Having never been able to work on the Engine we needed to setup a new powertrain department that could cater to the demands of tun- ing and setting up the new engine. We then went through the require- ments for qualifying for the German Event and from that we learned that we had to pass a rule book test in the fastest time and the top 70 teams would be selected from various tests. Having read this, emphasis was given to the rulebook. Each member was asked to read through it thor- oughly. Since we were working department wise, the rulebook was read by each depart- ment wise itself and that ensured easy distribution of work load as well as a more thorough knowledge as to what the rules permit in the vehicle. Multiple rule book tests were taken and members were made to improve in places where they lacked so that no hiccup was caused at the time of registration. Fast forward to 6th January. All the team members gather in the lab at 4pm since the reg- istration test for the early bird 10 slots was to begin at 4.30pm local time. Everyone ready with calculators, projector screens and paper/pen to do calculations. As the clock struck half past 4, everyone went on to overdrive going through all the questions and ensuing the right answer was selected. Aſter doing all the questions, we got to know that one question was answered wrongly. Now more tension. Everyone trying to figure out which they had done wrong. Aſter what seemed like eternity, our member Aditya jumped to the conclusion that he had figured out the question and on correcting it, our team was through. On checking our time, we realized we had done it in a quick 6mins 20second. Not only were we the first Indian team to qualify for the event, but we were the first Asian team to qualify for the event.
