IMPORTANT SCHOOL

DATES

School Events

Over the last couple of weeks I have been privileged to see the talents of our students in various forms.

At recent assemblies the school band, the school choir and the woodwind ensemble have all performed, showcasing their talents for the school community. I am most impressed with the manner in which our school music program links with our instrumental music program and look forward to our musical performance extravaganza evening next term, of which the date will be determined soon. Congratulations to James Macaulay and Justin Forster on the great work they are doing.

In the senior school Great Space and Office foyer the art works of the extension art group are on display where the techniques taught through their lessons, combined with their individual flare have produced some amazing pieces. These were also presented at assembly and are well worth a visit to the Great Space and foyer. Congratulations to Katrina Weaver for inspiring her students to create such amazing pieces of work.

Recently, approximately 60 students from Years 3-6 represented our school at the District Athletics conducted at the Bill Sewart Athletics Track in East Burwood. The students all represented our school in fine spirit. Although I was not able to spend the whole day at the event, I did witness some outstanding individual performances. Yong J in 5C brought the boys 10 Year Old ‘A’ Relay team home in fine fashion and I believe he won several other events. No doubt Barwon House are happy to have Yong in their team. Although the weather was poor, the spirits of the Mount Waverley students were not dampened and they performed very well against the other very large schools from the eastern suburbs. A full report can be found later in the newsletter.

Congratulations to Cassie Kemp and Merryn Ashcroft for training the team so effectively.

Roald Dahl Day

It’s almost here, only 1 week to go

Tremendous things are in store for you!

MATHS IDEAS Learning to Count Learning to count is important. Counting 1, 2, 3, 4……. is the main way, but counting using pattern helps us to understand numbers:

2, 4, 6, 8….. 5, 10, 15, 20…… 100, 99, 98, 97……… 100, 90, 80 70……….. .5, 1, 1.5, 2………….

Nursery rhymes familiarise us with counting patterns., such ‘Five Little Ducks,’ ‘1,2,3,4,5 once I caught a fish alive,’ ‘10 green bottles’.
