INTRODUCTION Faculty of Physical Education and Sport is one of the 25 faculties within Spiru Haret

University, accredited by Act 443 on July 5, 2002. As a higher education institution, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport complies with the national tradition of the academic education in physical education and sport. Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at Spiru Haret University has constantly improved and, today, it is one of the academic private institutions in the field of Physical Education and Sport in our country. The educational offer that the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport provides for the youth, the strategy of their training at all levels, the study conditions, a quick insertion into the labor market of its alumni, all have represented an incentive for the young people willing to study at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport within Spiru Haret University.

MISSION OF THE FACULTY

Faculty of Physical Education and Sport within Spiru Haret University features the didactic and research mission and assumes the fundamental role in preparing specialists in the fields of Physical Education and Sport, in accordance with the requirements, present and future, at the bachelor degree in Physical Education and Sport and Kinetotherapy, formulated by the Romanian society in alignment with the already recognized European values. This mission targets the graduates of the high school studies who wish to prepare to become specialists in Physical Education and Sport and Kinetotherapy in a competitive academic environment. The didactic mission of preparing the specialists in Physical Education and Sport aims to both the professional training as a teacher of physical education by attending and graduating bachelor studies, coach for various sport branches, sport federation coach, kinetotherapist, teacher of medical physical culture and also to enrolling in master studies, for an onoging professional formation.

The mission of research of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport focuses on the issues of building skills for carrying out experimental research, case studies within the Center of Research of the Faculty and the two research student circles, closely supervised by the academia of our Faculty. The accomplishment of the mission of Faculty of Physical Education and Sport provides reaching the main objectives in the professional training, via undergraduate studies in Physical Education and Sport and Kinetotherapy. These objectives are as follows:

• Improvement of the curriculum content, in compliance with the social criteria and in the context of evolution in the Romanian higher education to integrate into the European context, according to the Bologna Process;

• Improvement of the didactic technology of teaching-learning-training via the betterment of the content of the didactic activities and advancement of the teaching-assessment methodology and integration of the students into the teaching and educational activities;

• Modernization and continuous development of the material resources required in the teaching process, in compliance with the requirements of the mission being assumed;

• The permanent improvement of the research activity of the academia and students and its orientation towards the fundamental issues in the fields of Physical education and sport and Kinetotherapy;

• Diversification of the content in the advanced studies so that they will fully match superior parameters, the students’s options and labor market requirements in terms of training specialists in the two fields.

At the end of the study cycle, the graduates should be able to:

• Master information in the cognitive, affective and psycho-motor fields; • Identify and implement objectives and competences specific to the stream; • Be familiar with the theoretical and practical background, directly operate with them

and apply them so as to match the objectives in sight; • Have a good orientation regarding the teaching/learning compared to acquiring

superior competences and implementing the knowledge and skills in new contexts; • Apply the framework objectives of a high degree of complexity and generality, as well

the reference objectives regarding the acquisition of competences and knowledge from one year of study to another;

• Know the research techniques and methods in the undergraduate field of study in Physical education and Sport and Kinetotherapy.

Faculty of Physical education and Sport conducts itself in conformity with the national legislation and the European principles in higher education.

CYCLE I – UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES The Faculty of Physical Education and Sport provides the following study programs:

A. Undergraduate level – full time studies

- Physical education and Sport - accredited according to GR nr. 87 published in the O.G. nr. 169/09.03.2011

- Kinetotherapy and special motor skills - accredited according to M.O. 5483 published in the O.G. nr. 697/1.10.2011

B. Undergraduate level – part time studies - Physical education and Sport - Temporary authorization in compliance with M.O.

5483 published in the O.M nr. 697/1.10.2011

ADMISSION

The admission examination consists in: A. Examination: physical skills track – pass/ fail B. General average at the baccalaureate exam - 100% in the final grade

Each candidate will fill in the appendix to the survey sheet with the data required for the National Academic Record Register, which is an integrant part of the current Methodology. The survey sheet will be signed by the interviewing teacher, which the admission board will examine, along with the admission file of the candidate, to be validated. The selection will be made in the decreasing order of the final baccalaureate grade.

Selection criteria when tied grades:

• The grade obtained at the written test in the Romanian language and literature at the baccalaureate exam.

ACADEMIC YEAR STRUCTURE The academic year is structured on two 14-week semesters, with

an average of 20 hours/week, with the second semester of 12 weeks. The two exam sessions, winter and summer, last for three weeks and the evaluation consists in colloquiums and ongoing assessments.

THE EDUCATION PROCESS The education process for the undergraduate studies takes place in compliance with

the curricula. The structure of the study programs provides the correspondence among the learning results, competences and skills acquired and required by particular professions on the labor market.

The curricula are devised and carried out in accordance with the normative

requirements established at the national and European levels, and the subjects in the curriculum are presented in a logical order where they focus on acquiring general and related competences, in a perfect match with the subjects provided in the master studies to follow this cycle.

The curricula include fundamental subjects, specialty subjects and complementary

subjects, in compliance with the major’s objectives, grouped into mandatory, elective and optional and practicum.

Thanks to the competences and abilities provided to the students, the curricula for the two fields prove to be compatible with the framework of qualifications in our country for the professions of sport teacher, coach, sport manager, kinetotherapist, teacher of physical culture as well as with the curricula subjects in the European Union space, in conformity with the Bologna Process standards, where the significance of the subjects is expressed in ECTS.

The study programs are credited with 30 points per semester and 180 credits for 3 years of studies.

BACHELOR DEGREE EXAMINATION

The bachelor degree examination completes the studies at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport and consists in two tests: exam for assessing the fundamental and specialty knowledge and defense of the final paper. The graduate will be awarded with the title of Licensed in Physical Education and Sport and Licensed in Kinetotherapy. The passing of the bachelor degree examination will mean another 10 credits. The registration at the bachelor degree examination is conditioned by a prior entering into possession of the certificate of linguistic competence.

CYCLE II – MASTER STUDIES

The Faculty of Physical Education and Sport provides the following master study programs:

Master – full time studies - Physical education and sport coaching – accredited in compliance with MO nr.

4630 published in the O.G nr. 595/23.08.2010 - Kinetotherapy in the motor disorders – accredited in compliance with MO nr. 4630

PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORT COACHING The master program of Physical Education and Sport coaching aims to provide the

general theoretical, methodological and operational frame with the purpose of understanding, extrrapolating and connecting the information so as to improve the creative thinking and innovation in the field of physical education and sport.

The development of the educational offer regarding the master study program in

Physical Education and Sport coaching aims to:

• Diversify the educational programs in this sector; • Identify the legal context that allows to develop the study program and the

requirements deriving from the current regulations; • Establish the program objectives, the must-haves of the future specialists regarding the

professional and social competences that they expect to have acquired upon graduation;

• Identify the results of the designed study program, expressed by the portfolio of the competences, skills, abilities that the future master graduates will acquire;

• Synthesis of the information concerning similar study programs identified at national and international levels.

THE PURPOSE of the program is to consolidate the specialty knowledge acquired

during the bachelor studies, major in Physical Education and Sport and to build advanced skills in the professional line of business.

The master studies provide the graduates with multiple opportunities of professional integration, via the interdisciplinary profile of the subjects in the curriculum and the teaching approach in line with the contemporary education, compatible with the educational requirements in the European Union.

Targeted professions:

• Sport teacher • Coach for all sport branches • Physical preparation coaches • Sport managers • Research assistant

Teaching route The organization of the master study program points to preparing the graduates of the

cycle I, Physical education and Sport, while promoting an interdisciplinary approach and providing a high quality training that will respond to the current requirements in the field.

The master studies provides a consolidation of the knowledge accumulated during the undergraduate cycle, the development of the research abilities and represent a mandatory stage for the PhD studies.

- Participation of the candidate in an interview, held at the faculty main office, where the admission board will evaluate: the motivation of the candidate’s option for this field, the professional, scientific and publicistic activity, the bibliography-related information as for the master specialty and its novelty, the candidate’s skills in research, communication abilities, synthetic thinking, fundamental knowledge in this

field of study. Admission will consider the decreasing order of the final averages for the 3 years of study. In case of tied grades, there will be coonsidered the bachelor deegree examination grade and the final averages of the 3 or 4 years of study. For the master studies in Physical education and Sport coaching, students will be admitted into the following sport branches: athletics, basketball, soccer, aerobic gymnastics, handball, swimming, tennis and volleyball. ACADEMIC YEAR STRUCTURE

THE KINETOTHERAPY PROGRAM IN THE MOTOR

DISORDERS The master study aims to provide the general theoretical, methodological and

operational frame with the purpose of understanding, extrrapolating and connecting the information so as to improve the creative thinking and innovation in the vast field of Kinetotherapy.

The development of the educational offer regarding this master program targets to:

• Diversify the educational programs in this sector; • Identify the legal context that allows to develop the study program and the

requirements deriving from the current regulations; • Establish the program objectives, the must-haves of the future specialists regarding the

professional and social competences that they expect to have acquired upon graduation;

• Identify the results of the designed study program, expressed by the portfolio of the competences, skills, abilities that the future master graduates will acquire;

• Synthesis of the information concerning similar study programs identified at national and international levels. This master program in Kinetotherapy in motor disorders has taken into account the

requests from the graduates of our faculty to advance their specialty studies, as considering that most of them are employed in the medical sector.

COMPLETION OF STUDIES

The two master study programs will be considered completed upon the presentation and

defense of the dissertation paper.

RESEARCH

In full conformity with the mission of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, the research activity represents a major objective and an essential component, meant to contribute to raising quality of the entire process of education.

The research activity takes place within the Research Center of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport and focuses on implementing a set of values promoted by Spiru Haret University as to :

- Professionalism in research ; - Performance in research, materialized in results, sport performance at national and

international levels, papers, ISI recognized publications/articles, active participation at sessions, national and international conventions.

The research findings of the academia are capitalized by their publication in journals in review, presentation during conventions in the country and abroad, as well as including them in the curriculum and course books.

The Faculty organizes and hosts, on an annual basis, round tables, conferences for academia, undergraduate and master students.

SPORT ACTIVITY AND VOLUNTEERING

The professional activity of our students successfully interrelates with their sport pursuit. The representative sport teams have taken the podium at all the national and international competitions they were part of. Our students have been and are included in the national teams, which participated in the world, European and university Championships.

We notice the remarkable performances of our students during the national and international athletics competitions, aerobic gymnastics, handball, volleyball, soccer, tennis.

VOLUNTEERING ACTIVITY

It is worthwile mentioning the participation of students in volunteering actions during sport event, national and international, such as : European Championship of Aerobic Gymnastics, Final of the UEFA Cup 2012, Championship of the School for special needs, the ‘Campioni speciali’ Sport Day in 2012.

The students carry out social and volunteering activities at the schools for special

needs, institutions for protecting children and adults, hospitals, etc.

MATERIAL RESOURCES

A new and modern building hosts the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, which develops its lectures, seminars, lab and practical works in best equipped classrooms, along with massage, kinetotherapy, gymnastics, judo rooms and computer labs. There is also a sport center with platforms with a soccer field, volleyball, basketball, handball, tennis courts, all fitted with suitable facilities.

Also, the Faculty owns a library featuring more than 2,600 titles in coursebooks, literature in review, monographies, specialty journals (over 9,000 volumes) and a modern reading hall equipped with computers required in the education process. The Faculty of Physical Education and Sport has a computer-based system that collects, processes and analyzes data and information required for the evaluation and provision of the institutional quality in terms of the study programs.

FACILITIES The students benefit from accommodation spaces in the university dormitories, canteen and a club.

For recreation, the students can use the space at the Sport Center of the România de Mâine, Foundation where they can play basketball, volleyball, tennis and soccer.

When it comes to checking their health condition, a medical office has been made available to the students, located at the University main office, 13 Ion Ghica Street. At the University, the students can also register and take tests to obtain certificates of linguistic competence (ECL, TOEFL), or enroll in courses for the X-PERT CMS online Designer (VHS) certificate. The Faculty of Physical Education and Sport is included in the Erasmus international student exchange program. The students here are very much involved in activities of volunteering in the field of education, sport and social services.
