An object of beauty and desire revered for centuries, each one tells a unique story. Uncovered from deep within the earth or the bottom of the ocean, one tiny diamond can travel thousands of kilometres into the hands of master craftsmen to be transformed into a brand-new precious treasure. The Jean Boulle Group is one of the world’s most prolific diamond mining companies. Founder Jean-Raymond Boulle spent a decade at the DeBeers Diamond Trading Company before launching his own venture, first in the US then on a global scale. Since 1984, Boulle’s various companies have conducted mining and exploration operations for diamonds, precious metals and stones across South Africa, Namibia, Liberia, Madagascar, Zambia, Finland, Canada and Brazil. After decades of diamond mining, in 2016 the Jean Boulle Group launched a subsidiary company to take business to the next level. Since 2015, the Jean Boulle Group has pioneered seabed mining for diamonds off the coast of Namibia, a high-tech process which is low impact and as environmentally friendly as possible. Sun King ® Diamonds introduces an entirely new and unexpected use for the precious stones. The company uses high-quality, ethically sourced diamonds to create a unique paint coating for superyachts, luxury cars and jets. The process involves master craftsmen crushing and processing the diamonds into millions of microscopic crystals through a patented process. Then the diamonds are sent to the paint experts AkzoNobel, where they are mixed with Awlgrip Awlcraft 2000 topcoat for yachting use. The high-performance coating not only creates a dazzling effect when applied to surfaces, but is also eminently durable and practical. The coating, which was patented as Sun King ® Diamond Coating, was first used by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars on a Ghost Elegance, which debuted at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. After its success in the luxury car sector, the technology was then trialled with equal success in the yachting and aerospace markets. In summer 2018, Sun King ® Diamonds unveiled the world’s first diamond- coated multihull yacht: the 40 Open Sunreef Power. The company pushed the envelope even further by coating an entire Bombardier Global Express plane in the resplendent paint in a world-first in jet design. Each square foot of the jet was coated in around half a million diamond crystals. In that same year Sun King ® Diamonds ventured into the art world with North Bohemia-based Crystal Caviar, a company that works with renowned Czech artists. A beautiful sculpture called Venus by award- winning artist Vlastimil Beránek was coated with Sun King ® Diamond coating. The result was utterly breathtaking and was exhibited at the Monaco Yacht Show 2018 on board Oceanco’s 90m DAR superyacht.
