Causes A spider bite is an injury caused by the
bite of a spider. When a spider bites it releases venom
into the victim, which can be life threatening.
The venom of a spider may have necrotic agents in it.
A necrotic spider bite may cause premature death of cells in the victim.
Causes(continued) Spider bites may also contain
neurotoxins which attack neurons and often severely damage them.
Neurotoxins may also interfere with neuron signaling, which can result in the sending of false signals.
Signs and SymptomsDepending on the species of spider,
symptoms of a bite can include: Pain. Dizziness. Fever. Nausea. Vomiting. Loss of consciousness. Inflammation around the wound. Two puncture marks at wound.
Treatment Clean the bite with soap and water. Cold packs may be applied to the bite to
reduce pain and inflammation. Keep bite elevated if possible. Take pain relievers if needed. Depending on the species of spider that
inflicted the bite, you may need to receive an antivenom.
Prevention Wear a long-sleeved shirt and gloves when
handling stored items or when cleaning sheds, garages, basements, etc.
Use insect repellents. Install tight-fitting screens or seals on
windows and doors to prevent spiders from entering the home.
Remove piles of rocks or lumbar from the vicinity of your house to lessen contact with spiders.
