Bringing together generations.
Imagine the basic character traits of successful people: perseverance, industry, social intelligence, self-discipline, gratitude, optimism, etc. When picturing these we think of the self-made like Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates or Barack Obama, who worked against the odds to achieve greatness.
It is true, successful people share many of the above listed traits and more. Yet, why do others with the same potential go unnoticed? What about those already on track to success who meet with obstacles and, lacking a support network, lose their drive, give up and settle for less?
This is where PISK and the YPCPA come in: we believe that together, through the power of community, we can achieve far more than we could ever achieve alone. To be successful in today’s society we need to learn from the regrets and successes of those that went before us. We
need to have a platform to share these stories, to pass them on, and to motivate each other as a group so no one falls by the wayside.
As the current Polish-Canadian young adult generation, we share parallel experiences of our past, similar anxieties about our present, and near identical hopes for our future. As we gradually propel ourselves forward beyond barriers that our parents' generation didn't get to, we are eager to teach and to learn as a group, thereby becoming more successful as a whole.

How do we do it and where?
At the Iskra University Bootcamp: June 1-2nd, 2013 at the University of Toronto.
Want to get involved? We warmly invite you to come and be part of our story.
A weekend-long learning experience.
Iskra is designed to get young Polonia active, motivated, and ready for university through early networking both with others in their age group as well as with prominent graduate students and young professionals already present in our Polish-Canadian community. By sponsoring this event, you will be giving to a wider audience than any scholarship can provide: you will be giving prospective university students the tools to succeed in their studies while taking an active role in Polonia.
The boot camp is set to propel Polish high school students who are seeking mentorship, leadership opportunities, and an early jump-start in their careers. It will be filled with learning, networking, and skill development workshops, games, and seminars, and will involve supervised overnight stay and events at prominent venues such as the Polish Consulate and the Polish Combatants’ Hall in Toronto.

Students with Polish ties— having an ancestral background or even just a genuine interest in “things Polish”—from across Canada are invited to apply, though this initiative will be particularly beneficial for senior high school students looking to start university in 2013-14. The Iskra University Bootcamp marks the first such event for pre-university Polonia here in Canada, and is an important step in the vibrant life of Polonia worldwide.
