán su documento en formato PDF y
seleccionarán Upload.

iii. Los estudiantes deben incorporar la retroalimentación de NetTutor a
su ensayo antes de ser entregado al facilitador.
iv. Preservarán la estructura del ensayo y lo enviarán al facilitador a
través de Blackboard, antes de llegar al Taller Cinco.
v. El facilitador enviará los trabajos escritos a SafeAssignTM
para
detectar casos de plagio.
d. El componente oral del proyecto final consta de una presentación
audiovisual:
i. La presentación audiovisual individual o grupal (en inglés) se basará en
el tema del ensayo analítico que redactó en español.
ii. El facilitador determinará la cantidad de estudiantes que compondrán el
grupo (según aplique) y el tiempo máximo de dicha presentación.
iii. Redactarán su presentación audiovisual en PowerPoint®, Prezi u otro
programa computadorizado que apruebe el facilitador.
Esta actividad será evaluada, por lo tanto, los estudiantes deben incluir una copia del trabajo
corregido en el portafolio digital, junto a su rúbrica, bajo la semana que le corresponde, una vez
el facilitador lo devuelva corregido.
11. Los estudiantes escribirán su autorreflexión acerca de la importancia de la base legal (Ley
IDEA, Ley ADA y Acta de Rehabilitación) discutida en clase en cuánto a la asistencia
tecnológica.
a. Si el tiempo apremia, y el facilitador lo autoriza, los estudiantes podrían enviar su
documento vía Blackboard al facilitador, antes de que comiencen a realizar las
actividades previas al próximo taller.

próximo taller. Repasará con los alumnos las actividades y rúbricas que deben colocar en el
portafolio digital, una vez los corrija y los devuelva a los estudiantes.

2. Find one example of a low assistive technology activity or manipulative that can be used to
provide academic instruction for students in each of the following areas: reading, writing, and
mathematics. For example, look for ideas on how to teach the component of phonological
awareness in the area of reading. Prepare and bring an anchor chart with information or the
manipulative to the workshop. This activity is necessary in order to complete the second part
during the workshop.
3. Access the course blog created by the facilitator in Blackboard and create an entry sharing
your ideas on how to use assistive technology to address the different components of reading,
writing, and mathematics. Afterward, read the blog entry of at least three of your classmates
and react to each entry with specific and constructive feedback related to the effectiveness of
the ideas presented. This activity will be evaluated and must be placed within the digital
portfolio.
4. Continue working on the effective completion of the oral presentation and analytical essay of
your final project. Be sure to communicate any doubts or questions you may have to the
facilitator via Blackboard’s email.

D. Application Activities during the Workshop
1. Guided by the facilitator, students will engage in a whole class discussion in the form of a
round table review. Students will write down one important idea from the previous workshop
on a piece of paper. Afterward, students will pass the list to the next person until it ultimately
returns to the original owner, with a list of key takeaways (ideas) for future review and study.
2. In the form of a whole class discussion, students will identify and explain the components of
the academic areas of reading, writing, and mathematics, including the assistive technology
(AT) programs, devices, software, and other resources used to provide accommodations for
students in each area. During this discussion, students will participate actively, correctly apply
the core course terminology, and demonstrate his or her knowledge on the topic. The facilitator
will be available to clarify doubts, as needed. This activity will be evaluated; therefore, the
facilitator will remind students to place a graded copy in his or her digital portfolio.
3. Students will watch the video “WYNN 7 – New Research-based Writing Support”
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyFWcqrrcCI) related to the literacy program for
individuals with reading challenges and writing difficulties. In a round table format, and guided
by the facilitator, students will discuss how the WYNN program can be used to provide
accommodations to students in the areas of reading and writing. In addition, students will
discuss how teachers can use WYNN in their computers to ensure oral administration of a test
for students. The facilitator will provide feedback during this activity and will clarify doubts, as
needed.
4. The facilitator and students will explore the following computer programs used to enhance the
academic achievement of students in the classroom:

Students will have the opportunity to explore the different features of the programs and explain
how they could increase academic achievement in the classroom. The facilitator will provide
feedback during this activity.
5. The facilitator will ask students create a three-column chart on a piece of paper. In the first
column, students will write about their previous struggle(s) with mathematics when they were
younger. Then, students will provide information in the third column based on the following
question:
a. How do you think an instructional technology program could have helped you
with your struggle(s) in the area of mathematics?
After completing the first two columns with the requested information, students will watch the
video “Think Through Math Student Welcome”

5. El facilitador asignará a cada estudiante una pareja. Los alumnos utilizarán las láminas de
PECS que recopilaron como tarea antes de la clase para crear un tablero de comunicación
para un estudiante no verbal. El facilitador llegará preparado para esta actividad con los
siguientes materiales: carpeta pequeña, imágenes adicionales de PECS, papel adhesivo
(contact paper), tijeras y Velcro o imanes. Una vez los estudiantes terminen de crear su
tablero, lo exhibirán por el salón, de manera que los demás alumnos podrán examinar cada
una y brindar retroalimentación al trabajo de sus compañeros. El siguiente imagen será
utilizado como referencia para crear el tablero de comunicación:
6. Los estudiantes escribirán su autorreflexión acerca de cómo los equipos asistivos que

attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD]). Based on the information you have
researched, design an oral presentation to report your findings. Justify your answers based on
data and supporting evidence. Give at least five references, including the two class textbooks,

E. Application Activities during the Workshop
1. The facilitator will lead a whole class discussion about the effective assistive technology
devices and the importance of assessing this equipment in order to meet the student’s needs.
The facilitator will clarify doubt, as needed.
2. In random order, students will deliver their oral presentations to share their findings on the on
how effective assistive technology is depending the area of support (reading, writing, and
mathematics) and the disability (visually impaired, autism, learning disabilities (dyslexia and
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder [ADHD]). While other students are sharing their posture
on the topic, the listeners will formulate three questions or comments and will share them with
the rest of the class. This oral presentation will be evaluated; therefore, students will place a
graded copy of this activity the digital portfolio.
3. Using the definitions from the clustering diagram prepared before the workshop, students will
initiate a role-play activity pretending to be the AT assessment team. Each student will
represent one of the team members of the AT team and will explain to his or her partner what
the role of this person includes. The AT assessment team members are:

activity will form part of the students’ evaluation. Therefore, the facilitator will remind students
to place a copy of their graded self-reflection within the corresponding folder of their Digital
Performance Portfolio.

TALLER CINCO/WORKSHOP FIVE
NOTA: Este taller es bilingüe. Tanto el
facilitador como los estudiantes deberán
utilizar el idioma asignado para actividad
antes y durante el taller. No mezclen los dos

Both the facilitator and the students

a. Lea el capítulo ocho de Assistive technology for people with disabilities (Bryant & Bryant,
2012) y considere las formas en que la asistencia tecnológica puede ayudar a un individuo a

entradas de al menos dos compañeros de clase de manera que añadas detalles a su
contribución o proveas retroalimentación de manera crítica e analítica. Esta actividad será
evaluada; por lo tanto, incluya la evaluación de la misma en su portafolio digital.
d. Finalice los detalles del componente escrito del proyecto final acerca de la asistencia
tecnológica y la tecnología educativa utilizada en la sala de clases según el área (escritura,
lectura y matemáticas) asignado por el facilitador. Dicho ensayo deberá abarcar los
acomodos, programas y asistencias tecnológica que existen para impactar la materia
asignada y explicar la manera en que dicha asistencia puede mejorar las destrezas básicas.
Recuerde cumplir con todas las instrucciones estipuladas en la página 29 del módulo y
cualquier otra instrucción determinado por el facilitador. Envié su ensayo al facilitador vía
email por medio de la plataforma de Blackboard en o antes del Taller Cinco. Esta actividad

2. Activities in English
a. Use the Internet to research the topic of utensil grips or toothbrush grips. Afterward, find
materials you may need in order to create your own utensil or toothbrush grip. Record a
video of yourself creating the grip using the materials you have gathered. Make sure that
within your recording you have explained the materials used and the procedure. Upload
your video to the VoiceThread link created by the facilitator in the Course Menu in
Blackboard. Watch and listen to the presentation of at least two of your colleagues.
Comment on each of the videos you viewed with constructive yet specific feedback
regarding the grip, the materials used, or the procedure.

b. Think of a person that you might know with a visual impairment (totally blind) or a person
that uses a wheelchair to move from one place to another. Imagine how they would feel in
terms of accessibility and independence. Compose a paragraph describing how life is for
this person would be like and upload it to the Journals link created by the facilitator in the
Course Menu in Blackboard. Be prepared to further discuss this topic during the workshop.
c. Finalize the details of the individual or group audiovisual component of the final project.
Be sure to comply with all the requirements explained during Workshop One on page 30 of
the module. In addition, submit your audiovisual presentation to the facilitator prior to
Workshop Five. He or she will provide specific feedback regarding its content, as well as
grammatical aspects. This activity will be evaluated; therefore, include a graded copy in
your digital portfolio.
E. Actividades de aplicación durante el taller/Application Activities during the Workshop
1. Actividades en español
a. Los estudiantes discutirán los conceptos y la terminología asignados como tarea
antes del taller a través de un juego de cartas interactivo (memory) con conceptos
y definiciones o con un kahoot previamente creado por el facilitador.
b. Como parte de su autorreflexión escrita, los alumnos analizarán el siguiente
planteamiento:
i. ¿Qué impacto tendría en ti la pérdida de la tecnología a la que
estás acostumbrado lo cual te permite ser independiente?
Si el tiempo apremia, y el facilitador lo autoriza, los alumnos podrían enviar su
documento vía Blackboard al facilitador, antes de la medianoche del último día de
clases. Esta actividad será evaluada; por lo tanto, los alumnos incluirán una copia
corregida en su portafolio digital.

2. Activities in English
a. Gathered in small groups, students will share their thoughts on how a person
would feel in terms of accessibility and independence if he or she were visually
impaired (totally blind) or required a wheelchair to move from one place to
another. During this activity, students write on an anchor chart paper the lack of
independence areas of the individual with the disability. This anchor chart will be
displayed in the classroom, allowing other students to viewed and suggest
assistive technology devices that can be used to achieve independence. This
activity will be evaluated; therefore students will upload its evaluation to their
digital portfolio.
b. In random order, students will deliver their individual or group audiovisual
presentations. After each presentation has concluded, the facilitator and the rest of
the class will provide constructive feedback. This activity will form part of the
students’ evaluation. The facilitator will remind students to include a copy of their
graded audiovisual presentation within their digital portfolio.
c. After completing the activities for Workshop Five (both before and during the
workshop), the facilitator will inform students to access the Digital Performance

Portfolio folder and upload the following graded activities and rubrics that
correspond to Workshop Five, in English:
i. Anchor chart activity on how a would a person feel in terms of
