Holiday Party

The Slow Spokes Annual Holiday Party was held on Saturday, January 5th and was enjoyed by all who attended. We would like to thank all who helped to make it a success.

A Special thanks to all of the following:

• To Rita Zupan-Wilhelm for, once again, doing a terrific job of organizing the event.

• To Rose Marie Jacobs for providing her condo clubhouse for the party.

• To Tom Miller for the highlights video of all of the great moments of 2012.

• To all those who helped set up and clean up.

• To anyone else who helped out that I don’t know about.

And finally, thanks to all those who attended and joined in our annual holiday celebration.

MILEAGE FOR 2012

The people above sent in their mileage for 2012. We have a few people who ride a lot of miles and keep very close track of it. We even have one person who likes to keep track to the nearest tenth of a mile. I guess every little bit counts.

So, congratulations to every-one who hit their goals for 2012. And now, it’s time to set new goals for 2013. Here’s hoping that everyone has a great biking season, and maybe next year, some more people will add their names to the list.

Pictured above is the design for the wicking t-shirt

for the 2013 Peach of a Ride.

Bob George sent the above picture from Arizona (where he is enjoying warm weather while we suffer through the cold winter). He sent the following info about the picture:

When we were hiking in the Arizona dessert yesterday we came upon a couple of ladies on mountain bikes. Instead of carrying their gear in panniers or a trailer they had a donkey. Something to consider for our next self contained bike trip.

So did the donkey run along after the bikes? How did this work?

February Book Club.

Meets at Evelyn’s house.

The book: A Walk in the Woods

Author. Bill Bryson

Date and time have not been determined.

February/March Recurring Events Thursday Evening Walks

DISTANCE: 5 miles DATE: Thursdays

PACE: 3 to 4 MPH TIME: 6:00 P.M.

TERRAIN: Flat

LEADER: Carolann Green (586) 206-7381 or (586) 872-6031

MEETING PLACE: St. Hubert Church located at the SW corner of Metropolitan Parkway and Prentiss Rd.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Walk into and around St. Clair Metropark.

No walk if it is raining.

McDonald’s coffee stop after the walk.

Think Spring! This past week has been really cold. The only Slow Spokes biking are the ones who are enjoying Florida or Arizona.

As we wait for Spring and warmer weather, watch for impromptu events which will be posted on the website and sent to members via email. It’s tough to get leaders to commit to events far in advance in the winter.

Bill Appleberry sent me this photo of Carol Ritchey and himself.

They rode from home to Armada for lunch at Papa’s in December.

From Carol’s house, it was 47 miles, and from Bill’s house it was 40 miles.

I would really be impressed if they had then turned around and biked another 40 or 47 miles to get back home.

But after a wonderful lunch at Papa’s, they decided to get sagged back home.

Marie met them for lunch and sagged them back home.

I can’t really say anything. In this one ride, they did more miles than I did in the entire month of December.
